Yep, and that's why people making such a big deal about DA:I winning game of the year awards ticks me off.  It's like I have said a few times before:

Websites and publications gave DA:I game of the year weeks before it was released. These same websites and publications hyped the game up since it was announced. While making tons of ad ad revenue and paid incentives from EA. The game of the year awards mean nothing because EA out right paid for them. They are proof positive that gaming journalism is completely corrupt.

I'll remember that whenever The Witcher 3 wins an award and the fans are excited. 'cause completely corrupt journalism is completely corrupt, not selectively.

Yeah, that's not propaganda nor illegal. I understand feeling iffy about it, but this doesn't even qualify as shady quid pro quo. And it certainly won't stop big YT reviewers from criticizing the games they review, they did it aplenty with the game used as an example in the article.

Mind you, I do NOT approve of methods like that. But I thought there'd be more to it than......just this.

Its propaganda, but it isn't illegal. Never said it was that. But it certainly is shady, and it pays people to be misleading.

It isn't set in stone. You do have some sway over it, just not as much as your Inquisitor or Hawke. You've intrigued me though, what about his personality do you not like? He hates racism and bigotry of all kinds, he defends the powerless, hates political scheming and BS. Sticks up for the unprivileged. Has a dry sense of humour. He has many qualities that are often championed on the BSN, and yet so many say they dislike Geralt.

Not sure if I can explain it properly. Since you brought these characteristics though let's start with them: I'm  actually not big fan of Blackwall, I like that such character was written and think that he is well written, but  I always have this urge to steal a gag from Bull's bdsm kit and use it on Blackwall 99% of the time he opens his mouth and talks about moral values and how the Inquisitor should act and think. I'm fine with recruiting him and going through the game  with him, but playing as him? Perish the thought. (he is also kind of flat for protagonist but that's a  different matter) So these values are not entirely a factor in my liking or disliking a character

One thing that stand out for me with Geralt, aside from his Tarzan machismo and appeal that I personally find very unattractive in men, is that it seems to me that the writers are constantly try to remind me how cool and awesome he is, it's a bit annoying actually.

Another thing that I sort of find boring is that the Witcher's world is your typical gritty fantasy, you don't need to go all Disney, but really there are more than one way to skin this particular cat. The cynicism in Witcher make me a cynic toward it, if that makes sense.

DA:I had zero contest last year, though. The whole year was stuffed with mediocre titles, DA:I included.

I am sure you agree that a game that concists of 200 hours worth of empty fetch-quests, 10 hours of actual story, and gameplay so dumbed down you can beat the game while in a respirator, isnt GoTY.

Actually it isn't. EA has been caught handing people money to speak highly of their products. That is called propaganda. And you are defending it, by trying to just handwave it away.

Oh for God's sake.

You brought this up as some kind of proof that the fact that there was very little negativity on youtube, not just from the reviewers, but everybody. I said that that isn't proof of that all. It only shows that there will be paid positive opinions. That's it, and that's all.

What I think about the practise of paying people for favourable opinions is irrelevant here. The point is that you brought it up in an attempt to somehow prove that it is the reason why a lot of people like the game. And that is just rubbish, and you know it. Hence you come with yet another insinuation that I am payed by EA (how many times now? Gotta be at least 3 times), and that I am somehow defending their business practises. I am not. I am simply attacking your point, which is just rubbish.

But go on, make it about me again, or about EA, and not about the fact that there really isn't that much negativity towards DA:I outside of the BSN and Metacritic. Which was what got all this started.

Except that wasn't the DAI played. Sorry if it felt like that to you though. And whether or not it had contest is up for debate as well. Different strokes for different folks. Like I said, I will remember this whenever you lot squee about TW3 getting loads of awards this year. (If it even does)

Was there ever actually an example of a website that "gave DA:I game of the year weeks before it was released."

Or is this all just spreading FUD?

You don't half have a history of talking shite when it comes to the Witcher Persephone.

I'm still waiting for that as well. With evidence, if possible.

I've never really understood the complaints about getting rivalry points for turning down Anders' advances. I understand the gripe that you had to be a dick in order to do so, but not the the fact that you get rivalry points. Turning people down hurts their feelings whether it's harsh or as diplomatic as possible. It still knocks people's self esteem. Nobody likes being knocked back.

People were complaining about rivalry points? My problem with the whole thing was that I couldn't turn him down gently, if I remember correctly in the very first conversation you are locked in romance dialogue that you can't dodge, the only options you get is to either accept or coldly brush him off, which results in him blowing up in your face about how you were suppose to be the love of his life (even if you just barely spoke two words up that point).  This just spoiled the whole plot for me,  because from that moment on I knew that Anders was suppose to do something irreversibly stupid aka tragic and that this was an attempt to shoehorn me into tragic romance ™.

I have a history of having enjoyed that game way before the Enhanced Version of the first game put it on most people's radar. I don't worship it, no. But I like it enough to have TW3 preordered. Your point, person I do not know?

Try reading what I actually wrote. I added that link because I said youtube isn't really a reliable source for reviews. Never said it proved every youtuber out there were paid off. Not my fault if your emotions added more meaning to it than was stated. Second time I am pointing this out for you: Try to actually read what people say. Doing you a huge favor now and making it a third time. Try to actually read what people are saying.

You are handwaving the fact that EA has been caught paying off people to speak highly of their products. People, who, present themselves as neutral. You also handwave away every bug in the game. Attack people who don't like the game. Derail threads where people are actually making a lot of sense in their constructive criticism. And why shouldn't people bring up EA? EA published the game in question. Best not to keep a broad spectre on things? That is why others, and myself, joke about you being an EA emplyee. Alternatively you could be a person that opens his mouth wide, closes his eyes, and sucks hard on anything placed in between his lip.s without a hint of critical thought. A perfect customer for big companies, I am sure you agree.

This thread has gone pretty far off-topic and has become uncivil. We are done here.
