I think I felt a certain spark between your QFE and my Valkyrie the last time we were schooling the jugg and krolord in the art of killing big monsters. So if there's one thing that I can say for sure it's this...

considering that they have died in one way or another every single playthrough out of like.....10, I think I'm okay then.
You can avoid the feels if you airlock Legion in ME2 or make sure he doesn't make it back from the suicide mission. Tali is all like, "I knew that thing would turn on us" about shanking the not-Legion, and it's totally awesome.

I'd rather kill the quarians than the Geth (if I was forced to).
But it never came to that in any of my playthroughs. Tali and legion were some of my favorite squadmates in ME and I couldn't lose either.

If I decide to keep Legion (who was one of my favourite squadmates in ME2 as well) around I generally don't kill them right then either. Instead, I let the destroy ending do my work for me.
Seems too much like poetic justice that the Reaper code nonsense they force you to let them have ends up dooming them. That's actually my preferred outcome for the whole thing.

Snap. Well, almost, as I did choose Synthesis once, and I think it's only 9 playthroughs in my case. I am something of a Destroyer.
I've never saved the Geth at the expense of the Quarians, I've never shot Mordin, and I've never sabotaged the Genophage cure. I did have one early playthrough of ME2 where I killed Wrex by means of Interactive Comic Back Story, but I was young and foolish, and deleted that character in shame.

Oh Keelah, I shot Mordin in my first playthrough out of concern that Wreav would go all Krogan rebellion on my goddamn war plan. It was horrible. Don't do it. Even after he came down with multiple personality disorder, he didn't deserve that. Give him a suit and he would have made a good quarian to replace Koris.
I prefer sabotage just so he lives nowadays, though that also means invariably killing Wrex. Guddamnit.
