There is usually a clash between side activities and the main plot in an RPG.

The complaints may have been fewer if the side content in this game had been of better quality. Collecting ten bear asses and gathering shards isn't exactly the height of RPG design. It's jarring when the PC, supposedly a leader of men, is out dicking around with trivial grunt work.

Shards? What are those? :P

I've never collected more than 30 to be honest.

But in all seriousness, this is something that's basically in every RPG where you're an important person. Lets take ME again:

ME1: Super bad ass Spectre --> have to buy your own weapons
ME2: An organisation has just spent BILLIONS on reconstructing you --> Gotta collect your own minerals
ME3: The most important asset in a war against hyper advanced machines out to destroy everybody --> explore galaxy, buy your own weapons.

This is nothing new.
Not saying it couldn't have been done better btw, but if such things are really so annoying to you, I wonder you still play these kind of games.

That would be pretty stupid: if a game is filled with content, yet not intended to be completed. I mean, that's what "completionist" means, isn't it?

Wait a second. What does "completed" mean in this context? Winning the game? Playing every single possible bit of content in one run? I assumed it was something close to the latter, which is the most common usage. And yes, I don't think that it's very interesting to play through every bit of content in, say, a TES game. I'd rather be shot in the face than be forced to clear every dungeon in Skyrim.

And you put completionism on the table when you called yourself a completionist, no?

To reiterate: it's not that there's too many quests, or that I think side-quests as a whole are trivial. But they should fit the scope of the game. A leader of an organization as ambitious as the Inquisition is not the type of person that runs errands, it's simply not in his/her job description so to speak. If the game still is chockfull with such quests and the only way to enjoy those is to RP that your Inquisitor is a specific kind that loves doing all the little things for various reasons, then I will say that quest designs have missed their mark.

It doesn't bother me that there are a lot of these that I won't do on any given run. I like that on the merits, actually; the world should have a lot of stuff like that in it. It does raise an ROI issue, but the I is very small with such quests anyway.

Hardly.

Some DAI companions are completely uninteresting (Blackwall, Solas), some are pretty one-dimensional (Sera) and the story is almost nonexistent among the unending swaths of fetchquests.

It was so bloody boring I can't even be motivated to finish my first playthrough ... and I have played every single other BioWare game dozens of times over. DAI does NOT have a good story. It has a story, but it's neither captivating, nor deep, at least the part I got to play, don't know about the rest, but that I can't be arsed to play the game to its end in itself is a big argument against it.

yes, i can understand people enjoying the game and liking the direction the franchise is heading in, but suggesting it has "deep story content", say what? it has like 10 hours of story content, the rest is fetch quests that have nothing to do with the story. The main quest is even shorter than many of their recent games, but is inflated by the power reqs and fetch quests. Many of the story quests are short too, and some only serve as an introduction to another quest. Still its nice for people who loved it, but the "depth" of DAI is heavily up for debate, imo. I too found myself incredibly bored during many parts, which is a first for me in a bw game, even swtor class quests were more fun than this, but then that game didnt have annoying mechanics bogging it down.

How do you get at 10 hours?

Whicked Eyes and Whicked Hearts alone last like 3 hours, unless you talk to no one and skip every cutscene and unavoidable dialogue.

Can anyone, ANYONE, tell me what the flamin' hell DICE stands for? From context it may be something to do with developers... I just knows that the overall GoTY was Shadow of Mordor, and Inq got a developer's choice at DICE.

I can't find what DICE stands for, including at the award page of DICE itself.

Huh, ok I guess. DA:I was a good game but was a train wreck of bugs and promises that were bullshit on release, plus multiplay. was a Fail(compeered to ME3) on PC. Main Story is forgettable. But there is a lot that they did good and I wish they improve on what they have now, to make even better games. I will not preorder any more releases from Bioware, not after DA:I bug fest at launch BUT I'm interested in next title if they can improve on the formula(F%#K fetch MMO quests).

I'm pretty sure my run through Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts lasted only around one and a half hours, with most of that time attributed to walking around aimlessly because I didn't know my way around, plus searching for all the coins (plus trying to get to that one Halla statue in the kitchen, that was an excercise in patience ...).

That kitchen statue was a good challenge.

