16 DLCs are going to be small details added to game that developers have been working after the game content was complete and they moved to bug-freeing the game. they are hairstyle sets, alternative looks (for NPCs like Yennefer) , contracts and armour sets which will stay free regardless of when you buy the game so aren't pre-order bonuses either.

And yet, when the game was pushed back, none of the free content was included or made available sooner after launch. The content is most likely already finished, but including it with the game at launch would benefit them in no way.

Not really, its a part of a price penetration strategy /social stratgy of sorts. The RPG market is hard enough to pentrate as it is, So how does a small polish company get a foothold in this market? By offering 'free dlc' which is for the most part 'unheard of' in the games market. i guarentee u that once they have solidified themselves more in the market, they will start charging for dlc.

Wrong.

When Witcher 2 came out, it had DRM. They noticed it didn't work well, so they removed it with a patch. They then gave out all addons and DLC for free as an apology.

Yes, they are making a statement here... but it's one that I like. I paid €10 extra for the Digital Deluxe version of DA:I and what did I get for that? Some items I can use for maybe half an hour before they become obsolete. A mount that I don't need. An ugly "dragon" throne. And 1/3 of the soundtrack. Yay.

Again, I paid 10 bucks for that.

CDPR is going to give more than that away for free and I bet their items will be actually useful.

I think they will keep the rhythm of DLC release. I don't think the point of releasing DLCs for free is to... release DLCs per se.

For TW2, new quests were released with patches (exemple). That was the case for 3 patches at least.

I expect every DLC will be released along some fixes.

That's good.

Those addons and DLC were pretty weak though IMHO. But to each their own.

Didn't you pick up the upgraded schematics for those items as the game progressed? The ones you start out with only last a few hours but you get higher stats versions schematics of them at least twice once you reach Skyhold. (In a chest in the Undercroft)

You were told what you were gonna get before you paid those ten bucks, got pictures too. So if you hate that stuff so much, why did you buy it?

Also, since then they've given us the Tavern Songs, free MP DLC...... TW2 free DLC were hairstyles, armor, a fluff quest that was meh.....I just wasn't that impressed. Much preferred the story DLC I got for ME3 (ESP. Leviathan and Citadel), DAII (Esp. Legacy) and I'm pretty sure we'll get fun story DLC for DAI too.

Before I leave this thread, I just wanna say one thing:

I'll get in on the CDPR adoration fest once the free DLC they can't shut up about have/surpass the quality of Citadel. Or Legacy. Or even Leliana's Song.

(FYI, their "Enhanced" patches aren't DLC)

What if they surpass the Feast Day DLC or the Darkspawn Chronicles?

Than they've reached adequacy. No real achievement in surpassing the sub-par

Then I'll be mildly amused.  (Still mad I paid for those) DAO's DLC went downhill fast after RTO & Warden's Keep.

Their "Enhanced patch" provides content on top of fixes. It's as much a "DLC" as the Extended Cut. It is downloadable, it has content.

It had two lengthy and meaningful quests with new characters and environments, Lilies and Viper and The Secrets of Loc Muinne (the later had the best dialog I've ever seen in a game). New cutscenes and dialogs.

Nope, they announced firm post-launch DLC schedule.

I didn't say otherwise. They always released their DLC in their patches before. They can release fixes in their scheduled DLC.

Just a guess, nothing set in stone. That's just how they worked before.

Also, since then they've given us the Tavern Songs, free MP DLC...... TW2 free DLC were hairstyles, armor, a fluff quest that was meh.....I just wasn't that impressed. You'll have to buy the tavern songs tomorrow.

TW2 free DLC had more than that:

- hairstyles

- armors and weapons

- a new difficulty setting

- 3 hours of quest (Troll trouble, "fluff" and the two quests I talked about earlier)

- new cutscenes and endings, transitions, dialogs

- mods support

- item storage (one month after the release of the game, we're still waiting for BioWare's)

- the Arena

- a new scenarized tutorial...

- they also released a new combat system (FCR2)

For free. Better have that than another Omega DLC.

For what it's worth:

  • DAO DLC: EIther removed from the base game (Warden's Keep) or almost entirely reused maps and old content (All the others).
  • "Free" DAI MP DLC: It isn't free, it's technically paid for by microtransactions. Meanwhile, people that paid for a single player game get kicked straight in the groin and told to shove off, because (at least some of us) have a poorly done game with a pitiful armor selection that will no doubt swell due to paid DLC. Despite the fact there's nothing that stops 90% of the armor models from being used by Qunari, Elves, or Dwarves other than Bioware being cutesy with it.

I'm hopeful that Cyberpunk 2077 has this feature.

