A thread about why people hate a fictional character? Why hate/have a problem with a character that DOES NOT EXIST in reality? Show me the exact Same Sera in reality, then you can continue hating a FICTIONAL character who DOES NOT EXIST.

Then why are you defending said fictional character if said fictional character does not exist? This is a forum, where people discuss and express their opinions on a fictional game. If you do not see the point in hating or having a problem with a fictional character and for that matter you should also see issues with hating on a fictional world then why are you here if not to troll?

So... We aren't allowed to dislike fictional characters? Does that means we aren't allowed to like fictional characters either?

Why is there a constant repetition that she is a video game character?  Is that fact unknown to some people?  Does that fact somehow negate that people could have feelings about the character one way or the other?   It truly has no bearing on the views people hold about her.

(Psst, the answer to my last two questions is no, in case that was confusing anyone)

EDIT: x-post with MoonDrummer.

It seems to come up a lot in these "How can people possibly hate Sera!?" discussions, that people must hate Sera because they can't make her conform to their/their Inquisitor's opinions, which I feel is entirely untrue. That's not to discount that I'm sure some people actually do feel this way (which is sad), but as someone who is not on the Sera bandwagon, I find it irksome that this statement keeps being bandied around.

After reading through many comments in this thread (and older ones), and from my own personal opinion, it's not at all bothersome that Sera doesn't change her opinions, like MANY of the other companions, but it is bothersome that she insults you for having a different opinion than hers. If you don't think the same way she does, you're stupid and your opinions are invalid which is an extremely immature attitude to have. A lot of people just don't want to deal with that immaturity, myself included. I know I would feel a lot differently about her character if I were able to have a respectful conversation with her about things that we don't necessarily agree on (and can just agree to disagree), but instead I'm 'treated' to an argument with someone who suddenly displays the emotional maturity of a toddler.

Believe me when I say that I keep trying to like Sera's character, and there are moments when interactions with her are almost enjoyable, but more often than not I'm simply left wondering why it is I'm sitting there trying to have a serious conversation about what just happened with someone who's only answer is "Pthhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

I get that. Which is why I like that you can choose to play into her delusions and garner approval or tell her what a ditz she is if you don't. What I do dislike is that if you aren't willing to go for the approval points you miss out on many conversations and even personal quests because she doesn't like you enough. It left me me feeling many times that I had to make choices based on unlocking further content with her rather than responding how my character wanted to. I do so love her personal quest - watching her beat the snot out of the Noble is somehow gratifying - or even better using nobility knowledge to complete remove all his holdings. If Sera hates me though - I will never get there. The game can be rather black and white in this respect.

The fact should be a factor because the people who made the game made her the way she is. Why hate a character when the developers made her that way? Only because one takes the game too seriously.

She is a fictional character, how she acts or who she is should not bother you in the slightest as she no longer exists when the game turns off. only someone who cares too deeply for the game can get worked up over a character that means nothing in the long run.

Yeah well, I don't apologize for ADORING Sera or hating Vivienne OR for reloading the entire bloody Rannoch mission after Tali swan dived off a cliff and I screamed at my screen.  If that means I take my games too seriously, so be it.  They're my games to do so if I like.

Have you never been moved by a piece of music?  A passage in a book?  A particularly stirring lyric?  A scene in a movie?  Must be a pitiful life if the answer to all of those is no.

Do not listen to much music, so do not care if I am or not. DO not read books unless they are text books for school. Lyrics and music are the same. and do not watch movies that much, unless they have a lot of action in them.

I'm really baffled at your view on fictional characters. As long as their have been books, as long as their have been TV shows, as long as their has been internet this has all been absolutely common everyday conversations normal rational human beings engage in. I'm concerned you are unaware of this.

It is kind of natural though, no? People don't discuss same kind of things with people they like and with those they don't like.

I kind of like that different dialogue options will give you different perspective on the character, even in rl we never fully know and understand people around us.

She's definitely a character that will either mesh well with your quizzy, or she won't. From an OCD, "must do everything!" gameplay standpoint, it for sure can be frustrating not to 'collect' every companions' personal quests and conversations, but from an immersion standpoint I have to be honest and say that I really like that if a companion doesn't like you, then they don't share personal information with you.

I do not have a problem with ANY fictional character because I understand that they are fictional. Fictional characters are characters who are non-existent in the real world, and if that is wrong, what is a fictional character? Having a strong opinion on Sera such as the ones in this thread makes me think that people treat her like a real person when she is not.

Would you please go watch Old Yeller and report back if you cry at the end?  I think that would be really telling in a lot of ways.

EDIT:  Okay, maybe not cry, but lump in throat?  A bit choked up?  Anything?

IS there a lot of action/fighting in it? I do not watch anything that does not have a lot of action in it.

I also like having to earn personal quests.

And I hate to be blunt, but this whole "she's a fictional character so you shouldn't care" argument is stupid.  These characters exist to elicit a response from the audience.  If that weren't the case they would be combat automatons who didn't have personalities.  There would be literally no point to fiction whatsoever if we weren't supposed to respond to it.

Why create a thread just to respond to a character. one person does not like Sera. WHO CARES?

Why are you on the forum? Why did you look in this thread if you think that having opinions on fictional characters is a waste of time? The thread title screams 'post your opinions on a fictional character named Sera'

I didn't create the thread, but I like discussions like this because it promotes deeper understanding of the characters.  I imagine that doesn't matter much to you (I could be wrong), but  I enjoy that aspect of the game.

Why have a thread on something that does not matter at all (people's opinions on a specific character). I never understood or cared for people saying "I hate (insert companion here) because (insert reason here)". The only person who cares so deeply about your opinions on a character, is you.

These characters are a series of 1s and 0s. That is my opinion on Sera. She is a series of 1s and 0s whose behavior is a series of the same.

Plus, this thread is not about opinions on a character, but is supposed to be about why people hate that character. That has been answered. As Sera says "Some people are stupid."

Facsinating, but that's not an answer to my question.

I do care, I care about getting the truth out there. Who cares about your opinion? Who cares about mine? No one but the person with that opinion, that is who.
