I haven't read all the responses, but if you are in an experienced group where everyone already has every item of value, then the doors become pointless as extra gold is not needed .. what is needed for the complete manifest people are character promotions for more juicy bonuses (mostly willpower and cunning) .. opening treasure rooms simply slow that down.

I was playing a perilous pug last night with 3 people who were obviously friends, they were all sporting the 250 perilous completions banner. In our first match I opened a treasure door and got lectured by them for that lol.

After a certain point, power leveling is far more important than gold.

Your opinion vs my opinion.

Want to Power level stay the hell out of routine. Go play threating/perilous w/ the die hard no lifers.

Those of us that play very little are playing for all the items/gold in routine and we don't want any epeen jerks coming in trying to act like routine is perilous and speeding thru. Specially when they got all the top gear....Go solo, not my problem you can't find a party and play a higher level, but I don't need your punk ass in my routine game ruining it for me.

So you wanna powerlevel, skip all the doors and gold pots....GO SOLO!

I expect others to open doors while I clear. I'm not the only (class). Only one person needs to open doors and smash pots. The rest can move on. Maximize your time.

Agreed. On Routine especially, there is no need for four or even three people to enter a treasure room unless you've got some brand spankin new people. And I'm equally happy continuing clearing ahead as I am opening the treasure rooms while others continue on.

I only get annoyed when the three other people feel like they need to all be there to watch while I clear a room (especially the rooms with the free chest).

I usually go with the flow, if the rest of the group wants to press forward I'm okay with it, but if I had the choice I'd stop to pick up gold. It's not that big of a time sink, and it makes for a nice break from killing mobs. If someone rushes ahead I usually don't mind, as long as they're capable enough to keep themselves alive while facing the mobs alone.

But if said player waits until we've killed the Revenant just to teleport us to the next door before we open the chest... then my cold hatred will roll over you with the force of a Swedish winter. (I'll probably also angrily twin stab you a couple'a times in the back, just so you'll know where we stand.)

Playing routine all the time thinking you will have an easier time is a poor way of thinking. You will die *more* and level slower on routine because it attracts more newbs that don't know what they're doing. Nobody has gear. I stopped routine on day 2 because it's just a trap. The couple days I played Routine, wipes were actually a frequent thing.

Seriously, it is easier to just play threatening at the very least, you will more often than not just blow through the zones way quicker, the players actually understand how the fights work and are usually geared a little better.

I know that in theory skipping the rooms is more efficient, but I play at odd hours, so it's rare that I can get a group of friends together.  This means that most of the time the lobby I'm in dissolves after one or two matches and I have to go back to matchmaking.  On a good day, that doesn't delay me too much but on a bad one, the matchmaking can be so bad that it's simply not worth it.

That is why I prefer getting every scrap of gold, because spending five extra minutes doing that is more consistently rewarding for me than lobby-hopping.

Just an fyi medals only award xp to the player that got them.

All experience is divided between the number of players at the end of the match. You are referring to the final score, which does not equal the experience awarded.

I won't stay with a group if they ignore treasure rooms, I want my money.

If people really want to speed run, they're going about it the wrong way by going through pubs. Go find some geared players and go speed run in private games. Killing each group of mob 1 at a time isn't even "efficient". You're supposed to drag everything to the back and aoe if you want your 10min perilous runs.

Personally, I'll play the game how I find it fun. As long as there is loot that I need, I'm going to open those doors and chests. I'm not trying to reach #1 on the leaderboards so what's an extra 5 mins to me?

I just follow the group, you usually find out what kind of party you're with by the first treasure room. If they are not a treasure room group i usually change lobbies after the run.  I needs mah golds!

So you guys are reading the forums? How about an update on the first real dlc?

You definitely gain more XP/minute by speedrunning and ignoring doors. Once you have played the game long enough you will realize that XP is more valuable than Gold - and by speedrunning you still earn Gold nevertheless.
Had I known this piece of information from day one would have helped me significantly.