To be fair the witcher story is based around a character , Dragon age is based around the world

The upgraded schematics were completely useless because I had better gear already. For example, the mage staff bought in Orlais was significantly better than the one I could craft.

My issue isn't how the stuff looks or that it's just weapons and armor... my issue is that you use it for half an hour tops. And -that- wasn't mentioned anywhere in the description.

I prefer story DLC, too. We shouldn't forget that those are rarely free though. Or did you get Lair of the Shadowbroker for free?

"Witcher 3 getting 16 free on-disc locked content DLCs and friendly bullshit PR from CDPR" confirmed.

I love the games CDPR make but their PR is sooo transparent. We see right through the bull**** behind that smile. "see, we give free DLC give us attention, look at how amazing we are!"

I like the nerve to classify an armor set, 2 appearance packs and a contract which I am assuming is a side quest type thing as 4 separate DLCs. Ballsy move but based on the slobbering love it is getting in this thread it obviously worked. Of course had Bioware done this the wailing and gnashing of teeth would be epic...and from the same aforementioned slobberers.

Not only those DLCs aren't free, but they aren't cheap either... No discount ever for DLCs (at least on PC). When they released the "ME trilogy pack", no DLC included.

It comes to the baffling point a 2/3 hours ME2, ME3, DAO, DA2 DLC costs as much or more than the game itself.

Mass Effect 3 costs 10€ today.

This is the price of LoSB; it's cheaper than Omega (12€ !) or Citadel (12€ !).

This nonsense is embarrassing.

The Enhanced Edition of TW1 has regular discounts and can cost 1,59€ (both on Steam and GoG, DRM-free).

The Enhanced Edition of TW2 has regular discounts and can cost 2,99€ (both on Steam and GoG, DRM-free).

(also, this is how EA/Origin cares: standard ME3 costs 10€. Deluxe costs 20€. But the upgrade from standard costs 5€. That's how they care about your money.)

ME2's actually the worst on consoles, because the DLC there is profile-locked. Someone else on the same machine can't use it.

Some of these dlcs are very small things like a new fancy sword or outfit or a quest. Having small free things is nice but hardly the standard that all companies should be following, they're a plenty of overpriced DLC (i'm looking at you sims 3) to be sure but there are also plenty of DLCs that are worth the price.

-D-

paying 10 bucks for some armor and an extra throne is bs. It should be free, especially with the lack of good armor choices in DAI.

I used them for hours on end, easily. I really liked them. *Shrugs*

I'd rather pay a few bucks & get something like Legacy, LOTSB, Leviathan or the queen of all DLC, Citadel than not pay and get......DLC like the free Witcher 2 DLC. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

And then there's that.

NVM that if you had romanced Ashley only to be forced into a relationship with Liara in the next game & it was explained in a CODEX in a patch...imagine the flaying BioWare would have received for that. CDPR did that with Triss & Shani. So....yeah, that's one of my major beefs with CDPR's "deep storytelling" where choices supposedly matter.

The main difference there is that CDPR's never claimed the import to be what Bioware's is. You get a few bonuses from game to game, but the plot has a canon route set they follow. It just branches in-game a lot.

And really, I almost prefer the latter.

And suddenly it has nothing to do with DLCs and their prices (or lack thereoff).

BioWare did a good job by not releasing a Day-1 DLC this time. I like the fact they haven't release any "weapons pack", not too much exclusives items or even DLC.
But patches are lackluster.

There's something wrong with Witcher 2 DRM?
They got rid of it one week after release (and there might be performance issues with DA:I because of Denuvo).

The game needs an item storage?
They added it in a patch one month after the release of the game (DA:I was released 3 months ago and there is no plan for an item storage afaik).

Of course they can make good story-based DLCs. My gripe with it is that BioWare manages to be fan-friendly but they forgot how to be customer-friendly (but I guess that's not entirely up to them).

DAO at least got the collected release, neither DA2, ME2, or ME3 ever have.

ME2's actually the worst on consoles, because the DLC there is profile-locked. Someone else on the same machine can't use it.

*facepalm*

And yet the "Ultimate Edition" of DA:O doesn't include pre-order exclusive items from the collector's edition.

The Ultimate Edition of DA:O is, for "reasons", not available in my country (on PC).

So you ignored better gear in favor of the bonus gear? And I mean vastly better. You are not one of the "gamers" who find today's games too difficult, are you?

I have absolutely no issue with paying for good DLC like the ones you mentioned (although I wouldn't rate Citadel that highly).

The free Witcher 2 DLC contains excellent armor (chest, pants, gloves) that's good for at least the first third of the game, not something you throw out after wearing it once like the DA:I equivalent.

I didn't even know you could import anything from game to game in that series.
