Hey guys sorry if this is against forum rules but thought I'd plug my current play through of Neverwinter Nights II.  I never actually played the first one, when it was released it didn't ever run great on my system.  I have heard great things about Mask of the Betrayer so I thought I'd start a game of it.

This game has made me hate Dragon Age Inquisition so much more.  Every single side quest in NWN II has been thoughtful and interesting.  Slightly ashamed I never played this before, as I'm a massive BG2 fan boy.

Oh well here's a link to my play through if ya bored enough! For the love of dick don't post spoilers.

What's exactly a "blind run"? As in a first playthrough, not knowing anything about the game?

I'm a bit surprised at your camera mode choice, as Exploration is often considered the best one, and the others the source of complaints about how horrible the camera is (in my experience, usually by people who haven't tried Exploration, but I digress). Just saying in case you haven't tried the other modes; if you just prefer Strategy mode, all power to you.

Agreed about DAI. Those pointles, MMO-style "run around and get me X number of Y, repeat ad nauseam" quests get old pretty quickly.

Yes my first playthrough.  Didn't have the PC power when NWN 2 came out.  Heard decent things about Mask of the Betrayer but didn't want to go straight into that without specific context first as I hear it leads straight from the NWN 2 narrative/plot.

I've been playing tactical camera pretty much strictly,I got my head around it at least to the point I can manage the game play.

I do know some about the game as I'm big on the Baldurs Gate/Ice Wind Dale.  But the story, the 3.5 DND ruleset, new to all of that.

Agreed about DAI - I was perusing the spell books, I think there's more spells in the level 2 priest book than there is in DA:I altogether.

I'm also the master inquisitor in charge of my own keep and have hundreds at my command.  But I still end up having to do menial tasks? Couldn't I just delegate one of my many droogs to gather this **** for me?!

Hey, good luck with your play through. I hope you enjoy it enough to also play the esteemed Mask of the Betrayer.

Even if you happen to burn out on the NWN 2 OC (Act 1 is very...very...long), I recommend you still play through MotB. In fact, if you ever get sick of the OC, just start playing MotB instead - it's fairly standalone, and is the best NWN game to date (including whatever Bioware churned out for the NWN 1 series). It's dark and thematically tight with a much more coherent narrative than the OC, and much shorter, as well.

(If you liked Planescape: Torment, you will probably like MotB.)

As it was in my case. Like BG and BG 2 but never liked liked planescape, never grabbed me.

The best nwn game for me remains Hordes of the Underdark expansion. So epic.

heck no.

Let me tell you a tale of when there used to be moderators in the NwN2 section...

Also Mr.Black, if you liked NwN2, you would LOVE the expansion Mask of the Betrayer.
I'll simply tell you that NwN2 has been called rushed and generic fantasy campaign.
Not entirely inaccurate but MotB and Mysteries of Westgate get REALLY creative.

I think NW2 is the best video game of all time. I'm about to jump over to Mask from the OC and I'm SO FRICKIN EXCITED. I'm trying to finish the OC to get a narrative continuity, but if it takes so long--as indicated above--I'll just go over when I get to level 18.

I played through the OC fairly recently, and it didn't take that long at all. Certainly not as long as it takes to play more recent games. It's not shy in throwing XP at you, so you tend to fly through the class levels. Before you know it your country bumpkin swamp noob has become a worldly powerhouse of destruction.

It makes you wonder why there aren't many other epic-level adventurers running about if it only takes a matter of days to reach such levels. Long-lived races like elves or dwarves should be god-like after a century or two. :)

True! That's a good point: PS:T haters will probably hate MotB too (though...at least the graphics in MotB are prettier? Heh.)

I must respectfully disagree. HotU is the best in the NWN 1 franchise (at least, for official expansions - I have to say, my absolute favourite NWN 1 mod is still the Almraiven series by Fester Pots), but MotB blows it out of the water as far as I'm concerned - though this is probably because I really like having a well-told story in my RPG.

The thing about HotU is that the first act is really, really hard for me to get through, because it's basically a dungeon crawler that's one act long; honestly, I would just play IWD I/II or heck, even Torchlight/Diablo if I wanted dungeon crawling and crazy stacks of loot. They do it better. And the second act...well, I liked the attack on Lith Myathar (sp?). But that entire act is basically going from Point A to Point B to Point C to pick up allies, a very simple way to fill up a game (which Bioware disappointingly rehashes in DA:O), and it really only gets GOOD in act 3, which is the last act. This is...waaaay too long to get going, in my opinion. Though I will acknowledge that they incorporated the Relic of the Reaper in a pretty clever way in that last act. I remember liking that the first time I played.

But yeah, the only NPC I actually liked in NWN 1 was Deekin. I was pretty neutral about Valen and Nathyrra.

But hey, YMMV.
