I have been saying this all along.  The game that I actually bought is nothing like the game that Bioware's hype department sold to me, and that is one of the reasons I feel totally ripped off.

It's a clever game that they play, and advertising is now high tech.  You can be sold something that you don't want, need or like, with relative ease. They can dress up rabbit droppings and convince you it's worth remortgaging for.

What ever happened to trust, truth and exactly as described?

I dont think any of that footage was used in actual advertising. Prob. pre alpha.

Ask for a refund. Or file a consumer complaint. You're not without recourse if you feel this way. Whether others will agree you're justified is certainly up to them but you do have options.

That footage I believe was shown as pre-alpha footage, which basically means that some or none of it may end up in the final game, and if that was shown in September 2013, that was around the time that they decided to include multiple races as playable, which may of meant the cutting some if not most the features that were shown in that footage.

I don't think so.  The bombardment of trailers/ teasers right up to the release definitely gave me the wrong impression.

Hah, best part is that Inquisitor back then had hair on him lol he pretty much had this hair back then because you can clearly see hair under that helmet:

The pre-alpha label doesn't mean much. Even if we assume people know it means "subject to change" no one naturally assumes that to mean "so different in kind it's utterly unlike what I was shown".

Now, of course, the real question is whether it actually is so unlike what was advertised. The Crestwood stuff I don't think is all that impressive but it's a YMMV. However Bioware pushed content regard keeps until release, and we know that there's no real variance for keeps, no choice, no inetrstinf ways to siege them ...

That's not pre-alpha.

That wasn't made with the CC though. It was just a prototype.

Still take a good look at Inquisitor on this picture:

ojokbcshu6qwdmon5htw.jpg

Do you see damn medium long hair that looks pretty much like upper pic? Proof that Inquisitor actually had hair but in end BW replaced it with 7 shaved f***ing bald ones!

By the way what the hell happened to this armor? Where is it?

I am sure I viewed a clip showing of character generation that was extremely good, but again, nothing like the sorry thing we ended up with.

Pre-alpha builds of games aren't representative of the final product, and marketing material is designed to make the game look as amazing as possible.

In other breaking news, fire is hot.

Exactly, they are there to deceive you into buying something.  What you see is what you want only, and not what you get.

Welcome to the marketing style of every industry ever in the history of the Human race.

My advice is to not pre-order games so that you can see reviews before buying it.

Pre alpha is, has been and always will be a grab bag of "what we want to build assuming everything works out and nothing takes longer than it should and we get that bag of money from the sky we were hoping for".

You're being quite unreasonable. Not doing due diligence is not an excuse to feel upset.

If you were silly enough to *only watch this one pre-alpha demo* and not pay attention to the following year of demos, trailers, dev interviews and hands-on gameplay sessions, not to mention the actual press reviews of the game, then frankly you can only blame yourself for being disappointed.

A video more than a year out from launch should never be more persuasive than everything you see once the actual gameplay footage starts to come out.

Is it disappointing that more of this stuff wasn't in the game? Sure. But don't try to complain you were misled when you had dozens of opportunities to inform yourself about the actual, current state of the game before buying it.

I do in fact realize that I share the blame in as much that I trusted Bioware.  Fortunately we are able to learn from our mistakes.

What don't understand is why people stick around if they genuinely feel so ripped off/let down. If the game is without merit why are you here? This is a genuine question btw, not just me being salty.

Heh, I remember people complaining about those vids, saying how stupid it was for Cassandra to be able to knock down keep doors and such.

Anyways, I'm glad you learned your lesson, next time with any company, read the reviews and watch the gameplay vids before purchase. Honestly it's just like when DA:O came out and we got a thread complaining about the lack of Multiplayer in the game, something that hadn't been advertised, shown, or talked about since DA:O's first teaser YEARS before release.

I don't know that pre-alpha is necessarily meant to deceive (no doubt it is sometimes though), I think a lot of the time it's just that the devs were overly ambitious and it's what they want to do with the game. Things always get cut or changed as a game is developed. It's best to view pre-alpha footage as a statement of intent to drum up interest not something that represents the final product.

No, you've picked unreleased pre-alpha footage and made a whine about it.

Your post contains no logical content.

From the Hinterlands E3 demo onwards, it's been pretty clear what was going to be released.

As entertaining as your latest bitter thread/post is,

please don't expect very many people to treat it seriously.

I would not go so far as saying its false advertising, more like a joke without the punchline or humor.

I understand when it comes to games, things will get cut, things will get rearranged. But it sounds like Bioware showed us what was at PAX and then gave fans the gutted version of the game.

For me, DAI is a love/hate relationship and that has nothing to do with what the game was suppose to be. The fact is the game speaks for itself. Many areas in the game are barren, buggy and just play stupid when it comes to certain side-quests.

Its one thing to show people a quest to do and then decide later to remove it, but its a completely diffrent senerio when you rip out huge chunks of content with no response as to why.

Well I can guess as to why. They did not give themselves enough time. IMO this game should have came out later this year.

And Bioware can walk around holding their so-called award for Game of the Year, but it does not mean squat. Yeah, Bioware had some epic competition in that category.

A reward is not what keeps your company going, fans do. Years to come that reward will be collecting dust and mean no more then a paper weight.

The success of the Dragon Age series has gone to their head-much like Blizzard has done with Diablo and World of Warcrap.

I think Bioware needs to take a step back, breath and recollect. You don't see Bethesda pumping out Elder of the Scrolls games every three years.

Dragon Age Origins was successful because Bioware cared, they took their time. And now, well, they do a great acting routine.

Despite all this I will no doubt play DAI, simply because there are some elements I do like about the game. However I just wish it hooked me for months on end after release like DAO did. Sadly, I think in another week I'll be moved on to something else.

Such a damn shame.

I must admit I was looking forward to the idea of a Keep siege in DA:I. We had the notion of the Keep at Crestwood being under siege from the Red Templars in the Pre-alpha footage that looked awesome. I would really love if this was brought back in a future dlc. Have one of the three support keeps threatened by attack from a enemy, The remainder of the Red Templars or the Venatori for example. we take control of the keep for the duration of the dlc and have to build up it's defenses and forces to enable it to withstand the onslaught.
