Commander Ivanova disapproves ... which basically means she'll kick your butt out the nearest airlock. ;)

(She and Javik would have gotten along just fine.)

On topic: As stated, there are Russians in the game. Plus, it is made very clear in the beginning of Revelations, that ethnicities are very much mixed in the ME future and you barely find anyone who doesn't have traits from several ethnic groups anymore. As for language, we are hearing a translated version of all languages (as is done in almost all SciFi, in-lore explanation: translator in omnitool). And if we can translate Hanar luminescent signals in real time into fluent English, I am sure we can translate Russian.

And by the way, I haven't come across any blatantly Scandinavian person in hardly any game ever, yet, I have also never read a comment on that. Somehow they seem to be more chilled out about it.

Liked your post, especially the Commander Ivanova part.  :D

But as for the diversity in ME,  this description on Watson always made me chuckle.

Not everyone was American. Anderson was born in London.
And as mentioned before, there was also that guy who was born in London. Think it was Anderson.

I was born in London

That side look Anderson gives Shepard on the shuttle on Earth, after telling him for the second time that he was born in London, never fails to crack me up.

Best part of Priority: Earth, hands down. I burst out laughing every. single. time.

Considering how pathetic Ken Donnelly's "Scottish" accent was. I think other nationalities got lucky they weren't represented in game

It really wasn't that bad.

Really, Donovan Hock's accent was the worst out of all the human ones.

Plus, they did hit the sweet spot with other accents. Australian was represented perfectly with Yvonne Strahovski, who was of course an Australian herself.

I agree, John Ullyat's va as both Hock and Donnelly was rather suspect.

I suppose I may find Donnelly to be more offensive because I'm from Scotland and have a bit of an allergic reaction as to how badly Scottish accents are sometimes represented in media. It developed in my childhood when I heard James Doohan, then Christopher Lambert and Mel Gibson scarred my teenage ears. I got flashbacks when I heard Ken

To be fair to John Ullyat. The thing I found most jarring about Ken Donnelly was not the accent, but the dialogue. One line in particular makes me cringe, "Kick the Reapers in the Daddy Bags". No self respecting Scot would say that, lol. We're far more graphic in our vocabulary

James Doohan? Really?

I've heard that some cities there actually fight over the right to call themselves Scotty's future birthplace! I mean, bad accent (not really that bad) aside, he did kind of represent you guys pretty well.

Having been to Scotland several times, I personally heard several accents, with some being utterly incomprehensible, some sounding stereotypical, and some sounding more subdued.

When I think of Scottish accents, I think of David Tennant, Ewan McGregor, and Peter Capaldi most prominently. Karen Gillan has the more subdued one.

I can see what you're saying though. When I lived abroad, I heard a lot of obviously fake American accents (come on Limey's, a New York or Carolina accent doesn't work when the character you're portraying is from ****** Arizona or Colorado), and they used a lot of phrases that were either forced (which means they tried too hard), or totally non-existent within American lexicon.

AWR did very well with her British accent voicing Samantha

Isn't that because she's British?

Ot - In the first game the capital of Therum is Nova Yekaterinburg. I'd say you'd be able to buy a bottle of vodka there. Or ten.

James Doohan? Really?

The best true Scot and best accent is Billy 'frikkin' Connelly. "I see you Jimmy!"

Isn't that because she's British?

lol

Yeah I can imagine a Scottish town vying for that title, if only to squeeze more out of the tourism market, lol. We invent all sorts of things to keep visitors amused. I did chuckle when Bioware referenced one of our more famous myths in the Leviathan DLC

It's pretty in the highlands, but when you're used to real mountains, it doesn't look much more like a slightly forested hillside in Kentucky. At least you guys make (IMO) the best whisky on the planet.

I used to work with a guy from Glasgow. Incomprehensible when drunk.

That couple you meet in the first game and see through the series, Michael and Rebecca Petrovsky.

I wonder if they're related to old Oleg? lol

It's a fairly common surname in Russia.
