Great game, but does anyone besides me miss Shale, The Mabari hound, and Sandal?

I was surprised by Sandal and Bodahn's absence given that they explicitely said they would be heading for Orlais's court.

Shale's story was, unfortunately, done in the books. I wasn't expecting her presence, and besides Cole took over quite nicely for the ''odd, semi-human companion with bizarre morality'' thing Bioware has going on.

The Mabari was not required, but as a dog lover I do admit I missed him a bit. But I prefer that, if he came bck, it would be in the DA2 format of a summon. I wouldn't want a dog to take a full companion slot, it made you not use him unless you were on PC with the mod.

Really only Shale. I'm actually reading The Stolen Throne right now, and I'm amused at Wilhelm's unnamed statue, because I know exactly who it is lol

I liked Dog, but the mabari we'd end up getting wouldn't be him. Same with the dog from DA2 :P And I'm not overly attached to Sandal, definitely interested in what he is, how he does things... but my questions could be easily answered with a series of codex entries or a quest, or dialogue choices, or even a war table operation set. But I wouldn't mind seeing him, I guess. I'm just not as attached as other people are.

I definitely miss Shale. She had some of the best dialogue in Origins and was an interesting character to get to know.

And Sandal, he seemed like he was just becoming more interesting with that special dialogue in DA2 that made me more curious of his back-story. He seemed like one of those characters that would be in every Dragon Age game, because he is just that great.

I miss Shale and Zevran and the dog. I had a mod that let me have my 3 human companions and still always have dog with me. Oh, and I do miss Sandal too...I'd like him in all my games.

I miss Shale. We should have a protest march on Bioware Headquarters demanding that Shale comes back. I think Alistair(or Anora) should give a Mabari to the Herald for the Shadows over Denerem(sp)war map instead of a cheap medallion. Lets replace Dagna with Sandal, or at least have him with her.

I'd like to see Shale again, but I'm not expecting that more than any other companion cameo. I'd love to get another Mabari hound, as that is something I've always enjoyed. I am very happy that Sandal is not in DAI though, I thought he was kind of gimmicky.

Shale? Yep.

Dog? Would be nice to have one, and everyone had good banter with him.

Sandal? Nope, the joke played its course with him, he shows up in a war table mission which gives an idea of how relevant to the overall plot he is. I'd just as soon never see him again. Dagna was insanely better... an enchanter, you can TALK to? sweet. Sandal was just there to say 'enchantment' over and over... yeah, that's just extremely lame. He was only good in DA:O, in DA2 he was just there for fan service (complete with him showing up in the final battle with demons dead around him... ugh.) and in DA:I he had absolutely no place at all.

For me I don't want every NPC to return in every game, it ruins what makes them special and just forcing them into the game because people would like to see them doesn't mean the character would be treated justly by the narrative.

Yeah, but having recurring characters give the serie a feel of continuity. Especially with DAI ,based on the narrative, it would make sense. Also it enrich the world and makes it whole. :)

But there are some returning characters such as Cullen, Lelianna, Dagna, and others.  (I know I am probably going to get flamed for this) For me the biggest sin in Mass Effect 3 is how all the companions were handled too many of them were just inserted as cameos giving me the feeling of "here you go, your favorite character returned for 60 seconds".  I really don't want to have that feeling happen again, I rather have companions return that make sense to the story and at the same time get enough time in the game to feel like they are part of the story.

I still want Oghren back, watching this clip makes me miss him even more.

I'm still pissed off that Oghren never got any mentioned in DA2 and DAI. I don't care if his writing in Awakening was bad or he wasn't a key player like your warden, not hearing anything about him is a major insult seeing that he helped end the 5th blight. Oghren was a very important character in the world of DA. He helped stop the 5th blight and is also a grey warden. Plus a friend of the HoF. I don't understand why Bioware is completely ignoring his existence.

Mabari hound - hell yes!

Shale. Not so much.

Bodahn and Sandal not being where we were specifically told to expect them (Celene's court in Orlais) at the conclusion of DA2 is insulting!

Agreed that Bodahn and Sandal not being where we were specifically told to expect them (Celene's court in Orlais) at the conclusion of DA2 is insulting! How could the writers be that stupid to forget that? Do they think that we the players are that dumb to not noticed this?

I love Shale so, so much but sadly due to player choice she could be dead or still sitting in the field outside Honnleath so i wouldn't expect her to feature as much more than a cameo in any DLC/future game.

Do I miss having a Mabari? Don't be ridiculous!

I'm absolutely content with visiting the poor friendly Mabari in the Hissing Wastes EVERY DAMN DAY, just to see if he's still fine. (he is)

brb checking if he's still fine

edit: He still is.

I hardly remember Shale but I couldn't believe it when Bioware broke one of their own traditions by leaving out a Sandal/Bodahn cameo.

I actually miss none of these things. Shale was a fun enough character, but she wasn't exactly a character I felt would be worth a cameo. As for Sandal and Bodahn, Bodahn can get extremely wearisome with his super politeness, and well..Dagna >>>>> Sandal. I would have probably appreciated seeing them somewhere in Orlais, but I don't feel anything is truly lacking in their absence.

Miss Shale, but I was tired of Sandal within five minutes of meeting him. If I could have punted him off a cliff I would have. Hell I would have sacrificed him with the Chargers if I was allowed to.

I understand that some players may not have any particular affection for this pair of npc's, but given that they were the the franchise characters who pointed us towards Orlais at the conclusion of DA 2, not having them appear as expected was off putting. It's one thing to not include them for any number of reasons, but with the massive amount of war table missions that put you in contact with so many other previous characters who did not physically arrive in Inquisition; was it too much to also have at least one war table mission along the lines of "Where the Hell are Bodahn & Sandal?"

Miss my Rowan, the best Mabari anyone could ask for. :( And Sandal's enchantments, of course. Dagna is fine in her own weird way, but Sandal had a tranquility around him, that made him feel far more dangerous.

He would have destroyed the Venatori.

I miss some of the glorious characters from earlier games, but they had their time. They don't need to be forced into the narratives of later games. They should be reintroduced organically, if there is a place for them.

I'm guessing the Sandal haters don't realize Cole is somewhat just as so-called annoying as Sandal!

I'd love to know what Cole would say about Sandal. I like both those characters a lot.
