Five game plan?

There has been vague indication from BioWare that they have plans for five games. It's unclear whether this means 'we'll make five games and then stop/switch to some kind of spin-off or sequel series' or 'we have ideas for five games right now and after that we'll see what happens.'

For what it's worth, Mike Laidlaw made a joking reference to Dragon Age 6 at last year's PAX Oz.

The technical "length" of the DA series, although I imagine that it'll be more than that if the series continues to be successful.

I could easily see them going into the next Age if DA is still doing well at that point.  It will still be a Dragon Age game but...set in the next age.

Dragon Age still has 58 or so years in it though

Don't worry.

Given the divergent events at the end of DAI, I'm fairly confident that we're done with Southern Thedas for quite a while.

Tevinter, Seheron, Anderfels, Rivain. I expect DA4 to be in one or more of those areas.

Yep.

Time to head north, I think. It's a good way to start with a blank slate and not really have to deal with the consequences of DAO/DA2/DAI, because we haven't really done anything that will significantly affect Tevinter, Rivain, Nevarra, etc. They can always have cameos of the Divine or the Orlesian/Ferelden monarch, but nothing else is really going to be different.

Just to point out: Mike has actually denied saying this. (Yay The Examiner is useful for once!)

"I have no idea what I was talking about there, frankly. There's no plan for a specific, limited number of DA games. Oh, we totally do have an arc planned for DA, but if I said it was five games, I must have misspoke. More ongoing."

Oh I don't know about that, we have had a lot of intereactions with people from the North.

Was this really ever in doubt? Right after the game launched laidlaw already confirmed they were working on pre dev for the next title and even gave out potential areas of N. Thedas where it would take place and the conflicts they wanted to explore.

I am excited. I know I am not the only one (here on these boards) that thinks DA: I is phenomenal.

Nice to see there are other people not in Doom and Gloom mode. :)

Its a great game. I've gotten my moneys worth. The people who don't like it just want everyone else to hate it with them.

They wouldn't have gone to the trouble of developing the Keep and continued development if Inquisition was going to be the last.

If the game was a nuclear bomba I could see them questioning franchise viability and deciding that their resources would be better spent elsewhere (Mass Effect, Star Wars, the new IP).

Fortunately it seems that their expectations were realistic and the game successfully met them.

The quite as I recall it is him saying that they have enough material for 5 games around the time DA2 was either close to release or during development. People took that to mean 5 games b/c of the ME series being a trilogy.

This series can continue forever... its funny, I've been aware of DA since the beginning, but it took this game to get me to play the first two. And damn!!!!! Glad I did - both of the first two games had major pros and cons, and this one is no exception. But the pros far outweigh the cons. Am I the biggest RPG player of all time? Nope. Do I love the depth and breath of RPG games? Of yeah. I think Bioware has found a nice balance between fun combat and RPG elements.

I do hope DA: Next sticks closer the DA: I format than try an all new formula....

Glad to see it's doing great not only with the reviewers but also commercially. Congratz to Bioware and the amazing team behind Dragon Age B)

I love Inquisition, but I still find Origins to be the best in the series, especially due to 4 times as many spells, ability points that mattered (and could be customized at each level up), proper PC controls and customizable tactics. Maybe some of these things will come back to Dragon Age in the future, one can hope :)

if it means more fetch quests and huge lifeless areas with no connection to the story (which was too short) then please no

I want them to focus less on openworld and more on story and characters

I don't think fetch quests in themselves are bad. It's the way they're handled as much as anything.

A fetch quest to save a pig on its own is terrible, but add the option to turn the pig into bacon, and it's suddenly best quest ever. So if they could add some options to make them dynamic, that would be awesome. Witcher 2 shows the way there, and hopefully Witcher 3 even more so.

But yeah, the way inquisition handled them is probably the worst possible way of doing them - 'Here's a shopping list, run along now and fill it, I'll be over here by the stream catching the sun.'

Why's everyone saying the story is so short?

Its definetly not shorter than DA:O. And that story was stretched immensely by boring stuff like the Fade and the Deep Roads.