  • Tricky 'Tomb Raider' puzzle.
  • Ticking clock...

This is something I would vehemently disagree with. The challenge with that statue was that the controls of your character are so imprecise that I fell of the beams a couple times until I finally got to it. Finding the points where you can climb up to the beams took me about four seconds just looking around.

I think it's way too soon to be talking about future Dragon Age games. At this moment I'm much more interested in what sort of DLC/expansions we'll be getting for Inquisition.

I've also become more interested in the next Mass Effect game after enjoying DA:I. I hope they announce more about it soon, because I'm still very on the fence about it. If they announce it will be a true sequel set after ME3 then I might actually be able to get invested in the series again.

Try approaching it from the other side. The side you see when enter the room is not a very good place to jump on to get high enough to pick up the statue, though it's possible. The other side though, is easy as cake.

You DON'T have to get up the beams. Just stand on a pot on the table (or whatever it is, there's something on the table you can stand on)

Good for them.

However the game is rather middling with some large flaws including being overstuffed with low-quality filler. But I'm sure they're aware of that and will do better next time now that they've successfully moved to a new engine. After all their GM did feel the need to distance BioWare's premiere franchise from DA:I on another forum.

While I agree with you on most of what you said I am not sure I can agree that Mass Effect is B-Wares premiere Franchise to me that would be Dragon Age because after ME3 I dont know if I can get back into another Mass Effect Period but I will withold my scorn until more info on ME4.

I am hoping they make me eat my words I loved Mass Effect it was in my Top 3 Game Franchise's but now I dont know.

Pretend I didn't say this BUT:

Once you make finding the shards your focus, they aren't too hard to find, and the Solassan Temple was way more fun than I imagined it would be. I didn't do the quest on my first two playthroughs, but on this last one I did mostly everything- that temple was one of my favorites. I think it was probably the design, but the stats you get don't suck. I did it really late game though, so it was super easy. I think it's meant to be done later game, but this was -really- late game. Anyway, it's worth a shot. You can actually go into the temple and complete part of it a little at a time, you don't have to have all the shards to start it.

Feeding starving refuges who are too afraid to go hunt for themselves due to the magical psychopaths fighting eachother in the forest is trivial grunt work?

Yeah, who cares about the refugees? I mean, if they were actually worth anything they'd be fighting in the Inquisition army, am I right?

I'd much rather stay at camp and do paperwork anyway! ;)

I wouldnt get your hopes up about ME4 being a direct sequel to ME3 B-Ware has already said the next game will be taking place during the events of ME3 so that means no Fan Favorites will be involved "Tali,Garrus & Liara" thank god.

I want the ME4 characters to be as interesting as the Dirty Dozen "The Superior Squad In My Opinion" I loved the original squad minus Liara but I want characters like Jack,Kasumi,Mordin & Grunt so please B-Ware make awesome squadmates for ME4.

Wut?

That would necessitate a frantic setting where the reapers are destroying everything that's interesting about the universe...

Are you sure it's not during the events of ME2?

I'd love to see that too.

I mean I recall them having said their next game would play within the same general timeframe as Shepard's trilogy, but I never heard something as specific as ME1, 2 or 3.

No, there's no official source for that.

There was some 2 minute footage shown and some journalists got all crazy with it. That's where it comes from, and it's utterly ridiculous.

And then people wonder why developpers are hesitant to show what they're working on

This is great news!

Dragon Age is my all time favourite series. One of the only games to make relationships an important feature and to allow us the chance customise our characters as much or as little as we like. I have NEVER experienced any game as amazing to me as Origins was when I first played it.

I am a total Dragon Age fan girl :D (and proud of it )

what role playing is there in

"go get me ram meat?"

"go find these glyphs"

"go kill these bandits"

There is none if that is what you were asked to do, but actually you were asked to

"Find food for starving refugees, because their hunters can't hunt due to the war between the templars and Mages"

"Kill the Freeman of the Dales because they are killing innocent refugees from the Civil War"

That is RP.

I was never told by anyone to find glyphs, I discovered them on my own.

Any quest boiled down like that sounds crap

"go kill Saren"

Anyway back on topic;

SUPER HAPPY! we'll be getting another DA. I've enjoyed them all so far!  :D
