So I have a theory and I'm curious as to what BSN thinks. Perhaps some of you know more about the RNG than I do.

I was under the impression that once you get a schematic- purchased or found it will not generate again at a vendor or otherwise.

Therefore- if you were to purchase all T3 schematics from a vendor- whether you wanted them or not. Would this then increase the chance you have of finding the schematics you wanted but weren't able to purchase? (since the ones you didn't want you mostly already own, there fore decreasing the number of available schematics to generate in chests like at Valeskas watch)

Or are the vendor schematics only available at vendors, and not already a part of the pool of schematics that generate in chests?

I'm going to test it a little for myself- and will update with what I find. But would still like to know what you think.

The vendor schematics can definitely be found in chests.

Here is what I *suspect* happens, but I haven't been able to test it yet:

1. Chest has a chance of generating a schematic

2. If a schematic is generated, check to see if the player already has it

3. If the player already has it, delete the schematic from the chest

This is just what I suspect based on its coding simplicity and my sense that schematics get less common when I have more and more of them.  For example, it seems like my first Cradle runs in each playthrough typically yield many schematics, but after lots of farming, it feels lucky to get more than 1 or 2.  This is what we would expect if the game simply deletes any schematics you already have.  (But I could just be imagining this.)

If this is how it works, then buying the vendor schematics wouldn't help your chances of getting a non-vendor schematic.

However, I'm sure there's a little more to it than this.  If it were that simple, we'd occasionally get empty chests, and you never see that.  So the real mechanism must be a bit more complicated.

Thanks for this. I was sort of concerned that that was what would happen- instead of getting the schematics you actually want you just have less a chance of finding a schematic.

At the same time depending on how you look at it: you may still have a better chance of snagging the one you need when they do show up. This RNG is sort of ruining my game at the moment. I just want to finish with decent looking armor and can't enjoy it because I'm pissed about not having the stupid thing.

I made a separate save so I don't blow all my money and am testing it now. If what you say is true I'll reload and probably forget schematics for good.

So I went to all the vendors and bought all possible schematics. I then went to Valeskas watch and ran through 6 chests a total of 16 times. I gained a total of 9 schematics. This equals out to about a 9.4% chance of finding a schematic after buying out vendors. (9 schematics / [16 runs x 6 chests]) I don't know what the odds are of finding a schematic prior to buying out vendors. (I'm also a level 23 so I had likely collected quite a few schematics before that).

However- I did find a couple of good schematics that I was looking for. So it may have decreased the time it took me to farm those in the long run (or it could be coincidence.

I also did a few runs of Sulevins Cradle. For me I had 19 chests (closed 1 out early in the game- there should be 20). I did 8 runs and collected a total of 21 schematics (a few of which I was looking for- lots of orange colored). This equals out to:

21 schematics / [19 chests x 8 runs] = 13.8% chance

(Though this is about half the number of runs as Valeskas watch it's far more chests- so at the very least it seems if you are going to farm Sulevins Cradle is the way to go.)

That actually seems like a pretty good ratio to me.  Thanks for sharing the numbers.
