You can easily play as a female & romance Sera you know

I don't like playing as female characters, it feels that I am fooling myself.

So, I always roll some sort of male character. Also, not even if I were a lesbian would I date Sera, she is a despicable being of all sorts.

In real life, people with that sort of attitude are reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally toxic. I would strongly suggest anyone venturing with Sera-like people to be very, very, very cautious.

You're trolling right?

She was raised by a noblewoman like she was her own child, while all the other elves had to live in alienages, slums.

No, I am not trolling here.

Have you finished the game yet and completed all dialogue with Sera?

That is possibly the cutest male Inquisitor I've seen yet. Dang.

As for what Sera says...it seems like a pretty mild brush-off to me. Sucks that you got your feelings hurt but, uh, it ain't that bad.

If it was REAL LIFE, I'd say to myself : "Meh... Well, **** happens. Sometimes the woman is a lesbian, I'll just move on." At most, I'd feel kinda bad about it, would pass in one day at most.

But that was a game script.

Let's say you are going to eat a cupcake. When you are about to bite the cupcake, it says while cringing :

"You are one creepy man, not gonna happen. Now put me down, ******."

Point is : it hurts a lot more when something not even human rejects you. I can't explain in words, really...

Also : if every food in the universe was like Sera, humanity would be starving.

Disgust, dislike. Same difference. Not everyone has to agree on the same things, everyone is different. It's just how people handle the differences that makes the impression. It just seems that most of the time Sera just plugs her ears shouting "lalalalalalalala!" to anything remotely elvish.

Not saying that Dalish don't do that either btw.

She dislikes elves who play the victim card and feel bad for themselves day in and day out. She says this multiple times.

Just being an elf has no bearing on her opinion of someone.

How do you even know this? I don't think she tells you if you have such bad standing with her.

It wouldn't be, provided my inquisitor had the means to teach her a lesson. Instead, they thought it would be more interesting to give me very few action on how to deal with assholery from companions.

It's like being forced to be civilized with people whom you wouldn't be in the inquisitor's position. How would you like that?

No. He's annoyed because he paid money for that game and does not get exactly the sort of satisfaction from a particular woman that he wants. (You might or might not wish to compare to real life.) And now he simply feels the need to tell us how horrible, ugly, and stupid she is as a person. Yet, she managed to hurt him deeply.
Never mind him. He's probably harmless.

Right... because romance, which takes up about 5 minutes of the game at best, is the most important reason to play a game that is 80+ hours long. ;)

Allow me to make a sweeping generalisation about men. Subtly can sometimes be lost on them and politely declining can be mistaken for playing hard to get. Maybe Sera has tried the "sorry I only like women" approach before only to be met by a defiant look that says "challenge accepted".

[Disclaimer: as stated above this comment is a generalisation and is not representative of my opinion of all men]

To be honest I think a polite rejection can be worse. Cassandra giving my female Trevelyan (sp?) the can we just be friends talk was harsh even though it was completely civil. (I knew she was straight but my inquisitor didn't and I'm a fan of unrequited love stories.)

except that Sera is neither subtle in general nor particularly bright, so i doubt its some sophisticated techniques she's come up with to deal with pushy men, if anything -she- is the pushy man who refuses to accept peoples' boundaries, perhaps not romantically but in just about every other area. As Fae said, she is obnoxious, rude and abusive. As for the topic at hand... if serious, op needs to seek help.

The problem with her isn't that she's rude as ****, it's the reaction my Inquisitor can have with her.

There were times that I wondered : where the hell is the *slap her* option here?

My inquisitor is simply too complacent with situations like that. I thought that the title meant someone whom didn't take **** from anyone, but that's simply not true.

There are instances where you can tell Sera to grow up, that Red Jenny doesn't really help anyone, that her business is petty and criminal, and ultimately kick her out.

I'll never understand why some gamers act like such spoiled children.

actually i think she does have some internalised racism, i find it harder to get approval from her as an elf. She disapproves if you mention wanting to improve the status of your people. Her reactions are very irrational and rude, for example in the temple of mythal she calls them all kinds of horrible names, even though Abelas freely admits to their flaws. She is also extremely rude and disrespectful in general whenever you come across anything related to elven lore, no matter how innocuous, one example being the letter you find regarding the village of red crossing, her response was very nasty toward the elves, even though it proved that they werent the ones who incited that incident. She wants to pretend that being an elf shouldnt matter, but in reality it does, something she is unwilling to accept, which is likely to explain parts of her volatile behavior whenever the topic comes up. In general she lives in her own little world, a weak and immature character that cant handle reality when it hits them. Just about anything that she doesnt like or agree with she responds to with irrational aggression.

i agree, there are so many funny and satisfying ways to give sera a taste of her own medicine. I love the kicking scenes, and the one where she approaches you at a low approval, with some dramatic bs about how she's had enough, then you can scream at her to take her traitorous a'ss out of skyhold and that if she isnt the hunter then she is going to be the hunted/target and if she ever comes back she got it coming to her.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for romances, particularly for these type of games... you're role-playing a character, so it makes sense that said character finds true love.

But this situation here, is just taking it to extremes.. I mean, before I met Sera, I wasn't going to romance anybody. I was gonna go solo and save Thedas from rifts in the sky.. alone. Don't need boobs, arse and love to do that if nothing catches the attention, if you get my drift.

Point is.. I'm simply dumbstruck that certain individuals feel the need to complain about such trivial concepts.. to the point where they need to get on Twitter to spam about "ugly romance options".

I have my issues with the game, I have expressed these elsewhere. But I could think of much better things to whinge about than romance.. or "so and so" rejected me. Seriously, I thought I was whacked... but people on the BSN actually make me feel sane.

Do not want to argue over this, but I think her "racism" is more along the lines of elves getting the focus, as she disapproves of elf inquisitors being "elfy"/focusing on the dalish stuff and doing stuff that focuses on the elves (Briala with Celene/Briala blackmailing Gaspard is a major thing in this).

Um, that letter about Red Crossing proved that the elves were the ones that instigated it.

So...if you think she's such a deeply terrible person, why do you still feel "bad" that she turned you down? Isn't not liking her a pretty good reason not to feel badly any longer?
