She gets so much hate for being ignorant.

Thats debatable, some people just act with outrage that she's pro people instead of being pro elf, not surprising she's close minded towards Dalish when people like Solas & the Inquisitor can pretty much criticise her for not behaving in the "correct way" for an elf

The thing is she says "people are people" but she treats only elves with a certain level of disgust.

Not really disgust, is more dislike towards "traditional" elves who are stuck in the past instead of thinking of the present/future

I wouldn't call Sera ignorant, I suppose she doesn't go out of her way to learn about the dalish but it's not like the dalish really try to learn about city elves either, they just look down their noses at them. She can be intolerant though.

Disgust, dislike. Same difference. Not everyone has to agree on the same things, everyone is different. It's just how people handle the differences that makes the impression. It just seems that most of the time Sera just plugs her ears shouting "lalalalalalalala!" to anything remotely elvish.

Not saying that Dalish don't do that either btw.

I don't actually think she does. First playthrough (that's when I just play without considering "social tactics"), I was an elf. I met her, knew nothing about her, and just treated her normally. I did not tell her "Nice to meet other elves" because it's nothing I would do in real life. It's so... "You are cool because you are from the same region as me", it's not a compliment to appreciate somebody for where s/he is from. In fact I feel it displays ignorance regarding the individual in front of you. The question itself did not sit right with me, so I did not ask it. And so on. In short, if you refrain from pressing her to acknowledge your heritage she will be fine around you. I got her to maximum approval and the cookie scene without trying hard.

It's like real life. Sometimes you don't get along with somebody, but you should not require him to change because of that.

Last night I spent a lot of time in the Hissing Wastes with Sera and Solas (and Iron Bull) and I heard and earful from Sera about her dislike of "elfy-ness". She was really mean to Solas a lot too! Wonder if he flirted with her when I wasn't looking and she's taking it out on him.  :P

I see where Sera's coming from with her dislike of the Dalish and elfiness in general. She's experienced a lot of rejection in her life, and much of it likely tied to her heritage, a heritage she doesn't feel any particular connection to. However I do think that she has a lot of growing up to do. She's rather emotionally immature, and she deals with her fears by either ignoring them or lashing out. She doesn't like thinking about big-picture stuff, so she doesn't. But as someone with power, a person heading an (albeit loose) organization of people who are sometimes even killed because of the red jennies' actions, she needs to learn that things are more complex than she'd prefer to believe.

Just to be clear, I adore Sera. She's like the bratty little sister my Inquisitor never had. They clashed sometimes, but I felt very close to her nevertheless. I don't think I could ever bring myself to romance her, though. She's very sweet, but she acts so childish that even the thought kinda creeps me out.

To be honest, I can't believe the Solas romance is the most popular. The guy destroys all you thought about your people in a matter of seconds and removes, if you let him, that thing that you thought made you Dalish.

And then, as if that wasn't enough, he breaks up with you. Because yeah, destroying your cultural identity apparantly isn't good enough.

Ehh, I think you're mischaracterizing the scene. One of the things Solas values most is freedom of choice. He does set out with the intention of telling the Inquisitor the truth about himself (because she deserves to know and he wants to prove how much she means to him), but he chickens out at the last moment. Instead, though, he still gives her a gift that he finds very meaningful; the truth about the vallaslin, and the choice to keep them or not. He is not "destroying your cultural identity", he is giving you the option to decide what your cultural identity means to you personally. My Inquisitor, for instance, chose to keep the vallaslin, saying that they are an important part of her, no matter what they once meant. And he accepts this without judgement, because the choice was hers, and his gift was the ability to make it.

disclaimer: ignoring Weeks' explanation on the matter. You, the female Elf romancing Solas, can not possibly know this.

True, the Inquisitor doesn't know why he ended the relationship, but it's pretty clear that it really hurt him to do it, and that there's some sort of extenuating circumstance involved. My Lavellan was way more worried than angry after seeing his reaction after the final battle.

That made me laugh way, way more than it should.

Also OP: she's lesbian. Lesbians tend to reject men. The audicity, am I right? ;)

Assuming the OP is serious, I find it more likely that he's talking about politeness than the act of rejection alone.

If a straight male tells a gay guy to **** off just because he flirted with him everyone loses their minds, don't they?

Manners is something that goes both ways. As for Sera, I can't really judge since I don't know what her response was.

