Poison stacking?

I'm really confused by this, because it seems like everyone agrees that poison does not stack, but I've seen Tears of the Dead tick for 3-4k damage. Less than my dagger autoattacks, but still a buttload more damage than the 150-ish per tick that it says on the bottle.

So either it's getting crazily adjusted by my stats (and possibly critting)... or it's stacking. I've seen the threads with the damage formulas, but unless I've missed something, I haven't seen anything specifically dealing with poison.

Anyone know for sure what the poison mechanics are? Does Tears of the Dead work differently than Poisoned Weapons? What about poison granted by Fade-touched Wyvern Scales? Do any of those benefit from dex/crit chance/mighty offense/etc?

Maybe Tears of the Dead is a special case? I don't know personally.

Hmmm, maybe people just aren't using it enough to know its mechanics.

In videos, at least, I've seen very few people carrying Tears of the Dead. Perhaps they see the flat 148 damage and think "eh."

Since it actually does a couple thousand armor-ignoring damage per second, it seems like a decent offensive tonic. After all, you can only carry Mighty Offense Tonic in one slot - might as well carry Tears of the Dead in the second.

It does require lighting veilfire to obtain it, though, so maybe solo rogues aren't picking it up?

Tested it and Tears of the Dead doesn't stack with itself (in SP at least). It also seems to do less than the stated damage, not more.

Unlike all other DoTs in the game, though, it actually ticks once per second instead of once every 2 seconds, and each tick can independently crit (though neither effects on hit nor effects on crit will proc on ticks from Tears of the Dead).

Ah. If it doesn't stack, I suppose it must be modified by my stats. It is odd that it only does 3-4k damage if that's the case, since my base weapon damage is around the same value. Wonder if it's affected by Pincushion too? The last time I used it, it seemed to tick higher as time went by.

I didn't expect my dex to modify the damage of a tonic, but I'm happy that it does. Tears of the Dead saved my life against the Highland Ravager. At the level I fought her, I could almost kill her with Mighty Offense before getting stomped by dragonlings. The Tears gave me enough extra damage to kill her before she summoned a second batch. :D

Tears of the Dead doesn't use weapon damage as its base damage value. It uses its own specific value, which is supposed to be the value listed in the description but in actuality is about 30-40% less.

It is affected by the attacker's other stats, though, including Attack and any damage bonuses from abilities (like the one from Pincushion - though I'm not sure if the ticks from Tears of the Dead count toward Pincushion's attack count).

Yep, I was just saying that its special base value was (at least according to the bottle) numerically similar to my base weapon damage.

But yeah, either its base damage is lower than it says, or it's missing some modifiers that weapon damage does get. Otherwise, it would be ticking for about the same value as an autoattack, rather than half of an autoattack.
