When in pugs, do as the pugs do.  Things just go a lot easier that way.

Exactly. It isn't hard to just deal with one match and find another lobby. I find most pugs I join, I'll play a few games with an ok group, then one guy gets too big for his britches and starts running ahead and rushing. No big deal, I'll just find a new match after.

Yep, if two are going one way and one is going the other, I'm going where the two went.

OP, there can be valid reasons for people to skip vases and chest rooms, but it depends on the situation. In a sentence, people skip vases and chests once they have gone past a certain threshold of gold spent or of items obtained. Don't hate on the people who skip chest rooms, they're just doing it for efficiency because bioware did a ****** poor job incentivizing people to do them, especially on perilous.

If you want a thorough explanation:

Routine gives ~550 gold, ~5,000 xp

Threatening gives ~1100 gold, ~10,000 xp, and is ~2x more difficult than routine

Perilous gives ~1400 gold, ~20,000 xp, and is ~2-3x more difficult than threatening

It is worthwhile to get vases and chest rooms in routine in completionist runs as you probably need gold for buying chests more than anything else at the moment. In threatening the gold is about twice as good, but mobs are also harder, with chest room booby trap arcane horrors and revenants having quite more hp than on routine. In perilous, there is only about a 25% gold increase over threatening, but the arcane horrors and revenants can be incredibly nasty. Most people will do routine vases and chest rooms, a good percentage of people will do them in threatening, and a small and decreasing number of people will do them for perilous.

You also have to consider that after you have spent ~200k gold, you begin to experience progressively reduced odds of obtaining useful items. See here for more information . Some people playing threatening and most people playing perilous have already gone past 200k gold. Once you've gotten maybe around 500k gold, your odds of obtaining good useful items from large chests becomes something like 1/25 to 1/75 chests.

I got a griffon bow out of one of those rooms that you guys love to skip. So I pretty much hate anyone that wants to skip them.

I got a griffon bow out of one, but it was the only good dungeon chest item I got. And this is after over 500 hours of playing.

Guys, I know vases and chest rooms have gold and loot, but you have to understand, bioware did a bad job at putting good things in chests (the odds of different quality items are identical between routine, threatening, and perilous) and at setting the amount of gold reward you can get from vases and chest rooms in perilous. Bioware NEEDS to incentivize people to do vases and chest rooms in perilous if they intend for more than a small fraction of perilous players to even spend time on them. And for threatening also I think there needs to be some bit of greater incentive for people to do vases and chest rooms. As for routine, it's already got a decent amount of gold for the effort and rock bottom odds of valuable items from chests, which is fine because people playing routine are still on the gear grinding game and aren't yet as concerned with xp promotion attributes as threatening and perilous players.

Since other people already touched on the "efficiency = skip doors" and "do what the Romans do" bits, here are some other points you should consider:

- Certain rooms (like the asymmetrical ones  ^_^) will never have guardians, only the person who can open the door need to stop for them. Damp "pros" who know this will often run ahead because there is no need for the entire team to watch one person open a chest.

- Mobs take priority over treasure rooms. E.g. If I see a mob heading my way on the mini map, I will "run ahead" to intercept them; it doesn't mean I won't come back for the door once the coast is clear. So, no need to spam "come here" the moment you see the door. Use it if you are sure the other person is not coming back for the door.

This, Why do we need to rage in debates in every thread about gold vs exp. Some people want the gold some people want the exp, this is the best way to do it.

I think mostly because it only takes a couple seconds to stop and open up a door for people. It's the ones who ignore all signals and breeze past the group to pug that spark anger.

I expect others to open doors while I clear. I'm not the only (class). Only one person needs to open doors and smash pots. The rest can move on. Maximize your time.

Depends how effectively they clear. If they kill all (or most) of the mobs faster, I see no issue. That's being efficient. If not, then not. Of course some people are going to be noobs about it. They can either learn, or move on (kicked if necessary).

This is a totally different scenario. I'm talking about when the pug is the only class capable of opening the door. I have no real issue if a double class goes on and the other one lingers a second to open a door. In fact I'm sometimes the second mage who speeds ahead to set up fire mines.

Here's the thing; Routine is full of new guys who want that gold to get better equipment. If you want to speed run, cool. Do it in Threatening or Perilous with your buds. Don't drop down to speed run Routine because it's "easy."

I am not a big fan of the treasure doors.  I prefer moving forward to the next encounter because I feel stopping to open the doors slows the pace down too much and the "reward" of a common item always makes me cringe

I break every vase I see and open every free door I can. Otherwise, I just go with the flow. I still have all the "collect X amount of gold" challenges to do.

Still, it is annoying when someone spams "come here" a bunch of times ESPECIALLY when I am en route to the door they want me to open.

