So my latest playthrough, I have my World State set up so that the Warden romanced Alistair, then sacrificed herself to the Archdemon. Alistair remained with the Wardens.
I know that if his romance is still alive, and you speak to him at Skyhold, he will talk about her. But if she's dead, no mention is ever made that they were ever romantically involved, by anyone.
Was this a glitch with my game? Or did they really not include anything for this? The die-hard romantic in me was severely disappointed.
Alistair never mentions dead Romance?

Well, it HAS been a decade since the Blight. I wouldn't expect he'd still be in mourning, and he has a lot of other more pressing worries going on at the moment that kind of take priority over reminiscing about a woman 10 years dead, like the entire southern order out to capture/kill him. Some mention of her would have been nice, but I guess Bioware didn't feel the need to include it, unlike a living warden he hopes to be reunited with soon.

That is frustrating OP, those little mentions are the kind of treat we crave! I had issue with Warden Alistair beyond that though, just felt like his VA had forgotten the character.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that missed this. And yeah, I get it, it's been 10 years since she died. But there are so many other nods to characters from past games and the histories between characters. As an avid fan of the series, I wish BioWare had put SOMETHING in there to give a nod to his lost love!
Ah well. I'll just be over here imagining poor Alistair sacrificing himself to save the Inquisitor and Hawke, dying and being reunited in heaven with his beloved. I'm such a sucker for that kind of thing. ![]()

Y'know, I did notice he sounded different. In fact I wasn't sure it was the same VA, at first. I just chalked it up to the fact that it had been so long and he was under a lot of strain. heh

Its been 10 years since your HoF died. Its unlikely that Alistair still mentioned and mourns over her to everyone he comes across.
"Oh hi, I'm Alistair. I was romantically involved with the HoF who died 10 years ago. boo hoo."
So yeah I don't see why he even needs to mention her.
Now I know if your hero is alive, you can ask him about your hero. Is there no dialog for that if your hero is dead?
And I just thought of something... say your HoF is a female and romanced Alistair. Both of them remained with the Wardens and Queen Anora has the throne. Your Hawke never meets Stroud so by default Alistair should be Hawke's Warden contact. If you leave Alistair behind in the Fade, do you get a nasty letter from your HoF who just lost her loved one due to your decision?

Not even if you choose him to sacrifice himself in the fade? Wow that's a waste, that could have been a really powerful moment.

He doesn't need to bawl over it, but a mention of it can go a long way, if for no other reason than to loosely connect events of past games into a little continuity. Varric still pines for Bianca doesn't he?

I missed this as well. He doesn't need to be mourning over her, but a bit of different dialogue if they were romanced would have been nice. I'm pretty sure even Leliana and Morrigan have at least that much with a dead Warden (I know Morrigan even has a discussion with Alistair if she romanced the Warden and had Keiran -- no matter if he's OGB or not -- its just currently bugged).
Did he need to be over in the corner crying over the loss? No. But some kind of mention of her and that they were more than just friends/traveling companions would have been nice.

He does not have to bawl over her just mention her if left in the fade. I was expecting him to have a talk with Lileana in Skyhold and have her be metioned in a talk or something. He does mention my alive character that romanced him.You been dead 10 year, hell you expecting

It's important to include that if the HoF romanced Morrigan and sacrificed himself, there's a conversation between Alistair and Morrigan where he asks if Kieran is his son and they talk about how Kieran never knew his father, and Morrigan says something like "But it didn't have to!" in reference to how it ended with the HoF.

This would be pertinent though since this conversation is between two people who knew the HoF (intimately even) and is in regards to his living son (even if it's just a normal human child). Alistair bringing up a dead woman from 10 years ago to a perfect stranger wouldn't make as much sense. I have a hard enough time with his giving Hawke a trinket she owned 4 years after her death, but *shrug* it's already established as something he does if encountered in Kirkwall during the Qunari battle. Maybe some comment if left behind in the Fade about "At least now my long wait is over" would have been appropriate at that point, but just casually mentioning his dead love to a person he only just met 10 minutes ago wouldn't make sense and would have just been irrelevant to the story flow.
It's been my experience that Bioware doesn't handle death and grieving very well, most times missing the mark, but to have him constantly telling every stranger he just met, "I loved the HoF, but she died" would be worse IMO.

So the male warden gets a mention by Morgian, if he did the US but not for the female warden that romanced Alastair. That's just messed up!
And there it is.

Well, I thought it was obvious from day one that Bioware favors male warden and Morrigan over female warden and Alistair, since you know, having a son and living happily ever after in mirror world. That whole dlc (witch hunt) was for Morrigan romancers, makes no sense for a female Warden to track Morrigan down.
Idk, my Warden really wanted to see her best friend again. *shrug*

he could of said something like

I was really disappointed with several returning characters and Warden Alistair was one of the worst. I hope they stay the hell away from past PCs and companions in future games.

That whole dlc (witch hunt) was for Morrigan romancers, makes no sense for a female Warden to track Morrigan down.
My warden turned down Morrigan for a romance because it wasn't the right time. But he regrets giving up his son, so his hunt in that dlc was totally legit. He was mad Morrigan kept him from him. I imagine that he is trying to cure the calling for himself and his fellow wardens, and that afterward, he will continue to try to track down Morrigan because he wants his son. Giving him up was the biggest regret of his life.
My female warden knew there was more to Flemeth and Morrigan, so it made sense to keep an eye out. She felt like if something was going on or if Morrigan needed any help, she might return. (She like Morrigan even if they didn't always agree on things.)
But there are many other rp reasons for a non-romanced warden to keep an eye out for Morrigan or Flemeth; I have a lot wardens and they all have their own reasons though I will concede that the Morrigan romancers lucked out, kind of like the Liaramancers for the LOTSB dlc for the ME series.
