For those of you that this was a make or break decision, may I ask why that was? Was it because DA2 did it that way? Was it because despite everything else the game has to offer, aesthetics and minor dialogue changes mean that much to you?

I know the phrasing is antagonistic, but I can't think of any other way to put, so I apologize if I offend.

You sound like a shrink.

But seriously...

That depends on what you like to play. A lot of people are content with headcanon at the expense of personality..

Personally, I'm a fan of playing a character with a personality. It just makes more sense... you're the star of the game, it's all about you and being able to pick how you respond and having a bit of depth to that, is my preference.

Oh boohoo. Remind me to say a prayer to your lack of imagination.

Oh.

Didn't realise we weren't allowed to have an opinion unless it adheres to all that is good and holy in DA:I.

They should have made another Hawke or Shepard.

I disagree, dragon age should not be about ONE central figure but several in the setting of dragon age since the series is about the stories within said age.

This.

I was so happy to finally be able to role play as a dwarf, again. I can do so much with Cadash than I could have with Hawke and Brosca.

Wasn't it? I seem to remember BW announcing that the game would have a human protagonist only to much later add race options.

That's correct.

I don't understand the second part of your response.

So you would be more of a fan of Hawke and Shepard than the Warden and Inquisitor, correct? Or do you enjoy the Warden's wider array of options enough to make up for the lack of voiced personality?

Also, I apologize for my manner of speaking. I don't intend to psychoanalyze, though I suppose my interest in psychology may have had an effect on my vocabulary.

Yup i prefer the wardens wider array of options since you can craft more characters just like DAI.

People can have an opinion just fine.

It's the way they phrase that opinion I take issue with.

"pandering to the hardcore headcanonners", as if that isn't a very douchebag sentiment.

Besides, I'm actually very critical of what Bioware did with DAI (racial options not being one of the things I'm critical of). What I do with DAI in my own mind is another matter.

Yes it was worth it. Especially to play as an Elf and a Dwarf. This becomes even more apparent, especially for the Elf, in the later stages of the plot.

I was never interested in roleplaying as a human for I am a human in real life and do not want to be one in fantasy. As for the Qunari, they do not really appeal to me as a race. Too big and bulky and clunky though I like their chemical expertise and the lore behind them.

I prefer to roleplay as short and/or lean peoples. Hence Elves and Dwarves.

:DHell yes. It makes character creation more fun. Besides I wanted to play a qunnari after I played the first game.

But i still think it was worth it, since humans are usually pretty boring to play as. I like a good underdog.

I do too but never felt like one in this game.

I don't think humans are boring but they always end up as nobles in Dragon Age (I personally don't like playing nobles that much).  I do wonder what other human backgrounds they had planned originally.

Well... my preferences are like this:

1. Hawke
2. Warden
3. Inquisitor

So yeah I love the idea of Hawke and Shepard...

The only complaint with the Warden was she is mute, but on the plus side you could respond in some awesome ways and it was just a matter of saying it in your head..

Where as the Inquisitor you're somewhat limited but on the plus side you could finally create your own character, from any given race, and hear them talk on screen. I guess it's about deciding what is preferable, silent PC with major personality, big character personality but three personality options (which can be trouble if you like to vary your responses.. because switching from goody-goody two shoes Hawke to I-want-to-kill-you-and-bathe-in-your-blood Hawke can be a little schizophrenic, but I was always sarcastic so it didn't bother me, just know it bothers others) and lastly a character you can design from scratch, hear them talk and use your imagination to fill in the lack of personality.

I meant a somewhat defined character like Hawke, not necessarily them hence the "another."

The first moment in the game had you in chains with the heads of the charty calling for your head....How does that not make feel like the underdog?

That has nothing to do with your race though.

For me it's because I find being forced to play human too boring. Not only do you already have to be human in most games, but in DA you have these other races that are so interesting to me. Being forced to be a human in DA2 was like being a hungry kid looking in the window of the candy store but can't have any of it. Also I identify much less with DA humans: the privileged, the default, the majority, the oppressors, the white bread. Plus their culture is too generic(and the varying human nations have little to differentiate them from each other outside of accents and codex entries) to pique my interest. :?

If DA:I had forced you into one race like in DA2 but that race was anything but human, I still would have bought it.

Honestly I think bioware should not do a human noble for the next game they should do a different origin for Human. Bioware please do avvar okay? Please?

Agree with that.

I would actually be more inclined to play as human if I could play as a commoner criminal or something.

Doesn't last long? Your still feeling the hate up to the winter place if you are Dalish or Qunari.
