Do people, melee guys in particular like when this ability is cast or does it make it tougher on you?  I use it in a serial fashion when playing AW and find it just great at crowd control, especially on the tougher levels.  However I'm never quite sure in the tanks or melee guys are going 'Great! they are all pulled I can go in and lay waste!"  or if they are going "I hate that thing, I can't see a thing and it is tougher to target things!"

What say all of you melee masters?  Appreciate it cast often or not?

PotA is pretty much all-around awesome. It neutralizes most enemies, allows for excellent set-ups of fade cloak, fire mine and static cage, and places all the mobs in a single spot so melee can hack away. So yeah, it's pretty much always appreciated.

Unless you use it to troll and pull enemies away from a poor lonely Lego just trying to get a piece. <_<

I like it for my katari CB->MB combo and for mutli-hits with payback strike.

Two words: Wrath Purge

As such, Templar LOVERS PotA. Makes my 3-4 kill streak combo go to a 7-8 kill streak combo.

As a Reaver, the less I have to chase down and claw the easier life is so....

It is most awesome.  As mentioned above, this is the cat's ass for Templar combo, Reaver/Katari Mighty Blow.

If no AW in team, I love that this can proc on Sulevin blade, and makes my life a whole lot easier when I can trash a nicely bundled mob.

#Appreciate that!

I hate it when I'm playing an assassin. It bugs out sometimes, and I never end up being able to hit anything. I also hate the fact that I can't see.

Hate is probably too strong a word now I think about it.

Anything that clumps enemies is a good thing. Rampage is better when you aren't chasing enemies for half the duration.

Definitely a favorite! I love using it and other people using it. Nothing better than pulling all enemies towards a Legionnaire while whispering "here you go, little guy" and watch him generate full guard/hack'n'slash at all the enemies conveniently bundled up around him.

It's a great power for a full team game, helps many other classes inflict heavy damage (Hi Templar vs Demons!) (Hi Reaver vs anyone) (Hi Elementalist vs anyone) (Hi .. you get the idea)

Sadly it is not a power for an optimal AW solo build

I've played with DrKilledbyDeath but he's the only forum member I've run across. Lately, I spend more time here than I do in game. Having a hard time staying interested but excited to see what they might, maybe one day do.

I don't see how anyone would hate it. It's an aoe cc. Melee would love it because it pulls everything together so that they can cleave maybe 10 mobs at a time.

Not to mention actually having to run towards a large group of mobs is very risky as you'll get shot down in perilous and die immediately. You would normally have to pull them around a corner so that the archers won't insta gib you.

As an assassin, your goal is 100% threat reduction via flanking. Static cage makes mobs face different directions, making it hard to maintain that position. I don't mind it for the group but I stay away and pick off the mobs that don't get caught in it.

I was liking it alright until somewhat recently and I'm not sure if it's lag on my end, if it's being cast too early, or what...but AW would throw up PotA, the mobs would start drifting toward it, I'd charge in expecting some good CLOBBERIN' TIME! only to have them all suddenly pop up behind me or in weird other places, dodging my Charging Bull attempts and creating some mayhem of their own because they'd pop out of PotA and be really close to the ranged with their ranged right in my face pewpewing for all their worth. So...no guard from CB plus arrows to face equals Ow for pretty much the whole team except sub 'squishes plus unexpected melee equals Ow.'

But when it works, it's like a dream. Especially when I was waving around my beloved Boon of the Spoon because explosions.

I actually really like it on assassin.  I whittle down one mook with a couple autostabs to under half health, then execute the whole clump of guys with an AOE deathblow.

Lets go through the list.

Lego-For me creates the perfect set up, lunge and slash, hits nearly everyone, followed by payback strike and then just hack and slash, got Caliban, so everything gets hit and any kills I get, bam, healed.

Katari-Charge, full guard, mighty blow.... well then, anything left over is in perfect swing range, and if I time it right, warhorn just as it wears off, so even if they jump forward as happens with PotA they're panicked.

Reaver-Rampage!!!!!!!

Templar- Wrath Purge.... enough said, also, unbowed=full guard

Hunters and alchemist can lay down toxic cloud, mine can also toss in a knockout bomb

Assassins would be about the only char that I can think of that wouldn't love PotA, and even then, they have abilities that can take advantage of it such as flank attack.

I would like,if all AW would cast it non-stop.

PotA  is one of more awesome skills in the game.

I hate it - messes up hitboxes and puts you in inexplicable danger on laggy hosts - but when I see a static cage going up I'm going in for melee.

Basically, when I see an AW, I just let them do their thing and secretly hope they bleed out.

Pull of the Abyss can help almost every character, depending upon how the character is built.

  • Alchemist -- Mines! Or Toxic Cloud.
  • Archer -- Long Shot (with upgrade). Instant killstreak.
  • Assassin -- Deathblow has a small arc on it so can hit the clustered targets for massive damage.
  • Elementalist -- Stonefist for the combo. Or take the opportunity to drop a Fire Wall or Firestorm.
  • Hunter -- Long Shot like the Archer, or Mines like the Alchemist, or Toxic Cloud.
  • Katari -- Charging Bull + Mighty Blow the entire crowd for instant killstreak. Delicious.
  • Keeper -- Veilstrike or another detonator, for crazy combos.
  • Legionnaire -- Payback Strike hits in an arc. Potential for multiple crits... Flow of Battle... reduce cooldowns.
  • Necromancer -- Walking Bomb will turn the cluster of enemies into chunky salsa, stealing all the kills.
  • Reaver -- Rampage + Dragon Rage and tear into everyone. Or Mighty Blow like the Katari.
  • Templar -- Wrath/Purge... not that the enemies needed to be that close, though.

^ Agreed. PotA alone makes an AW worth having in a team, even if its some confused AW without spirit blade.
