Why all the hate for Sera?

If you get low approval with her, she'll just complain that you're mistreating people as Inquisitor. That right there is empathy.

Seems more like a false allegation intended to make you feel bad. Hypocrisy even. So stuff like "recruiting the mages as equals and not servants" or "believing in 'elfy' stuff" constitutes "punching down, hurting people", whereas stuff like "outright murder of the unarmed" and "pranking others for personal amusement" is perfectly fine?

Seriously, though. Can anyone name any specific instance where you earn Sera's disapproval and it legitimately hurts anyone?

Was a sociopathic killer.

never was sociopath, sociopaths don't  suddenly grow conscience, moral responsibility etc.

In fairness, allying with the mages rather than conscripting them can be construed as rewarding dangerously inept fools who put both themselves and a great many other people in danger by aligning themselves with the Venatori. In this respect she shares Cassandra's sentiment, and I can't say that either are really wrong. I'm always a bit torn on allying with the mages because of this, though I always conscript the Templars, 'cuz f*** the magic police.

I assume that these lines are meant to cover the general disapproval, much like Cassandra being a drunk and Vivienne going all passive aggressive, since there's so many things you can do and say to make approval plummet.

Pranking  was a strategic move,  a coarse one, but still it's not done for personal amusement, it's done for morale of your troops. You also  don't have to do the pranks that you  think will do more harm than good.

Allying with mages does little in the general scheme of things and you really don't need to agree with her on everything to get to the roof scene, showing that you care about people around you and not letting the whole Inquisitor title get in your head usually does the trick.

The only reason I recruit Sera is because I love using the Jar of Bees and I think that's the only way you can get it. I only keep her because the Verchiel March gives an agent if you have the nobility perk. But I find her so teeth-grindingly immature and juvenile and puerile that I rarely go and talk to her beyond that. I can tolerate Vivienne far better than Sera because even if I don't agree with Vivienne , I can see where she's coming from and there's one conversation you can have with her that makes me wonder how traumatic it was for her when her magic first appeared that she clings so tightly to the Chantry rhetoric - thus she's interesting even if she's also annoying. Sera is just annoying without the interesting part.

And again with the double standard, if there is any thread that should exist similar to this, it's  Blackwall, or possibly a Vivienne or Iron Bull hate thread. Blackwall again, basically is sociopathic deranged killer, Iron Bull does it for a living, and Vivienne is basically pure snark.

No not even remotely.

That would actually make him more interesting than watching paint dry.

Yeah that became apparent pretty quickly in my first playthrough. I had planned from the start to play a humble Inquisitor that didn't want to be this big symbol or anything so it kind of all worked out.

I like to think Auld Wulf was perfectly aware if what he was doing when he called me a genocide fetishist, but I just can't swear it

I can't believe that people actually believe this. The guy comes down with a mysterious disease that can't be cured magically, then conveniently dies just after she gives him a "potion"- from a beast we know can produce powerful poisons. Then afterward she preens about how his death secures her all his influence in the Council of Heralds. "And I couldn't have done it without you, Inquisitor." Yes, I'm sure you're pleased that you implicated me in your murder. And she probably bumped off the wife, too. I mean, does anyone not think this is how it went down? If so, are you paying attention to Orlais at all?

As to "hate" threads in general: I, for one, am not really settled as to why I dislike these characters, so I see discussing them with fans as a good way to get different perspectives in case I missed something. DAI is harder for me than DAO to roleplay different characters, so I'm also biased from having played and identified with Lavellan mage the most. Furthermore, as long as people are giving reasons and not being hostile towards other players, or spamming fan threads, I don't think anyone should be threatened by those that dislike a character. I find that you can learn from haters, too.

Its why i'll never use Vivienne again, next playthroughs i'll just have her leave when she turns up, shes the worst, most evil companion i've ever had to deal with.
