What don't understand is why people stick around if they genuinely feel so ripped off/let down. If the game is without merit why are you here? This is a genuine question btw, not just me being salty.

Masochism.

Dragon Age Origins was successful because Bioware cared, they took their time.

and almost went broke but who cares about game developers' livelihoods when our entertainment is on the line right?

Pls...DAO was successful in the same vein as DAI being successful. People bought both and people liked both.

Some here being nostalgically delusional about some divergence in "game quality" always conveniently ignore that DAO was a bug-ridden, memory-leaking, crashing hot mess on ANY platform that took dozens of mods, patches, and DLC  to reach a decent state (memory leak still there though and that breaks immersion more than anything). Not to mention a UI and quest layout that is more like an MMO than anything in DAI.

Still I love the game because I took the time to enjoy it for what it was, not for what it could have been.

I don't get it either. There are boatloads of games that I brought and didn't like but I didn't hang around that games forums for months complaining that the game was this, that or the other.

I'm not saying that people don't have the right to be here complaining because they do. what I'm saying is I don't know why the would be here if they don't love the game.

Some people put an awful lot of time investment into a forum for a game they profess to hate, dislike or generally feel ripped off by.

I don't see how that one video clip of a single choice will have made a huge alteration to how the game plays out, for all we know it was the only place something like that was going to happen and never again in the game.  Making a huge guess on how the game will work based on a single dialogue prompt in a pre-alpha video seems like you were looking to be disappointed.

Yeah, no. Either you've never played an MMO, or you never played DAO. Or you could just be confused.

DAO had nothing in common with MMOs. DAI has hotbars that encourage button-mashing.

I received what I was expecting, and more. But I followed the Twitter thread closely, as well as reviews and vids, so knew that some changes were made. That said, I wish I could play with the crowd noise from the prior demos; would love to hear reactions of all the new Dragons when encountered finally.

Ask for a refund. Or file a consumer complaint. You're not without recourse if you feel this way. Whether others will agree you're justified is certainly up to them but you do have options.

You're absolutely right. However, I think that window passed already. I really do love Dragon Age and would love to see Inquisition see it's full potential on all platforms, but really, because I'm some sort of elitist, would love to have it run like a PC game for PC gamers (AS ADVERTISED) and not some console-port splooge.

Since when did official forums become secondary to Twitter, etc? In Inquisition's case, it has. I didn't know that. Furthermore, I could give a crap about what is posted except if there are major issues with PC performance. Do I need to upgrade my rig? Do I need to change out some drivers? That's what I'm concerned about. Not a half-baked console port to PC. I would've gladly waited six months for a polished port to PC and preordered it again. I wouldn't even post unless I had some technical issue. Look back at my posts fanboys. Look how things have progressed or in reality, regressed.

I have a question that I'll try not to make spoilery. Does anyone remember in the vids before the game came out that there was a scene of the Inquisitor being manhandled by what looked to be another Inquisitor? Their doppleganger, and they had glowing green eyes iirc. I just beat the game and I do not remember seeing that scene anywhere. Does it actually happen or did I somehow miss it? D: I really wanted to see that.

I don't know man. I'm out of touch with current times. I only saw one video, "PC Games for PC Gamers" and I didn't even sit through it. I had already purchased the game as a preorder because I was that confident it was going to be fine. You know that old saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Shame on me for doing it three more times.

Pre-alpha builds of games aren't representative of the final product, and marketing material is designed to make the game look as amazing as possible.

In other breaking news, fire is hot.

That pretty much sums it up.

I have been saying this all along.  The game that I actually bought is nothing like the game that Bioware's hype department sold to me, and that is one of the reasons I feel totally ripped off.

http://www.kotaku.co...-different-game

You where sold Hype and then you bought it. Its not illegal sense hype is itangible like Influence or propaganda. I think its pretty good till Witcher 3 atleast.

I would not go so far as saying its false advertising, more like a joke without the punchline or humor.

