I am a new player to Origins and am having blast with it.  I played all the opening origins to see all the beginnings.  Got a few characters up to orzammar and killed the carta for Lord Harrowmont, saw Leske in a cell and freed him each time and couldn't wait to get my dwarf commoner to that point to see what he would say.

I finally got my dwarf commoner to Orzammar and had a reunion with my sister and turns out her the patron she was talking about is the scum bucket Bhelin, so now I am related to him as well.  Breaks my heart to go against family but no way I can support him for king.   If that wasn't enough I ran into Leske in the dust quarter out of the cell and he acts all friendly and helpful but turns out he is Jarvia's right hand man now and sets me up.  I have to kill him :(

The dwarf commoner just gets no breaks at all in this game, it is so sad.

Actually, the dwarf origins were the last 2 I did.  While I really hated the dwarf noble's story, I really enjoyed my commoner, and she fast became my 3rd favorite origin.  I played her as very loyal to her sister, and looking after her interests and the interest of her nephew was her top priority (after the wardens, of course).  Bhelen is a sleeze but he seems to genuinely care for (for the life of me I can't remember her name--the Brosca's sister).  When I played Natia I tried not to get too involved with Bhelen's dirty dealings and focused instead on the sister and her happiness.

Leske was a disappointment but *shrug* Orzammar is dog eat dog, from backstabbing nobles to ruthless carta.  I was kind of expecting it to be honest.

^ I could never break Rica's heart. If that meant putting Bhelen on the throne, then on the throne he went.

I definately wasn't expecting the Leske twist.  He was locked in a cell in Jarvia's hideout on all my other playthroughs so I was expecting him to be there with my dwarf commoner as well and have a happy reunion not a betrayal.  Oh well.

There is no way I could put Bhelen on the throne.  Just knowing what he did and even the way he talks to you when you are trying to help him out offended me.  I did his first task just so I could talk to him and get his side.  No thank you.  Lord Harrowmont all the way.  I love my sister but Bhelen is as bad or worse than Behrat was.

I just got to that part as well. It really was a bummer to have to kill Leske. I quite liked him, and Dalil Brosca was happy to see his old buddy again. Upon the encounter with Jarvia I first picked dialogue options expressing disbelief, which resulted in Jarvia doing all the talking and then cutting to the fight. I could not believe there wasn't a single word from Leske, so once the fight was over and there were no dramatic final words I reloaded and tried a different route. More dialogue from Leske there, but I was disappointed I could not persuade him to take my side in the fight. Seemed like he didn't have much to lose, and we did manage to kill Beraht way before that...

Meeting Rica again was great, though, as was the reunion with Mother. Well, that latter was rather sad, but somehow amusing as well. Had Morrigan in my party and her comment "seems like we have more in common than I thought" was an amusing surprise. And I was glad I could at least mention having to kill Leske to Rica.

Supported Bhelen and gave him the crown. Could not break Rica's heart like that and she genuinely seems to believe in him. I lol'ed when she said he cried for a week when they kept him away from his father's death bed. I have a hard time picturing that.

Why would he be there? In the DC origin you both get out of Beraht's dungeon. You, however, get out of Orzammar altogether while Leske remains stuck among the casteless.

Jarvia could have him imprisoned again?

Good question.  Perhaps Jarvia had him captured and locked up after she took over.  Don't know why he would be a prisoner for everyone but a dwarf commoner where he is the right hand man of Jarvia.

Ahh I didn't find mother, guess I didn't explore the royal palace enough.  Just talked to Rica expressed my concerns about Behlen.  Talked to Bhelen and then went and slaughtered his men in the proving for Lord Harrowmont.  Have not talked to her since, kinda stopped playing the dwarf commoner.  This twist kinda threw me, I was looking forward to a happy reunion with family and old friends and did not get it.  I will have to pick it back up and see what happens with going against my so called new family now *sigh*.

The mother was in the same room as Rica for me, at the back. But you sided with Harrowmont, and I think that section of the Royal Palace will remain off-limits for you until you switch sides/solve the election problem. I don't know if they will still be there either after you've made Harrowmont king. Could be they get thrown out and you don't get to talk to them.

Leske is a survivor, but he lacks incentive to strike out on his own. In the Dwarf Commoner Origin, the DC is the ones who gets them out of the Holding Cells, either by opening the cells themselves or giving Leske lockpicking tools. In the other Origins, the DC doesn't succeed and eventually just gives up. Leske holds on to life, but never tries to escape until the Warden arrives.

In the DC origin, after DC has been taken to Ostagar, Leske is alone in Dust Town. He's got no real friends, since "Berath doesn't like his grunts to get too cozy". He has no real connections of his own and he has just murdered the head of Orzammars Carta and a prominent member of the Merchants caste. So he vanishes.
Meanwhile, Jarvia takes over. After settling into Beraths place, she either tracks down Leske (he's a loose thread which could mean trouble later on and letting him live freely might be seen as a weakness) or Leske approaches her (he has no friends, can't get any work and probably wants to get back on the Cartas good side).
Leske is really good at boot licking and will pretty much lower himself down to the core of the earth if he feels it's needed. He offers his service, after all, he's been a loyal Carta memeber all his life (except for the killing Berath part...) and with some smooth talking he can be made to look like a dangerous killer, who loyally serves the new Carta leader and will kill anybody who opposes her. (And he does pretty good once he's in the position. With some more self esteem, Leske would probably be quite formidable. )

TL:DR Leske lacks the drive to escape the Holding Cells on his own, but once he's out he's able to smooth talk Jarvia into letting him live in order to serve her.

I wish the encounter with Leske in Jarvia's HQ had had more dialogue options than variations on "You rat! You betrayed me!" My Brosca was like, "Dude, I get it, you did what you had to do, but seriously - leave now. No, really. Just go."

Not that I'd expect that he would, even if the option had been there, but it would have been nice to try it.

I usually don't put Bhelin on the throne unless I'm a dwarf commoner.  Gotta help your sister.

Special DC perk - take Morrigan with you when you return to Orzammar and go see your mother in the royal palace for some hilarious bonus dialogue...

Sadly there is no option to get him to turn or leave, but there are some choices available that avoid cussing him out. Most judgmental of them was "I would never have betrayed you!" I think. And Leske will say you've had too much sun on the head that you didn't see it coming. He's just intent on seeing it through.