As many have already responded, clearing out the treasure rooms just really isn't worth the time investment.  Why waste time clearing those when you'll get better experience, nearly the same gold, and have more fun (assuming you prefer fighting) by skipping them?  It seems like an easy choice to me.

That said, I spend a lot of time playing pub matches and I find it rude to skip rooms if the host wants to clear them.  I tend to go by the host's rules.  If they want to clear every room, I'll generally follow along.  When I'm hosting or playing with friends we'll only grab free rooms - and not even those for the ones with chests in out of the way spots.

People who spam "Come here!" over and over get ignored though, or kicked if with friends.  Once is fine but if you hit it 4+ times in a row that's just obnoxious.

I am on the cusp of that point.

However, it is not true of everyone. It is only true of players who have reached a certain point in unlocking their manifests.

Applying something that is only true of yourself and a percentage of other players to everyone is not helpful. Gold is more valuable to people with newer manifests. At the early stages, acquiring better weapons is far more important than leveling kits.

Again, this not true for most newer players. And while skipping them may be more fun for you, there are plenty of people for whom clearing the treasure rooms is both strategic and fun.

I follow the group around , if we're killing everything finger in the nose , I stop and pick gold up if no one else is doing it.

But honestly picking gold up and cleaning treasure room isn't all that thrilling , one of the best pug I had lately was in perillous with a Legionnaire and a Keeper who just rushed the whole thing. No time to stop .

At first I was surprised but I didn't miss waiting around the treasure room for someone to open , or seeing one guy going in the treasure room , another going in another direction , and player ending up dead.

I'm pretty new to this mp but if I'm doing routine I would like the team to open all treasure rooms. If playing threatening I just go with the flow when considering treasure rooms but pots I'll try to get as much as I can. I still need gold to get my manifest better but I'm not too obsessed about it.

About people running forward destroying everything alone, whatever it gives me time to make sandwich and enjoy the show :P

I don't get why you wouldn't open treasure rooms, I can actually understand not breaking pots, though that annoys me and I often lag behind doing the smashing. But you can get purples from those chests, not very often, but its happened to me twice.

Though the ones that really get me is, sure, you don't open up the doors, but you have three people that are, we even blasted through the map and are going back, and then you activate the next door, I've had a chest open and was just about to collect its contents when someone did this, and the entire team yelled at them, next area, same exact thing happens. In the third area, we let them go ahead and die.

Possibly.

There are different types of lobbies and, based on my little experience pugging, those who ignore Treasure Rooms are a minority. Also, they are experienced players who know what they are doing. My advice to beginners is to take the advantage of playing with them and do quick games one after the other. I doubt they will be losing much Gold/Minute anyway, while earning more XP/Minute and getting to see how experienced players do.

In case they don't like the fast-paced gameplay, quitting and looking for a different lobby would be my suggestion then. Spamming F4 and opening doors so that Revenants can backstab the whole team by surprise is exactly not the right thing to be done, but we all can expect that to continue being the pugging norm.

When in pugs, do as the pugs do.  Things just go a lot easier that way.

I agree strongly with this.Everything else leads to frustration and creating more treads on BSN.

yesterday I was in a pug with two other players - and it was confusing ... sometimes they stopped to open the doors, sometimes they just ran past them (so you don't always know if it's speedrunning or not). I think I used the "come here" once (my mic doesn't seem to work on DAMP :? ) but then I just tagged along, collected coins here and there and leveled up my Hunter on 4 enjoyable threatening matches (and YES: pugs can be enjoyable!)

Yeah and then each player is awarded xp for thier individual medals. Play a match where everyone is lvl 1 with 0 xp at the start, when you get back to the lobby the player(s) that got more and/or higher tier medals will be further into thier current level or even be a level ahead of everyone else.

After some time you know which doors are "free loot" because they never spawn an enemy and have the chest just right next to the entrance. Even speed runners tend to pick up those.

it was still inconsistent: the AW opened 2 barrier-doors which were quite close together and in one of these was indeed a revenant

Like the folk who post vids of completing Skyrim in 2.5 minutes.

Truly what is the point...
