Sten: Where are your horns?

Then DA2 came out with the Qunari playing a hugh role in the storyline. Now suddenly they have giant horns (much like an ogre or pride demon). They even go as far as to refer to them a "Hornheads". Why the sudden redesign? How come Sten didn't have horns on DAO?
Of the four races in the DA games (humans, elves, dwarfs & Qunari), the Qunari are the only ones that have had a significant change...

The artstyle change when it comes to elves was huge (and another big one came from DA:2 to DA:I, so that now they again look like people not poorly drawn anime fairies), so the last line is not true...
And no, Sten doesn't have horns, a small percentage of Qunari is born hornless. They're supposedly seen as having some special destiny or something. I'm not a fan, in fact I don't think I know a lot of people who actually ARE fans... but the lore states that that's the case, with Sten being one of the hornless ones. Oh, and supposedly the Qunari were supposed to have horns from the very beginning, but they worked around it due to technical limitations.

Thank you for the reply..
You are correct, the elves do have a different 'look' to them from DAO to DA2, but they are still petite with pointy ears. The Qunari change is significant...
Now my question is was this 'hornless' lore in place from the beginning or just after the game designers decided to slap together DA2?

Sten was originally supposed to have horns, but they couldn't get helmets to work with them, so they inserted hornlessness into the lore before Origins was released.

Sten would have been a cooler character with horns...
how so?

Um, hello? Horns! Could only have been an improvement on his otherwise dull personality.
I can't believe they created an entire 'hornless' lore just to fit a hemet. Saying some Qunari don't have horns is like saying some elves don't have pointy ears or some dwarfs are tall...

Hornless qunari aren't seen has having a special destiny, they are seen as being imposing or scary so many of them end up with roles were that would be beneficial.
Some qunari have more than 2 horns and there is a lot of variation in horn style.
I think it's an interesting thought experiment, horns are imposing to us only because we don't have any, if we all had horns then maybe not having horns would be imposing.
Also there is nothing supposedly about the original plan to give Sten horns, it has been confirmed, they wanted Sten to have them but couldn't make it work with the helmet system they had in place for DA:O, so they came up with a lore reason for him not to have any and then gave us horned Qunari in DA2.

It's a suggestion that you're being insincere and insulting Sten just to get a rise out of people.
A suggestion I personally think is a bit premature. ![]()

Okay, okay... Certainly not insincere, but may have been a little insulting to Sten fans.
Lots of people have lots of different opinions about DA characters, I was merely conveying my humble opinion... My apologies to those who would demand that Sten remain hornless

No worries. People call "Troll" (an internet term for someone who likes to infuriate and/or frustrate others enough that they go out of their way to do so, even so far as to say a lot of things they don't think) really quickly sometimes...Which is understandable, because Trolls are also really common. They pop up on the BSN all of the time.
I don't think you are one, btw, but sometimes people will be inclined to think that if they see you openly disparage a character (especially one they like). People are sometimes very protective of their favorites. ![]()

I've also read some threads by these so-called "Trolls"... things seem to get escalated pretty quick. I try not to get involved even if I strongly disagree with that person.

Poor hornless bastard, i bet they sent him off to Fereldan because he was a freak to them too..

This is probably me reading too much into things with hindsight, but since Sten was sent to Ferelden to observe, it seems he'd be more successful without horns. Horns would make him stand out and might change how people act around him. Hornless Qunari like Sten and his compatriots in the Beresaad (who you see in the Fade) would be better envoys if the Qunari want to draw as little attention as possible. It seems as good an explanation as any, given that the helmet thing threw a wrench in the original plans.