I understand when it comes to games, things will get cut, things will get rearranged. But it sounds like Bioware showed us what was at PAX and then gave fans the gutted version of the game.

For me, DAI is a love/hate relationship and that has nothing to do with what the game was suppose to be. The fact is the game speaks for itself. Many areas in the game are barren, buggy and just play stupid when it comes to certain side-quests.

Its one thing to show people a quest to do and then decide later to remove it, but its a completely diffrent senerio when you rip out huge chunks of content with no response as to why.

Well I can guess as to why. They did not give themselves enough time. IMO this game should have came out later this year.

And Bioware can walk around holding their so-called award for Game of the Year, but it does not mean squat. Yeah, Bioware had some epic competition in that category.

A reward is not what keeps your company going, fans do. Years to come that reward will be collecting dust and mean no more then a paper weight.

The success of the Dragon Age series has gone to their head-much like Blizzard has done with Diablo and World of Warcrap.

I think Bioware needs to take a step back, breath and recollect. You don't see Bethesda pumping out Elder of the Scrolls games every three years.

Dragon Age Origins was successful because Bioware cared, they took their time. And now, well, they do a great acting routine.

Despite all this I will no doubt play DAI, simply because there are some elements I do like about the game. However I just wish it hooked me for months on end after release like DAO did. Sadly, I think in another week I'll be moved on to something else.

Such a damn shame.

I gotta say it. YOU SUCK and so do all the other clones running around spilling epic heartbreak like they just figured out you die at the end of te game you wake up and play every day...literally you die and could die tmorrow or ..right...nnow....

Having played a number of MMOs over the last decade, I can say that none of the Dragon Age games have abilities set up in a manner that really reflects them.

Actually the posters at RPGCodex gave a whole list of MMO features in DAO in fact one of the reviewers stated:

Closing Statement

Dragon Age: Origins is a decent but highly-flawed game. Playing it will bring back some memories of Baldur's Gate II, but those memories will only make the game seem poorer by comparison. Mostly, playing it brings back memories of World of Warcraft, except it was less tedious. Since there are not that many RPGs released these days, you might as well give it a try. Then, go back to playing Pool of Radiance and dreaming of days of yore.

So there are reviewers who thought DAO brought up memories of WOW.

I happen to like DAO, but I also know that certain concepts found in MMOs are present in DAO.

there is a difference between buying a single game that you dont like and buying games that are part of a franchise and lore that you really love. Some of us have read all the books and played the games because we really DA lore, as it has been set up by the original dragon age. There are in total five novels , on top of numerous comics, films etc etc. Several novels were released even before DA 2. Excuse us for caring about something and getting a bit upset to see it go down the drain. The novels have been getting better with time, while the games are heading in the opposite direction. bw keeps mucking it up all the while paying lip service to "go back to the roots". I do not idolize DAO, its a very flawed game, but instead of building upon the foundation that was laid there, theyve been playing whackamole with the franchise. I dont understand why they dont take a couple of notes from the ME team and build upon what is there in the first place, make it better instead of experimenting with ridiculous and poorly thought out ideas, dragging the series from one end to the other, and never in a good direction mind you. DAI is an even bigger mess than DAO was though, both gameplay-wise and technically speaking. Logically i know why they are doing these things, but their execution and line of thinking is a bit naive based on what theyve said and what their design is supposed to reflect, trying to chase the skyrim crowd when their game mechanics and game engine do not support the very key features that made skyrim such a big hit in the first place.

I have all the books, comics, film and games. I enjoyed them all. I also know that the comics and film or games do not have to reflect each other. They can but it is not a necessity for me. Also for me DAI is a return to the roots of BG1 design, but YMMV.

except that in this case they very much do, for me. The masked empire serves as a direct prequel to DAI really and the canon lore is laid out in the novels. Btw i was explaining why people stick around to complain about things that they are attached to or have invested a lot of time in, not arguing that absolutely nobody who is invested in the franchise/lore actually likes the direction bw is heading in.