Calm the hell down...

Actually routine is a rather poor level to be stopping and opening every door. So is perilous, imo. Threatening is the sweet-spot level where the enemies aren't so tough that it takes forever to get through, and the loot is decent enough that you can actually make some change on the side by stopping.

Edit: and by loot I mean gold. the items are always a disappointment.

I actually find there is no excuse at all for not getting all doors and all pots.  If a team actually sticks together they can clear out a treasure room and get all pots in almost no time at all.  They can also, if all involved get all pots in no time at all.  Games in which have this dynamic go almost as fast and often faster than the one person clearing ahead because in half the games either the guys running ahead get downed or the people left to do the chests get downed.  A full team makes mince meat of Revenants or horrors on almost any level.

It's actually fun to be a participant in the killing so this idea of 'Oh i'll go ahead and kill all the stuff and you guys can get the pots' puts me off big time.  If you want to just kill stuff, if you don't care about the treasure either play solo or play with a like minded team.

You obviously have not been exposed to the trauma of xbox live voice chatting over the past 12 years.  Voice chatting was used exclusively for trash talking to complete strangers or being very annoying.  Now most people don't even bother with the voice chat because of it.  So unless I have been playing with you for a while I have absolutely nothing to say to you, just do your job and open the damn door.

PS4 users are generally older as well. The group I run with is all later 20s and 30s. We have hilarious conversations and I must admit its quite enjoyable. I definitely meet people that annoy me. Trash talk is fine if its funny.. if youre an insecure dude that has to tell me every time you get a kill, youll be deleted.. .lol.

Anyway, we shouldnt need to debate it..But I run ahead because when I take my level 1 person into routine.. everything dies quickly... its only because I play entirely too much DAMP..However, I dont run ahead, agro a room I cant handle, and then let everyone die.. I do sometimes run ahead, kill everything and come back for rooms.

The real question is.. why do you like stopping at rooms so much? The reason why you are upset with the players that run ahead is because they dont treat it like a MP game. They treat it like SP. That is always annoying.. so the topic should read: people who are morons that play MP...

they aren't worth it, they are no fun, the bosses sometimes can kill the whole party, you can get more money from the objectives and gold nug, get more exp so you can do threatening and get more gold etc.

Pick one.

I would like to add that my group does in fact stop at FREE doors and we break pots since they dont glitch like before. To the guy that got the Longbow of the Griffon.. You may have had 10 more chests if you speed run.. and maybe that had a great weapon as well.

It is all about context. There is still some gear I want but I have almost every weapon so my incentive is lower. Currently, I have 150K saved... so obviously I dont really care to stop. I care much more about completions with my characters.

On threatening, Arcane Horror and Revenant are push overs. If they kill you, you're either a Rouge class, you made stupid mistake or you're level 1. Perilous is a different story but the "secret bosses" are a poor excuse to skip out on that SWEET 46 GOLD!

"Sweet 46 gold" being sarcasm but still, the secret room bosses shouldn't be the reason your team wipes...

Skipping doors can fit into one of many strategies. Although I am not sure it matter, I want to preface by saying that I play with an awesome group of guys. The majority of the guys are 300-450 prestige (not noobs).

When I play, I prefer to get completions and skip the doors unless it is a completely free chest. I prefer to skip the doors because I have almost all the gear I want. Completions on perilous and for the different classes are more valuable to me than stopping at doors. Also, speed running will net more experience and almost the same gold (because skipping 8 rooms saves quite a bit of time).

I also prefer to clear the board first and go back to chests. Hit streaks are higher netting more TEAM EXPERIENCE. I often play as a keeper or barrier/elementalist. For me, it isnt about kill streaks. But for the team experience it is about kill streaks.

That being said, I ALWAYS use my mic and tell the group I am playing with that I will stop at doors if that is the preference of ANYONE in the group. I have a preference but rarely force it on someone. On the rare instance I run routine, I hate stopping because I get almost no gold for stopping at a doors.. but again.. I still stop.

So I think lots of "pros" prefer skipping them. Lots of pros prefer stopping... and lots of noobs want to get kills so they rush through and dont respect your preference.

Just kindly ask them to stop. If they dont, go with the flow and do not stop either or find a group that respects your preference.

Just an fyi medals only award xp to the player that got them.

Sweet zombie jesus, I don't get why people keep debating this. Some people want to open doors, some don't. Some people playing xbox, some people play playstation. It isn't a right or wrong, it's all preference. Stop trying to convince us that it is more efficient to skip doors and speed run, we do not care. No one should care because it does not matter. A match lasts 20 minutes at worst, don't like how the group plays? Go find another group or play with friends, no harm done.
