I did not like the conversation options for the inquisitor. A lot of it was misleading and the "clever" options were not very clever. I miss the humorous dialogue like in DA2. DA2 dialogue gave me plenty chuckle. DAI dialogue was misleading many times and options weren't great. Many times I didn't want to choose any of the options.

I would also like to say that I thought the voice over for DA2 was by far more superior than DAI (female). Maybe this ruined the dialogue for me? or made it worse? The diplomatic voice came off more sensitive and mushy, and clever options came off real cheesy. Aggressive options came off forced.

The dialogue and voice actors for the other characters are great.....why couldn't the inquisitor be better? Kinda ruined many parts of the game for me.

Really? I thought Alix Regan did a commendable job. Was it mostly the script or the delivery of the lines you didn't care for?

I guess I didn't care for both.

I guess she did fine with the diplomatic options. I was choosing more clever ones. In my opinion her delivery there wasn't very good. The script for those options wasn't humorous like I expected either.

Sorry, just to clarify, are we speaking of the British voice actress (Regan) or the American one (Montano)? I've only ever gone with the British one.

Ah, well. Perhaps my opinion is colored by the fact that she's smoking hot irl, lol.

Yeah I have to agree, her voice when it came to the humorous/clever options just weren't doing it for me as much as it did for Hawke. I was kind of disappointed by it but It didn't really take anything from my enjoyment of the game.

The British voice is actually my favourite of the voiced female PCs (I'm not including male, as I haven't heard enough of most of them to judge).

She took a bit of getting used too, she sounds a lot more emotional than others like Shepard, but once I accepted that, I really liked her.

I agree that some dialog choices were not obvious and some simply a confounding "wtf?"  I put all this in the insufficient time in the schedule to review properly pile along with so many other incomplete issues.

The humour was toned down compared to sarcastic Hawke

I actually thought that FemHawke's tone of voice was unbearable quite a lot of the time. Montano isn't that great, but kind of fits my qunari Inquisitor. Regan is really awkward for me because she'll always be Specialist Traynor.

As for dialogue options, this is the first Bioware game where I've had the problem that people often mention of the dialogue wheel paraphrases not matching up with the actual lines. For instance, Solas says maybe you should ask Sera about something, you can respond saying "I'm asking you, not Sera" or something. Which sounded thoughtful to me, but came out with the Inquisitor being a total dick instead.

I don't think any of the VAs are particularly exciting. I found them all really really bland compared with the characters around them. I want to say that this was done on purpose, to make the Inquisitor more generic to allow players to more easily project themselves onto him/her?

However I really think this had the opposite effect. If I'm picking an "emotional" option, I want my Inquisitor to sound emotional. Otherwise what is the point of the fist/tears/thumbs up type of dialog icons.

I think overall the male British was the best in this regard. British female had her moments for me (that last scene with Solas... omg). American Female was pretty much a plank of robotic wood, which I came to love in the end. ("Cul.len. I. Love. Y.ou. 0001. 00111 11100.") Still not sure how I feel about the American male.

I shaes your take on the voices. I'd say the American male just is generally pretty mundane but does dry wit very well. His take on "I'm from North Wherever" is the best of the four I find.

I thought all the voices featured flat delivery, but none so flat as American.

I miss DA2 inflection. I miss the "diplomat, smartass, hardass" options - that really affected delivery.

I loved male Hawke and I loved male Shepard, but I did not really enjoy the male Inquisitor. While the voice acting was pretty solid, I felt the Inquisitor in general was kinda bland. In DAO you could picture the personality of your character in your head, in DA2 Hawke had 3 different very well written and acted personalities, but here?

I wouldn't say it was much of a fault of the actors. I am only familiar with the british ones though. And yes, Alix is hot as hell, although it doesn't have to do with anything, but I agree with you Fade-Touched :D I would more likely blame the writers for making the Inquisitor uninteresting and uncompelling character.

I agree on the actors part. They have nice sounding voices, but too many lines seemed like they didn't understand the emotion of the scene. That's the sound directors fault.
I still cringe each time I hit Haven, confront Cory and declare "We will never surrender!" (Note exclamation point) and the line comes out something to the effect of "nanah nanah boo boo..."

Yeah, sound directors could be at blame as well, forgot about them. And what is kinda funny, I didn't like the american Inquisitor at all, but I absolutely loved the actor's portrayal of Zevran in DAO and DA2. Which is one of the reasons I mainly blame the writers. It seems to me that almost every party npc had better writing behind them than the Inquisitor. Maybe it is because of the story in general I didn't quite felt connected to the character (unlike in all other BW games) and consider him bland.

I'm not fan of the way dialogue was handled in DA2, the intonation was too extreme and monotonously similar for each option, thing is DAI has a similar problem in places. Plus, I often get the impression that the lines are spoken while my character is not aware of the context of the conversation, which is not fault of the voice actors, but probably the result of the way these lines were recorded.

Also, the facial animation does not help believability at all.
