My problem with Sera is that she acts and talks before she thinks. When we first encounter her, she starts by murdering two people without a care, as if it was a game; even though the soon to be inquisitor easily dodged those fireballs that were thrown at him/her.

Sera also didn't know if those she murdered were actually criminals or guilty of anything.. "my people just said the inquisition should look at them"... seriously?

Now if Sera had arrived after all hell broke loose, then it would have painted her in an entirely different light. But from my perspective then I was still in a position to question or even arrest the fire throwing maniac.. but Sera elected herself judge, jury and executioner.

She exhebits this sort of attitude throughout the entire game, which is why I simply told her to ****** off right then and there on my second playthrough.

Judging from that fool Orlesian's monologuing and declaration of his being an enemy of the Inquisition, I doubt negotiations or attempts to arrest were going to go anywhere productive.

You're under arrest! [fight ensues and he dies anyway]

Oghren is by far my most hated companion. Everything he said made me want to shank him. Tasteless harassing jerk.

Loghain was a real threat, a person whose threats should be taken seriously. That orlesian noble that Sera killed was... well.. i'm still not convinced that he was actually being serious. I mean, he was all the way out where you have to ask yourself.. is he being sarcastic?

Loghain felt more like an obstacle than a threat. Howe, on the other hand, actually did more to impede the Warden's progress, from hiring the assassin to take you out, to keeping Anora prisoner with a mage in his employ.

But anyway, who can tell with these silly masked Orlesians? Tossing fireballs and bloviating about his importance seems more like a joke, with his death making a more fitting punchline.

If it wasn't for her cruel attitude towards romanced Lavellan I would like her. But her "ultimatum" is just a classic manipulative tactics used by many emotional abusers: she insults Lavellan's culture, says that she shouldn't have started it (aka people like you are terrible and should be avoided like plague) and then doesn't just demand & she assumes that, obviously, Lavellan agrees with her trying to control and bend her beliefs, because that's the only way, isn't it?
It was fucked up, Bioware, fucked up

While I can tolerate Sera I cannot tolerate how she wishes to push her close mindedness onto others. She can have her beliefs that find but from her point of view they are the only beliefs can ever apply. If she doesn't believe in it that its not in any possible and anyone who does believe in it is lesser for doing so. There is only black and white in her world and she always in the right, she's an internet troll in elf form

I honestly thought her character was refreshingly repulsive.  In a medieval setting or back 1000 years ago most uneducated city/common folk would be acting like Sera when faced with practitioners of ancient/dead/different religions, cultures etc. deemed heretical and wouldn't stop for a second to burn a supposed witch for being an evil servant of dark powers.  She's too ignorant, afraid and insecure to accept that she could be wrong, because she couldn't function in a Thedas that's full of magical dangers, free mages, ancient gods and evil entities roaming the country sides and no Maker truly looking out for the simple folk.

I think it would have been nice if the Inquisitor, especially one that tries to romance her, could help her overcome her fears of a chaotic world and admit to herself that she could be wrong and that's ok.  Instead players have to appease her viewpoints and sink to her level.

Here's my recent playthrough of Crestwood with Sera in the party.

Dwarven Inquisitor: I don't think those Grey Wardens are part of Coryhpehus' plot.

Sera: (giggle) Would they tell you?

Dwarven Inquisitor:  <_<

FIVE MINUTES LATER

Jana: The wardens are awesome and totally wouldn't sacrifice me!

Dwarven Inquisitor: Solas?

*Solas convinces Jana not to do something stupid*

*Sera Disapproves -100*

Seriously?

FINE MINTUES LATER

Sera: (giggle) Dwarves are short. Like really short. You'd need two of them stacked to look one in the eye.

Iron Bull: At least they'd have a great view.

Dwarven Inquisitor in Romance with Iron Bull:  <_<

Sera basically annoys some people. She was meant to be annoying or she wouldn't be the only character we can boot. People don't like being annoyed so they don't like Sera. Go figure.

As for myself, I would go so far as to say she doesn't care about other people's feelings because no one has ever shown her the same respect.

What's sad is that the Inquisitor -- through being respectful to Sera -- can not help her learn these same social skills. She probably wouldn't have any desire to. Which is why her character always stays exactly the same.

I pretty much agree with the Sera haters in this. She is pretty emotionally/verbally cruel to Lavellan, whether she's romancing her or being her friend. I befriended her on my first pt as Lavellan and the ridicule about her culture didn't stop even then. I am an atheiest and I would never mock a Christian friend of mine. That's just mean. I thought friends didn't do those things to each other. Guess I was wrong?

(I still recruit her ever pt. Her and Solas are hilarious together)

I loved Sera. She's fun and whimsical when things can get bogged down. She cares about the underdog. I think for some people she's a little to crazy, but I found that very endearing about her. And killing nobles who don't care about the people beneath them?... I'm okay with that.

The banter between her and Iron Bull and her and Blackwall are wonderful.

I gathered that her disapproval in this encounter is based solely on her dislike of Solas, and the Inquisitor deferring to his judgment, because in this same encounter, if the Inquisitor tells Jana not to join, she will approve, because she's expressed at some point in the game that it's a bad idea to join the Wardens. The same is true of the elven mage in the cultist camp in the Hinterlands. If you have Solas convince him to go to his parents, she disapproves of that too, but will approve if you convince him yourself.