So before jumping in the game , ya didnt read that there will be one lesbian and one gay companions ,at all ?

No, I did not want to bump into spoilers.

Also, the previous games always had bisexual romance options in it. I did not assume Bioware would restrict so much the romance like they did in Inquisition.

I paid dearly for these assumptions of mine, but I learned my lesson. If the next game - or DLC - lack any desireable romance options, I am simply not going to buy it.

Very much. Like, gimme mai flamethrower much.

For not being a sheep in the herd.

Nope. You need to know only when (and IF) you try to, err... make advances. If you don't, nobody even needs to (and nobody may actually find out, I can't remember.. although, bard Maryden trying stuff...) that Sera only goes for girls.

So, your point is : I am a man, I did hit on Sera. She cringed at me and kept being that egocentric **** she is. Yet you think I am wrong for having MY feelings hurt?

Gosh, you even think I need some sort of physical punishment for simply having feelings, wow.

And no, she isn't especial. She is just a cheap thug with a lot of plot armor and no explanation on why she haven't been assassinated yet by some random orlesian noble.

What's most disturbing is : your kind is very easy to find these days.

The best way to know you're making the right decision in any given situation is if Sera disapproves.

LMAO totally

But would you believe she is very contradictory on her beliefs and policies? I simply can't stand her.

The only reason I'm keeping her around is because my guts tell me she will try to commit a crime and then I'll judge her properly.

I did not record myself, but someone else did.

He is what he/she have to show :

I am pretty sure the developers had something in mind which was much worse, but someone had the wisdom to change it to something - arguably - not as harsh.

Hold up, this is what you're up in arms about?

she just looks mildly annoyed if anything.

I'm kind of disappointed...

That is possibly the cutest male Inquisitor I've seen yet. Dang.

As for what Sera says...it seems like a pretty mild brush-off to me. Sucks that you got your feelings hurt but, uh, it ain't that bad.

No, but she doesn't go with the rest of the herd, like a brainless zombie.

Are you serious or are you playing dumb?

Blackwall : a warden whom didn't receive the "calling" during the game

Iron Bull : a qunari mercenary/spy who's into BDSM

Solas : a bald elf whom knows "fade magic"

Varric : a dwarf with no beard and the only repeating crossbow in Thedas

Dorian : Fred Mercury incarnated as a mage

Vivienne : an orlesian mage snob NOT angry/disapproving of the Chantry politics

Cole : need I say anything?

Cassandra : a noblewoman who'd rather endanger herself than live as a Navarran heir

Scout Harding : a DWARF scout. Seriously, dwarves sucks at scouting, this is why we have halflings.

Sera : a lesbian elf whom killed orlesians nobles, excels at archery and survived the game in Orlais, but can't form a proper sentence, or learn dalish.

This game have too many weird characters in a single spot. There's nothing of "herd" in this game, all of them are unnecessarily uncommon in their traits.

It's like they hired fanfiction people to make the damn script.

Take a hard look at the game's companions and answer me this :

- Is this group of characters any normal?

Yeah, exactly.

When most would just be againist the Inquisition, because it was the thing the herd would do. She is not the only such person in the Inquisition, yet she gets the hate for it!

It's what happens when you are an obnoxious ****.

The only one that contends on her level of ignorance is Vivienne, but it seems that she is a lot more professional about it.

It is true that there is no one like Sera...but perhaps that's a good thing.

The problem with her isn't that she's rude as ****, it's the reaction my Inquisitor can have with her.

There were times that I wondered : where the hell is the *slap her* option here?

My inquisitor is simply too complacent with situations like that. I thought that the title meant someone whom didn't take **** from anyone, but that's simply not true.

This is one of the interesting things in this game :

homosexuals is accepted and it's common in Thedas - which isn't remotely possible, due to evolutive matters -

Black people are never questioned or mocked due to their skin color, no real racism at all - which doesn't makes no damn sense why so much skin color diversity in Thedas -

Orlesian nobles are open-minded enough to have affairs and lovers and play "the game" , yet no one bats an eye about it

But OLD GODS FORBID YOU'RE AN ELF! Prepare to suffer all sorts of mistreatments, bigottry, rape, violence, dehumanizing crimes, humiliations and yada, yada, yada!

Yet, Sera still thinks elves are close-minded people... Wow.
