 Ash- To seek + Aqun-  Balance = Ashaqun- "To seek Balance"

 

Taashath: Calm + Meraad- The tide = Taashath Meraad - "Calm the tide"

 

Tal- "True," + Shok- "War" or "struggle" = Tal-Shok -True War or struggle.

 

 Ash- To seek  +  Sataareth- "That which upholds" + Aqun-  Balance = Ash sataareth aqun - To seek that which upholds balance.

My favorite one to use is > Ebasit- A form of "to be + Arvaarad" - "one who holds back evil"= Ebasit Arvaarad- To be one who holds back evil.

I always had the impression that qunlat sounds a bit like hebrew... so I took a look on a map of Israel and choose names that could be qunari names. So my male qnaris are named Rehovot, Ashkelon and Mifrat. My female qunaris are named Tekoa and Yavneh. Well I was really desperate finding fitting names too.

 Pulling attention on "Saar: "Dangerous,"  + Asaaranda: - Thunderstorm = Saar Asaaranda- Dangerous Thunderstorm...

The compound-word method that Qunlat uses, thunderstorm would be two words. Like Saarebas means 'mage', but consists of 'dangeous thing'. Kinda like German in that regard (the German word for library is effectively just 'bookhouse'). Asaaranda may mean Thunderstorm, but is probably 'dangerous sky' or 'dangerous cloud' or something - you can see Saar in it already. So that would just make you dangerous dangerous sky (or cloud, or w/e).

Asaaranda is probably sufficient anyway.

 

Also, nice to see Herah means Time, I wondered about that. How'd you find out? Know what the default dude's name is perchance?

Wow, that's interesting. As a practicing Jew who chants the liturgy weekly I never put the two together. I don't hear it, but I haven't really thought about it either. Maybe if I listen to Qunlat with Hebrew in mind I'll pick up something. Interesting!

 

As for my Adaar, Mary Kirby wrote somewhere that Tal Vashoth are pretty free with their names, they name their kids whatever sounds "cool" (which I could find the source, alas) so I named mine Beatrix. I headcannoned that her parents named her after the Divine of the time, and totally intended everything that that implies.

Well maybe I got the wrong impression and hebrew and qunlat are not similar at all. I just know a few hebrew words and I rarely hear it spoken fluently (if then only in lectures). I think the word that gave me the idea was Ben-Hassrath.
