Sell equipment you don't need, sell excess crafting materials, sell valuables, kill enemies, loot chests, bags, etc...

The best tip I can give is don't spend money on equipment from vendors. Just buy the schematics and make your own weapons and armor. Except in the rarest of cases, what you make will be far better than the purple items sold by vendors.

That's advice I can agree with. Crafted gear almost always outperforms most buyable or even droppable gear. There's a few exceptions but INsaneyAC is pretty much spot on.

Another easy way to make money is to farm it. Even if you don't farm schematics, still leave one item in the loot chest and everytime you check those chects, just take the money (and if there's more than one item in there, as well, sell them). Especially tier 3 chests (Valeska, Cradle of Sulevin) give a nice amount of gold, usually 200-300 gold per chest. You get a nice nest egg pretty quickly that way.

There is a not so nice way that requires a bit patience but you can make some good gold with it... Go to the emerald graves where giants respawn and farm them. You have kill like 15 of them or even more and they also drop loot you can sell for decent gold. Farm them until your inventory is full, go to the merchant to sell what they've dropped and return. Also, it would be ideal for you to be around level 15. You'll also make good xp there.

Abuse the tombe near the camp in the Hissing Wastes; take the ring and the money, leave the rest. Leave the area, come back, repeat.
1200-1300 gold per time.

Best way to make money is to not spend it like a madman buying absolutely everything althought you don't need it.

I did just fine until lvl 19 buying only a few select schematics, decors (Qunari only) and a single bed in Val Royeaux. The rest went towards influence (I reached Inquisition lvl 13 before quitting).

Money is in fact useless in this game.

What can you buy? The merchants doesn't sell anything you can use. If they have good stuff it's ALWAYS when you don't need it anymore.

The onlything worth buying is herbs and a few rings and amulets in the beginning of the game. A bit later you can buy schematics. Everything else is found by exploring.
Craft your items your self. They are way better than the junk the merchant sells. The chematics you find are more or less also better than the ones for sale.

Well, there is one helmet worth buying for a warrior: "Helm of the Drasca". The merchant stand in The Hissing Wastes has it.

Use you time on farming schematics and crafting materials (as boring at it can be to be degraded from role player to herb collector).
