For al the hate weve given the m+kb controls, i decided to try a 2nd playthrough with a controller... Its just as bad! Unresponsive, sluggish, clunky, and constantly missing with melee abilities.. Trying to find your target, or keep it locked is a nightmare all its own.. And no way to pull the camera out, can quickly give motion sickness, nausea! Selecting through teammates is a slow process, which unless paused, leaves you vulnerable for enemy attack/advancement!  Im just in awe, with each aspect i find with little to no polish.. Its like nothing was created with care!!  How did we get this hunk of junk live?

The controller works great on the Xbox One, I must say. No complaints about it at all.

I'm completely happy with my mouse and keyboard. Wouldn't a touch a controller even with a ten foot pole.

Controller is good if you want to do a gym workout with your hands.

Yeah....

DAO and DA2 were 2 of the games I felt controlled better than any other similar games.

DAI, is the worst. Using either KB&M or controller.

It is an issue that has been raised countless times since the release of DAI. Bioware STILL has done nothing about it. Says a lot...

I'm pro controller here as well. I love how natural it feels to play with one in my hands.

Was there ever any doubt that KB/M works better, even with a less than optimal implementation?

Seriously, I have no idea how people can use a controller without breaking their fingers. Any kind of fine control is completely impossible with these things, at least if you also want to be reasonably fast. Use a mouse: poof you're there (if you're not DAI's tac cam, grrr). Use a controller: torturously work your way towards the point you want to reach.

It all depends on what you're used to.

Mouse and keyboard = work for me, because I work on a computer all day, and controllers are 100% more comfortable. Not to knock KBM, since obviously it's a fine option for some people, but I can only think of a couple of genres (RTS, really) I'd rather play on that than a controller (and I haven't really even played an RTS since Warcraft 3).

I tried the KBM controls though, and other than the click to attack, it seems no better or worse than the controls in DAO and DA2. Is the click to attack the sticking point for everyone?

I use a controller for this game on the PC, and I'm not having any issues.

Except when I played some games on my old PS2, I've never played any other games without a keyboard and mouse. I don't buy games that can't be played with a keyboard and mouse and I bought this game expecting it to play much better with a KB&M. As much as I like the game in a lot of ways, I'm really disappointed that using my KB&M, makes me think I'm playing it wrong. Still, I'm not going to buy a controller because I don't want a controller. Next DA game that comes out, I'm going to wait until it's been out, to be sure if I want to buy it for my computer. I can watch it on Youtube, if it isn't really made with a KB&M, in mind.

Selecting through teammates is a slow process, which unless paused, leaves you vulnerable for enemy attack/advancement!

Why would you try to do that without pausing?

I agree with the overall point. I don't see any controller advantage.

The controller is fine on xbone, but now that you mention it I do have a minor annoyance. In MP the buttons don't seem to register very well. I am a quick ability caster so I often tap the button corresponding to the ability and then button A to execute. Well about 30% of the time I will end up jumping instead of executing the ability because the button press didnt register.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the controller being wireless. You can just feel that it's not precisely responsive.

I prefer KB+M as I've used for decades, though I have an xbox controller for PC for a couple games (Alice) that pretty much require controller.

In DA:I, I just avoid the tactics view (other than quick oversight) and fight in 3rd person like in other games. It works well enough.

Biggest beef with this game is if I have the xbox controller plugged in, the game defaults to it and locks out the kb/m. On PC. Solution is to leave xbox controller unplugged until I decide to use it. Thanks Bioware.

This. The movement 'feels' sluggish... Unresponsive... Not in a good, or more "realistic" way that TW2 felt. like a person would take a split second to move, or stop. They lean into their movements. It just feels like a delay in my commands in DAI...

Looting is easier with a controller however. You have control over speed, so youre not left tapping W to inch closer to loot.Jumping, is also a little more natyral on controller. But its ALL bad design...Its just too unresponsive to be an action game, and not enough to be tactical!

In my first PT, trying to jump AND having to inch forward to get that high up shard in the Hinterlands (dragon area), was the pits. It took me forever, including having to go away and do non game things just to want to be able to come back and try it again. When you have to do all that finagling and inching up, just to pick up loot, with a KB&M, it's not going to be fun to have to try to get a shard that includes jumping and inching around.

People keep saying that the shards are hard to get with KBM, but I've had no trouble.

Then again, I also thought driving the Mako up mountains was fun.

Don't lock, and use the left stick to give direction to your swings.

(honestly, it doesn't get any more intuitive than that...)

I'm not good at jumping type games. I have gotten better at getting that shard now so I have improved.

Huh? No.

In game, it might be, but in the main menu you can always change.

Agreement to both of these. There's only one shard I always have trouble getting, that's the one beyond the jumping sequence in Shayna's Valley in the Hinterlands, and I can't imagine how that would be easier to get with a controller. Most likely, it'd be harder. And yeah, the Mako could go anywhere if you knew how to do it.

Riz, Tried the same thing and DAI kept forgetting the controller was attached and would consistently lockup or crash.  Running the logitech utility in the background did seem to delay the inevitable if that helps.

You need to learn to play melee charcters better. I rarely miss.
