Great game, but does anyone besides me miss Shale, The Mabari hound, and Sandal?

I'm not completely finish the game yet, but I'm disappointed we don't have certain characters and we will not be getting them as DLC. The game is very fun. I plan on playing through it 3 times but their are many missing things I was hoping for in the initial release or as DLC.

Sandal.. kinda, sorta. There's something going on with him that's really strange.

Shale, definitely.

Mabari Hound? NOT AT ALL. I'm very glad they didn't give us a useless mutt in this game.

I'll be honest- Hold on a second.

- I'll be honest... I was never fond as fond of Sandal as others were. I did not hate him, I just did not love him either. I just liked his character but not enough to miss him in Inquisition though I think it is odd he did not have a cameo at the Empress' court because of Bodahn's comment. I can understand him not appearing at Empress' party but encountering him in Morrigan's library or servant area could make sense.

Yeah i was stunned that i didn't find those 2 at Celene's court. I have a hard time believing that Bodahn Feddic and Sandal will appear in a Inquisition-related dlc; because what would be the point? Dragon Age 2 "specifically" stated that they had been invited to serve in Celene's court, and for whatever the hell reason - - - they are a no show at the castle. The decision behind this major storytelling would be fascinating to know, given the previous importance of this dwarven pair, but at this point it comes down to being little more than a WTF moment!

Sandal seemed to hint toward being a major part of this game, so it seemed! Sandal seemed like he was going to be prepped to be a powerful something.

They could have made the Mabari hounds more aggressive. I would have love to have had up to 3 of them as attack dogs.

I came expecting Sandal to be there.I left with disappointment

Seriously though, I do hope some of those faces show up in DLC. Mostly Sandal.

It is possible Sandal is slated for a DLC even if the plot has changed from what was originally hinted at in DA2, he'd simply appear for a different reason.

I miss Shale and the Mabari, but not Sandal.  To me, he's kind of worn out his welcome.  It was cute and curious to begin with but I don't think he would fit well in this narrative.

(to MiyuEmi) Overexposure to the jokes or overuse of his catchphrase?

The reason why Sandal (and by extension Bodahn) do not show at the ball is that they would get ripped to shreds by the other courtiers. Sandal can barely take care of himself (in day-to-day activities, I do remember that ogre and score fo darkspawn) let alone play the Game.

Not really, Shale, Sandal and, the Mabari can stay gone. I never took the DA2 mabari with me anyway. Sandal was a rune crafter, we have Dagna in that role now. Shale worked for DAO but, I don't see golems fitting DAI at all.

Now if taming the dragon got it to be a companion animal in place of the mabari, that would work. Zevran could make an appearance, Thrask as well with the Templars. Isabella either as a raider since even giving her to the  Arishock means she escaped. Avalene could visit Skyhold, as could Sebastian after you do the war table missions that mention them. But for me enough Shale, mabari and, Sandal.

(to Alfa Kilo) That is why I understood he was not present as Empress Celene would have no reason to have him at an Orlesian party of that importance especially giving his lack of understanding regarding social rules and manners.

After the news of the players being able to travel to Orlais for DAI; I assumed Sandal and Bohdan would have been in the game; considering how Bohdan mentions in DA2 that is where they were going.

Alas when the game came out and there was no Bohdan and Sandal, I was disappointed. Granted it was nice seeing Dagna again, but I would have preferred to have the father/son duo back for the third installment.

I went back and played DA2 and was over-joyed to see Bohdan and Sandal. Such a shame they were not in DAI.

For me I don't want every NPC to return in every game, it ruins what makes them special and just forcing them into the game because people would like to see them doesn't mean the character would be treated justly by the narrative.

HIs catchphrase and just that I generally don't think he fits DA:I.  Just my opinion but there are a few recurring characters that I'm generally tired of and I think they've worn out their welcome, but others like them so just my opinion!

Well, they can't have four elven gods in the game  ;)

Would've been nice to have atleast have a mabari dog in the Inquisitor's room. Shale...not so much. As for Sandal, it would've made alot of sense for him to be sent with the inquisitor since he was Celen's enchanter (kinda like how she sent Morrigan as thanks)

Given everything we know; it's highly probable that Sandal has a soul of a "god" with him. Whether it's elven or not who knows.

Isn't there a theory that says that Sandal houses the soul of the god June. I think I read it on Reddit and it was rather convincing. Not as much as the Andruil is Sera one but pretty well-thought out nontheless. Judging by the events in the Inquisition, I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him yet.

On topic:

I miss Flemeth. No really. I miss her already. Pls dont be gone forever.

I really enjoyed the cameos we got, especially through the War Table correspondence --I thought it was a good way of bringing us up to date with at least some of the characters.  And I can understand why they didn't want to name check every single NPC; there are too many of them, and it would have been really naff.

That said, If there'd been a War Table mission on the Orlais side where the optimal path gave you a super-powerful rune and a note saying "Enchantment!" I'd have been grinning from ear to ear for days.
