I mean player mechanic wise? The freedom to pick from a dozen different classes and level in any of them maybe even chosen to level in multiple classes, and the skills... which to level min maxing to your hearts content?
Will we ever have anything like NWN again?

The classless system is similar to this. It just adds total freedom./

Sure, the next time somebody creates a game based on the D&D 3.0/3.5/Pathfinder rule set. As a whole, however, the cRPG community seems to have quite moved on from D&D.

If you can find the Drakensang games online these days, they'd be applicable too. Different ruleset but it's also PnP based.

NWN fans are retard and reactionary living in the past. It's the age of Fully Action RPGs and revolutionized/transcended gameplay.

I was hoping this was going to be about great user content multiplayer and a toolset to create adventures.

Divinity: Original Sin came close IMO in matching the experience of NWN but wasn't as extensive.
The racial options, skills, customization, crafting and role-playing were just extensive in NWN. It's one of my favourite RPG's.
Pillars of Eternity looks like it has some of the same features though especially with all the racial options and backgrounds you can choose for your character which influence their statistics. Obsidian seriously better not screw it up, if all goes to plan, it'll be an instant classic.

Ah the 50 Shades of Grey of NWN mods.
I never understood that part of the NWN mod community with all those sex based mods and erotica story based ones. I found them cringe-worthy, I'd rather pursue a romance in Inquisition than try one of those mods again! (and I really hate romances in Bioware games)

I think we will. What I do doubt we will see anytime soon is an extensive toolset and DM client combination. That was what elevated NWN and NWN2 to another level in my experience.
Mechanics wise though, we will probably see something like that from Obsidian someday. They signed up to develop a Rise of the Runelords digital card game for Paizo awhile back. Both Paizo and Obsidian expressed interest in collaborating on other games in the future. Considering Pathfinder uses a modified D20 ruleset, a hypothetical future RPG could play like an evolution of NWN2. At least in terms of underlying combat mechanics and character creation options.

Me too. But hey - at least Harrbrained is trying with ShadowRun Returns and its Dev-level toolkit.I was hoping this was going to be about great user content multiplayer and a toolset to create adventures.
I'm still convinced there is a market for a game with a robust toolset that lets modern charge for their content (with the developer getting a small cut). CONVINCED.
Edit: ninja'd

Divinity original sin has the best isometric rpg combat I've played. Is there any isometric rpg that has better combat?
Pillars of Eternity, if you believe the hype.

DA:Inquisition reminds me of NWN 2. I don't know why...
Edit: Well, there is MY CASTLE. But there should be more than that...

Anything mod based brings porn/sex content. It is also often some of the most popular.
Sex sells, I guess.

In fairness that mod made good use of skill checks and had decent stealth play for a game as clunky to work the latter into as NWN was. It only started to fall apart late into part one when The Princess had enough levels under her belt to kill most enemies easily. ADWR was an all around ambitious effort. That said, yeah, it was totally a porn module.
Although quite a bit of that content was optional.
