So I don't expect this to stay up long before a bioware mod locks it, hopefully they do not delete this but I just want to remind everyone this section will contain both fans, and angry fans of the dragon age series.

Passion leads one to praise or criticize the game they are playing. Obviously, this means at some point you will find a view that you do not share yourself. It is important that we do not resort to attacking the person behind the view point.

What generally happens when someone posts a genuine feedback, whether "Wow I loved this!" or "Wow, what?" you will find argumentative posts or supportive of that viewpoint. The goal of that post should be to promote a discussion that points out the strengths and weaknesses of such a post.

But it's a trend on the BSN and it's always been it seems, that you get very.. aggressive posters that have to go out of their way to belittle a person instead of their view. What this does, is derail or deny others the chance to argue the strengths or weaknesses in that post.

You have to remember people are people on these forums. You attack them, and they attack you, with nasty little words that are shielded by the anonymity of the internet. Hurt pride or vengeance on these threads denies your chance to see good features implemented in the next game or conversely, if not all opinions are counted against a certain feature you dislike, it will be in the next game.

The pendulum swings both ways too.. Not trying to say you have to be "NICE" to other people but, at least try to attack the argument instead of the person next time ya post.

Lock asap?

A good point well made, I hope this thread can stay bumped for a little while until it is locked, runs out of steam or is disrupted.

Personally I believe passive-aggressive arguments, playing the victim card and stubbornly repeating yourself over and over again with "I love the game, I am having lots of fun and you must be doing it wrong" is at least as bad as a personal attack.

What annoys me even more are people converging on feedback threads like a murder of crows. Someone posts a thread about a negative experience with the game (bugs, crashes, gameplay issues, UI, controls) and then people respond with "That's not an issue, you need to adapt. Use a controller. I don't have any problems, the game is excellent fun and it's the best ever." Or the opposite. Someone posts a thread about positive experiences and people respond with "How can you like this piece of crap? It's just a huge mess, how dare you have fun?!"

Seriously, that's not contributing anything to the discussion and is condescending, insulting and aggravating. NOT posting is an option. There is no reason to plaster your opinion all over the forum, to try to force your views on others. Certaintly not by rehashing the same tired, old arguments.

Yes, I'm guilty of doing these things myself now and then. Doesn't mean this behaviour is constructive.

This is the feedback forum, people post their honest opinions here about the game and antagonistic game defenders come here and try to reduce the credibility of the posters with passive aggressive provocations. Then they act offended when people bite back. It's a good tactic and it works.

In the end it's not helping anyone however because none of it is constructive.

Well said OP, Daemion and Iuism.

Out of curiosity, posting Cersei's gif as a response to a stupid argument is still ok tho, right? :D

I feel you on that,on a recent thread, a poster I found regularly doing those things daemonian was lept on and attacked in a mob mentality. Yeah I didn't like their posts but it just felt too aggressive. Die hard fans or angry fans are capable of hurting their own cause too unfortunately for everyone.

This is what I referred too before the quote. I did that too and the trend was that thread got locked. I am especially guilty of that.

I think what the defenders here do not get is that we all have one thing in common. We all love this franchise. Criticism can help us all in the end. It's called communication. Yes some people take it too far and start hurling insults and threats and dumb stuff but that's what mods are for. People with a non anonymous board presence and a decent post count usually don't indulge in such behavior unless you catch them on a bad day.

I'll stop using fan boy if it offends what I mean is the staunch defenders.

That would be kind. I probably have 'defensive tendencies' and I absolutely get the point you made that the vast majority of those concerned or deeply upset are only here because of their love for what the franchise is, or used to be.

The point about moderation is also a good one.

People can lose their temper occasionally, I certainly have, so I would hope the mods deal swiftly but only temporarily with those who cross the line (unless hate becomes totally irrational and all-consuming).

If you are talking about E... who-should-not-be-named... well. Yes, I call him out when his arguments are more trolling than constructive but I never attack him personally. Others might do that, I don't. I really, really can't fault them for that, because that is what he's aiming for. Then he plays the victim and the mods suspend people and close the thread.

Btw... telling someone you don't like the way they try to derail discussions is not a personal attack.

Too many people see their opinion as being fact, not surprising it turns into personal insults & arguments

I can't say I've ever felt the compulsion to aggressively defend a game that I enjoy from the criticisms of those who don't.

I could honestly care less what anyone else other than me does or doesn't enjoy. And that includes women I have sex with.

I never start out trying to be aggressive, I just sometimes get worked up, especially if I feel like I'm being attacked >.< I think I've been getting better though. I've been trying to at least.

And actually, if someone you usually disagree with says something sensible (for a change),

'like' their post - it really helps to break antagonism.

Indeed (nicely said OP). Everyone has a valid opinion on their experiences with the game, and they're all worth sharing as feedback for the devs.

If someone criticizes an aspect of the game, it's good to converse with them, rather than instantly resort to assuming they "did something wrong".

If someone likes the game, it's good to ask them why that was so, rather than state that they "are thinking wrong"

Regardless of whether or not we all liked or disliked the game, I think we can all agree there's always something that can be improved for next time ^.^ I think that's a good place to focus energies.
