I'd suggest playing like this:

With active skills:
Barrier
Chain Lightning (or Dispel)
Static Cage
Fade Step

Optionally:
- Take out Fade Step and go for Dispel (right tree)
- Might take improved Chain Lightning, but go for improved Fade Step

This is purely whichever you prefer. I like the damage with chain lightning, shocking people and such. Sometimes the freeze from improved Fade Step helps tho.

Playstyle:

Apply barrier on your whole team and due to the way it's skilled you should have it up nearly constantly.
The passive Gathering Storm should help with resetting the cooldowns for it also.

So after you applied Barrier, your tank or whatever runs in, and you can cage them with Static Cage (huge bonus and CC for your team!) and use Chain Lightning to add some damage here and there.

If you ever get in trouble you'll have Fade Step to get out to safety and if sh*t really hits the fan you got yourself a passive barrier to help you out for some time more.

And even if you fall, you'll buff and heal the team for some time so they got time to rezz you again. It's a win-win! ;)

Chain Lightning (with ring - this ring is the most OP blue in the game)

Barrier

Mind Blast (to proc mana surge)

Veilstrike

everything else is runner up.

How? It only adds 20% not 30%, my CL does 300-350 without and 350-400 with. Even if it was 30% Longshot ring would still be better than that, Static Cage ring increases duration by 80% also amazing.

Whenever barrier depletes totally, it procs mana surge.

I find such to be a risky strategy on keeper. Some people like it, and I suppose it could make for a pretty funny dps keeper, but me personally I go barrier bot.

OP, I suggest you also give passives recommendations. The keeper just has so many good passives, and some should be beelined first before others and which would absolutely change the way the class is played even with the same actives.

Kenny, Mind Blast has an upgrade that allows you to gain barrier for enemies hit. It wasn't working before, but it is working now. It stops working after you die however.

I know that. Unless I've misunderstood the term "procs" this whole time, I fail to see how Mind blast can proc Mana surge when it fills your barrier while Mana Surge is dependent on your barrier depleting.

I think he means using mind blast to shatter the frozen mobs after mana surge triggers

Mind blast gives you Barrier. Your Barrier depletes. Mana surge is proc'ed.

Amartel, although Mind blast is a detonator, it wouldn't be really practical to time Barrier depletion to freeze enemies and then use a mind blast to do the ice combo.

So why doesn't the post read "Barrier & Mind Blast (to proc Mana Surge)"? The poster made it sound like Mind blast does something barrier won't.

Those are the four abilities that I run with, currently.

They have allowed me to successfully solo enough times to finish the last two weekend commendation challenges.

I hope that's a rhetorical question. But if for some reason that is an honest question, it is simply because Mind Blast upgraded does generate barrier, which when depleted, will proc mana surge.

You have Barrier which can be cast on team.

You have Fade Shield barrier generation

You have Mind Blast upgraded barrier generation.

If you're still looking for some hidden meaning in what he said, I'll tell you right now: There is no hidden meaning. When he said use mind blast to proc mana surge he meant exactly that.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying, so I'll try to explain.....

The OP listed a build which included Barrier & Mind blast, and made a point of mentioning that Mind Blast procs Mana Surge. Both abilities generate barrier, which when depleted procs Mana Surge. The post was phrased in such a way that it implied Mind Blast does something special/different (which Barrier doesn't) in order to proc Mana Surge. I enquired about potentially missing something (regarding it doing something special/different), and here we are.

Got it?

I'd also rather hear it from the poster, rather than accept your assumption.

the OP did not mention any of those things.

Kenny is clearly an antagonist who has issues of self importance.  i believe he is just being pedantic.  i recomend ignoring.

Huh? Did you actually mean to quote me?

I asked a fairly straightforward and sensible question based on the way your post was phrased. Call me a pedant if you wish. I'll accept that if it implies I have an actual understanding of the language.

He was referring to the build that you listed and asked if he misunderstood you.

If you interpret that as antagonizing, then I'd recommend that you avoid internet forums, entirely.

Mind Blast (to proc mana surge)

You know, this term "proc"... I do not think it means what you think it means.

I am pretty sure you meant "trigger", not "proc".

PROC is an programmers acronym that's made it's way into gaming years ago meaning "Programmed Random OCcurrence". It's used to refer to mechanics that have a random chance of occurring. Mind Blast and Mana Surge have no random chance to them, so therefore there is no proc involved.

Here is an example of a Keeper passive that will "proc". Note the random chance part:

Because Sera said so. Phwoar!

(I don't know... I see no evidence supporting that statement.)
