For your knowledge, there is the cheek kiss culture for greetings and thanking in Most of Europe and Middle East and it's not Romantic/Gay, alright? But do Anglo-Saxons (German related cultures) understand?

Eh, hugs I can do. Kisses on the cheek from complete strangers? No.
And over here in the UK, it's expected of you (in some situations anyway) to kiss women on the cheek when greeting them formally especially when we're talking about middle and upper class. The only person I want to kiss in any way is my girlfriend.
But I do understand the culture of cheek kissing. My Greek family side always do the cheek kissing when greeting each other.

I'm not a fan of the kissing at all, myself, even when it became the latest hype at school because everyone suddenly felt so 'grown up'.

Well, I have no problem with cheek kissing, but I prefer to do greetings and thanks Eastern Asian style: Without touch! Bowing classy.
