Is it bad that Mall Cop was the first thing that came to mind?
When it comes to pre-alpha, its usually good practice to assume that any content is subject to change or removal at any time before the final product is released.
"Risk of Closure"
Wow, I've never seen that mode before. Is this a new thing?
I think so, I think it's a good thing as it focuses a 'difficult' thread on keeping civil and on topic.
Speaking of 'on topic', quickly back to the marketing grumbles...

First FBI on Facebook and now this... What is the world coming to?
I was not aware that the presentation had ever been shared with the public aside of a face to face demo audience and a couple of shaky phone camera recordings. So why should they announce cuts to content that was never announced?
I'll take that as a no then. It was shown at Pax Prime, the audience were not under an NDA, the devs knew the footage was widely circulated and that people would discuss it and write articles on it.
Yeah the Alpha footage was shown to us at Spillexpo in Norway, 2013 i believe. It had some promising features, but what you see in a demo like that is probably not gonna make it into the final product. Look at all they showed of Bioshock Infinite and it wasn't even in the game, which was very dissapointing, but it was still a good game.
What's the actual proposal here? Never show pre-alpha stuff to anyone? Release videos listing everything that was ever cut, even if they'd never promoted those features? It was shown at Pax Prime, the devs knew the footage was widely circulated.

So you want BioWare to retreat to what they were doing before starting to show the pre-alpha footage and not showing anything regarding the game? I remember a lot of complaints about how "BioWare was hiding Inquisition" before PAX.

From my point of view more transparency would be nice, explaining why the cuts were made. This also applies to a number of changes to mechanics that were made from previous games for the worse that the devs absolutely refuse to discuss at all.
Ok! Thank you! Alright... you know... it is close to that timetable I mentioned before. As far as preordering goes... I did it out of loyalty to Bioware. I want them to succeed and I did it because I'm eager (so damn eager) to play their franchises. I love their franchises. When a developer says EAware is not appropriate, I will stop using it immediately.
Just as an FYI, I have seen a dev or two in Twitter conversations say they are not particularly fond of the label. I'm not really comfortable going and screenshotting them necessarily, as they were a bit buried in conversations and not made as a general Tweet announcement. Plus, would require a lot of digging as I think I read them a few weeks ago.
I imagine it's disliked because BioWare is still BioWare, even under EA, and calling them EAWare is like stripping BioWare's identity away and saying it's nothing but a shell wearing an EA mask... or, at least, that is how I interpret the name. I usually only see it used in a very negative and pejorative way, something that I am sure the devs have picked up on and would feel, whether or not any of them actually make a public scene about it.
And I actually do happen to be friends with a few; that, in no way, puts me under any obligation to pester them about patch release dates, which I am sure are probably under NDA anyway. Asking for privileged information would be a breach of trust in my eyes, as I am a friend and not a "wannabe leak source".
My two cents. I know I provide zero evidence for any of these statements, so take it as you will. I'd like to think enough people here on BSN know me well enough by now to know I don't talk out of my bum.
From my point of view more transparency would be nice, explaining why the cuts were made.
Time constraints. It's not exactly a mystery. ![]()
You made there a fair point...
Btw: Where can I buy this game it looks awsome!
And by where I mean what company made it and if its downloadable lol
That is BioShock Infinite by Irrational Games. A very fun and excellent game, I'd recommend acquiring it.
Not sure about downloadable or whatnot, but I'm fairly certain it was PC, PS3, and XBox 360.

We didn't know that until after launch it should have been done before to ensure there were no false impressions. BW's record generally in the area of transparency is horrible, they've been heavily criticised for it with swtor and the community team on that game are only just starting to turn that around.

The more I think about this, the more likely I think it to be that if Bio did worry about this issue, they'd end up going to even less transparency and just not show stuff that early in the process. No way you want people talking about the stuff that's been cut from the game when you want them talking about the stuff that's in it.We didn't know that until after launch it should have been done before to ensure there were no false impressions. Is it practical to expect a game company to disclaim cuts and changes made from earlier versions? What developer does this?
First FBI on Facebook and now this... What is the world coming to?
Also, Axe body spray does not make girls flock to you.
Red Bull does not, in fact, give you wings.
Drinking beer will not make every girl around you immediately change into a bikini.
And geckos cannot actually talk.
I DEMAND JUSTICE FOR THESE ATROCITIES!

It's not only good practice, it's also common sense.

Bioware probably makes the mistake of assuming most of their customers have common sense.
Is it practical to expect a game company to disclaim cuts and changes made from earlier versions? What developer does this?
None, because it would be wildly impractical. And for practically all of their customers, completely unnecessary.
Using pre-alpha footage as a reason to buy a game is on you and you only. Stuff like that is always subject to change and not a true representation of the final product. I actually thought people understood this. There is always hype before a game.
Jeez if trailers (which this footage was not) were a true representation of the perfection I see in trailers I would be in trouble. ![]()
"During PAX, BioWare put an emphasis on environmental destruction: There's a section during combat where the player can spot archers on a rickety bridge, then take them out by smashing a ladder and knocking them all down. But, no, we didn't get any of that in the final game."
Huh? I think the person who has written this article never made it to the Griffon Wing Keep. You CAN destroy that wooden bridge with a two-handed weapon. It is in the final game. And it's not the only thing that you can actually destroy with a weapon or immolate spell.
Have they ever read this board?
