She's probably my favourite companion, after Verric. But I see lots of people hating on her. Whats the deal?

My biggest complaint was that I couldn't romance her unless I was a lesbian. Still a funny and mechanically sound companion though.

I wouldn't say I dislike her but I do find her a little weird to be fair. I think she's a character that takes time to grow on you though. I've only done the 1 playthrough so far but I do plan on more so maybe I'll feel differently given more time.

I don't mind her, but she can be downright cruel sometimes especially if you're a Dailsh Elf. Also she's very childish and consider the concequences of her actions. If you call her out on her contradictions and overall selfishness, she brushes you off or say "no you!".

For me? Her selfishness and inability to take anything seriously.

 

She's grew on me considerably after my first playthrough, however. The speculation around her true identity has turned her into an extremely interesting, if not altogether likable, character.

Basically. I actually like her when I'm playing as a non-elf, but when I replay the game as my Dalish character, I don't even recruit her. I honestly felt almost like my elven Inquisitor was being bullied, and I just decided I didn't want to listen to that.

She talks about being a little kid when the blight hit, so I am assuming she is still a teenager - I'm not sure what her actual age is supposed to be but everyone complains of her being too immature. I think she is more complex than she is given credit for. She's definitely covering up for having a crappy childhood and keeps a wall of humor up to prevent others from getting in. You get to see more of her personality if you put the time in.

 

I rather enjoyed her. I don't use her anymore now only because my first two times through I used her in my party all the time and I like to change things up.

I like her, but in the playtrough where I romanced her (which I had planned to be the canon), she forced me to play in a way that didn't really follow "my" character attitiude and behaviours.. the result was just that I couldn't consider that playthrough my canon one, and it's so annoying since my first "choice" has always been the canon.

People can't talk her out of things, some also feel that "love conquer all" should apply in her romance, it doesn't.

 

I think my favorite line from her is when after the conversation about her goal, you have the option to tell her "well I can work with that" to which she replies "as if anyone asked you" or something to this extend.

 

She is rather wise character, even if she herself is unaware of it, just talk to her about the companions and religion, she is very spot on there.

 

I do wish there were better dialogue options when talking with her, talking with her made my IQ one dimensional.

I think her and Vivienne have such exaggerated personalities, it's either love or hate for them. Sera is just so obnoxious and juvenile it just gets annoying at times, especially in the party banter.

But I romanced her one Playthrough and some of the stories she tells you puts a little perspective on things, or when she says she's not used to the whole acceptance thing. but she still annoys me at times.

Her and Vivienne in the same party is funny sometimes though.

That's true, but I think I like Sera more because to me her views are basically harmless. She's basically just some street rat with a different point of view on the world. Vivienne on the other hand is actually someone with political influence and power, and she's pretty extremist in her views towards mages. I'm not gonna say I hate her, because it takes a lot from a character to get me to hate them (which is why I never understood the whole Ashley hate thing from Mass Effect). But I will say that Viv is someone I do not get along with.

Her line about religious fanatics and what the actual existence of the Maker implies is also spot on.

But they're two of the best written and voice acted characters in the game I think. Vivienne has some extreme views on how mages should be handled but she's a good advisor. When she tells you that you have realize what happened at Haven was a blow to the Inquisition, or when she tells you how you need to carry yourself, to be respected, feared, capable etc. I agree with her on a lot of things that aren't about mages.
