The fact should be a factor because the people who made the game made her the way she is. Why hate a character when the developers made her that way? Only because one takes the game too seriously.

 

Though, the developers designed her to be polarizing and get a lot of hate.  And she does...they succeeded I guess.

It is true. Most people do not care about opinions, except the person giving it. As far as I am concerned, people just hate Sera, just like some people just hate Solas, or Sera, or Briala, or Celene. Who cares about why?

I was curious to see if you had reformed your character thread trolling ways since you hectored everyone at Bethsoft forum about how they shouldn't do what the developers intend- care about the story. It's apparent that you're still in form.

Don't hate her, can't bring myself to like her though. I know she has cookie eyes and has a miserable childhood etc., but still, that does not make taking her insults to my (character's) face any easier.

Not only I'm not a native speaker. I'm actually from a country where the West was evil incarnate before '89. Most of the English teachers I had in life were actually teaching Russian before the Curtain has fallen, and are re-taught into English. By all intents and purposes, I should suck at anything English-related.

 

So, here I am, asking you, why do I understand everything she says?

I didn't like her at first because I thought she was a liability (she shivved the noble while I was exploring my options), but I benched Varric in my second playthrough and got to know her a little better and she grew on me.  She's loopy, courageous, insightful and childish - sure she annoys me sometimes but so do a few of the other characters *cough Vivienne cough*. I wonder though if I'm not connecting with some of the characters properly because I keep getting the silent treatment (banter bug).

It should be pretty obvious as to why a lot of people don't like her. She's annoying. If people do like her, that's fine - but I would have imagined they'd be well aware of how grating someone with her personality, mannerisms and accent can be. Personally I loathe her because she's barely an elf at all and combined with the loss of Solas we're going to move forward without an actual elven companion at our side.
