I liked those restrictions as well. Made each race feel more unique. Every stat point mattered in that game. In some way.

I only played BG2, but I personally liked this as well, though it was a pain in the ass to roll at least acceptable numbers especially if you wanted to play for example a paladin or a warrior. And when you found an item that increased your stats it was a huge deal.

Indeed. and stuff that increased stats were very rare. Especially the stuff that increased them permanently. You had to live with your weaknesses in that game.

Yeah, like low str meant you are not able to carry a lot of stuff. But once you found that belt of giant's strength, it was really noticeable. Also low stats could pose other problems (low resistances, low AC, etc). In DAO/DA2 this was not so harsh, but still low constitution could pose some problems on higher difficulties, low willpower meant you are not able to use many sustainable abilities, etc. But even this is completely gone in DAI.

Also weapons and armours etc had strength requirements. DA:O had those too, I believe.

All because they want to sell the game to players like my granddaughter: Playing DA2: "Grams, how do you make it so only one thing makes you better? I can't remember what gives who what and what takes away stuff like health or power from them." [I patiently explain stats for the fifth time that hour]  *click, click click.* with mouse moving randomly and kid's eyes closed. "I can't remember it all, it's too complicated so I did it the fun way." This is a teen and unfortunately the type of players they tried to make the game acceptable for.

If you have to think, the game isn't fun, or so the younger generation tells me. It's got a big giant easy button that you can't unpress, you are stuck in easy mode, even if you are capable of thinking, that is not a system requirement so, the game can't expect anyone to do that. The operator is, after all a part of the system the game is being played on.

Well, they really shouldn't try when teens arent't even supposed to buy the game in the first place because o M rating. Ofc they are gonna play the game, but they should not be considered as a target audience. So I don't know if BW are just counting on the fact that teens are gonna get the game one way or the other or if they are dumbing it down for lazier adults.

I just wish they didn't mess around with Willpower like they did.  Why oh why has it become yet ANOTHER stat that increases damage, save that it's universal for all characters?  Yes, we have an 8-ability limit, and somewhat long cool downs, but you're often stuck waiting on mana/stamina after a couple of abilities, sometimes even after just one!  More mana and willpower would be so useful!
