TO didn't bother replying to anything, I conclude this being a pure rant/flamebait.

Mass Effect doesn't need to offer the same degree of complexity as DA:O anyway. It functions fine as a cover shooter with powers. BioWare's moving in the right direction if they stick with that. There's no need for overly tactical systems

I can't agree. The series is poorer for being simpler. It didn't need to go that far into action game territory when this was a seasoned RPG developer at the helm. We could have had the best of both worlds. They abandoned open maps, most ammo effects, big levels, and regen ammo in favor of C.O.D ammo clips.

Why? Other genres incorporate features from RPGS, why can't RPG's do the same?

Grabbing features from other genres is a good idea. Some features will surely be bad but there will also be some features that when added will make so much better games

Mass Effect should've been ME3 gunplay (plus further refinements like blindfire) with inventory, open ended maps(made by a competent map designer), tangible choices and other such elements. That would've raised it above being Gears with spell casting ala ME2/3 with faux-choices and dialogue options.

Though frankly speaking, that's way above Bioware's skills as what we've seen in the actual product. Ultimately, it would've been better if they had simply hired some seasoned tps devs(like Epic did for Gears 1 by hiring dev(s) who worked on killswitch) and made it purely Gears in space with casting without the false pretense of choices, meaningless dialogue options and a sheploo with boobs option that takes up disc space and resources that could've better spent on additional maps, enemies, etc.

Indeed, it's actually unnecessarily limiting. This is the problem with designing with genre in mind, which is an arbitrary categorization. It puts creativity in a box instead of letting creativity run free with the only end goal of making a good game. Which is what matters.

I'd agree with that. It's why I cringe when I think about the ME1 inventory. It felt like Bioware tossed the entire thing together simply to meet some minimum "RPG" requirements, rather than inventory being organic to the experience.

Yeah, and I think a lot of people that complain about ME3's changing systems are stuck in that mindset of "This isn't RPG enough" regardless of whether or not the system brought anything meaningful to the table. While I'm not a fan of the "If it's broke, remove it" approach I understand the changes BioWare made to things like the inventory and skill progression.

I am an old school gamer... going on 25 years...

Why do Bioware keep 'Dumbing' down their own games? Seriously... I am curious...

I have been playing Bioware games since the company was a puppy.

I loved the first Mass Effect game and thought it was one of the pinnacles of RPG gaming.

I played the second and third games and in both they have the armour, weapons and skill tree 'Dumbed' to the level of a 5 year old.
Reduced to a fraction of their former glory.

I loved Dragon Age: Origins as much as I loved Mass Effect 1...

... but again, DAO 2 & 3 are a shadow ot the former incarnations.

Dumbed down to the level of a teenage console version.

WHY???

Your adult market has a lot more money than teenagers do... B)
