I like the way moving around the map costs fuel. However, the map is more confusing than ME1.

I'm gonna have to dedicate some journal pages to a galaxy custom map so I know where things are.

For now, I have been saving, searching for where I want to go, and then re-loading to get to my destination without so much fuel costs.

BY the way.  What's the penalty for running out of fuel.  You just jump to the nearest system with a fuel/probe ship?

I believe you lose a bit of minerals for each time you run out of fuel. It is generally possible to go to one system in each set and then back to the one with the fuel depot without running out of fuel. Also, any quests you discover will have indicators directing you to which set/system, so no worries about not knowing where to go.

I actually find the current system more immersive. Although the scanning and probing for minerals might be time consuming if done on all planets and all systems.

Of course, no one's forcing anyone to do them all.

Still quicker than all those crappy, super mountainous planets we had to run around on.

So true. After that scanning for minerals is practically fun.

i really like the map, I mostly like how the planets or anything for that matter displays what the objectives are; better than memorizing where to go in ME1

I like it, but I wish the Normandy moved faster.

I like it. And the scanning.. lol, I was following the players on live streaming playthroughs who would just spend HOURS just scanning over planets, then I realized that I could use the scanner like a trigger and it works SO much faster. Depleted 4 planets within 10 minutes :D

I like it but i wish you could just look around all the solar systems in the galaxy with out having to move your ship and jump through mass relays so you can plan your route with out wasting fuel

For planet scanning the best way I figured out to do. (( x360 user )) Is to get Miranda upgrade, use both sticks facing right, and keep tapping the left trigger until you see a spike.

You can just hold the left trigger down.

Scanning for minerals is weird. I've never known something to be so boring and addictive at the same time.

lol yes i know you can hold it down, but if you keep tapping it the planet moves faster. And your scanner should be all the way to the right pushing the planet.

I miss the adventures through the planets on the Mako. One of the things I was waiting for the most from Mass Effect 2 was the new Mako adventures. Instead it went "Crash" and "Boom" and no more exploration... I also think the probes and fuel are a completely waste of money and ideas. Maybe if it had a purpose, but it servces absolutely none expcept forcing monotonous trips back to the Fuel Depot.

Like a trigger?  I've only done a few and each has taken well over 30 minutes.  Extremely tedious.

Yea, please explain how you made it go "SO much faster"

Miranda's upgrade is hardly noticeable, and I've found two ways to scan.

1) Hold LT, press both thumbsticks to left or right, drop down a grid and a half or so, circle the planet, and repeat.

2) Same as above, but tap LT. Planet rotates faster when LT is not depressed, but seems likely to miss detection, especially of smaller spots.

Or maybe Joker should get off his lazy ass for once and scan the whole damn planet in one sweep like back in the good old days.

Anyone know how to zoom out when you're in your ship trying to locate other planets?

I find I'm too zoomed in, and with my 24" widescreen I would like to zoom out some. :)

Otherwise I have no issues.. Enjoying every min thus far! I got Grunt last night. :wizard:

I have a bad habit of overshooting the star system I want to go to... I really should install some breaks! As for the mineral search... I've probably spent half of my first day on ME2 scanning planets-and I like it, except... I'm having a hard time finding platinum and most upgrades require it. I really want to get the upgrade to my medical bay so I can get rid of these annoying scars. Yes, I'm vain!
