the part between 0:30 and 1:04 is just wow. does anyone here know an entirely instrumental song which sounds like this?
I can't think of a specific song, but something like Mogwai or Russian Circles might be up your alley. Or maybe Red Sparowes.

Old school. But some absolutely brilliant singing and insanely divine guitar playing, in a video that has only been seen 1,800 times in 5 years.
thx for the suggestions @JobacNoor, i´ll look for them on YT within the next days.

Aw yeah! Nile just released a new song and it's ****** killer!
Sounds like Nile alright. Now let's hope it's better than At the Gate of Sethu ![]()
Already a classic

At the Gate... wasn't bad really, but it was really technical with too much guitar wanking which Karl Sanders said it kind of threw people off a bit. He assured that the new album would be more along the lines of Annihilation of the Wicked with more focus on catchy guitar riffing.

As you might have noticed based on what I post here, there's barely anything that pleases me more than tastefully executed technicality, but that album feels like an exhausted formula, a rehash of everything from past albums, this time without any atmosphere or memorability though. Similar for Ithyphallic.
And since you mentioned wankery...
Nice, melancholic Scandinavian sound.
A lot of new metal albums are popping up this month. One I'm really anticipating is the new Hate Eternal album "Infernus." Erik Rutan is not only an awesome guitarist but a talented producer too. He's recorded, mixed, and produced not only his own bands' albums but several other metal bands as well (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Krisiun)
Read about this band in an article in Decibel magazine. I was intrigued and gave them a listen and they sound pretty good. Sort of a cross of Isis and Nine Inch Nails with a little bit of atmosphere. I think their debut album just came out. Anyone who's into industrial, post-rock, and wall of sound type of music, you might enjoy this.
p.s. Their singer is pretty cute too. Dat purple hair. ![]()

This is pretty great, might even buy the album

I put it in my Amazon Wishlist just so I don't forget! ![]()
(the song actually ends around 6:30)
I will for the life of me never figure out how this band hasn't caught on big time. It's basically Cult of Luna's (IMO) absolutely incredible guitar sounds and just general atmosphere (they actually quite literally share several members), but with more accessible (i.e. clean) vocals and more traditionally structured songs.
I dare you to not get goosebumps during the climax of this song.
Anyone remember this?
Well, turns out as I was searching for stuff that references it, I found this:
I love those crazy Vikings! ![]()

Heavy Montreal
Such a great live band. Saw them supporting Slayer in 2006.
More new Bodom! \o/
They can't stop us
They can try
For heavy metal we will die!!
Wow. This is a ****ing badass thread. Don't even know where to start with my metal recommendations. Here is some **** that me and my brother did back in the day:

And just off the top of my head, and because I haven't seen it referenced yet - here's a link to one of my many favorite Insomnium songs:
This has got to be the best ****ing thread on BSN. Thanks Vorcha. Bioware pls DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD!!!
Just thought of another one: Arch Enemy live @Tokyo is probably top 5 best live recorded performances of all time for me (not to mention that Angela Gassow [female lead vocal] puts most of the competition to shame).
And finally (for tonight), the song that started it all for me:

Hell yeah, I like the OP's style. Comes right out of the gate with some f***king SLAYER.
