Dont put worlds in my mouth.
I was only expiaining the templars objective was not "kill all mages".
I dont think mages should be treated like in Kirkwall, neither I think they should be free.

It was their goal during the war. They never tried to capture any mages, or arrest them. They tried to kill them. We hear that story again and again in the game from mages who didn't support the rebellion (Minaeve, the elderly mage in the tavern, Connor, Ellendra,...). The only exceptions are mages who were willing to fight for the templars.

appearently a codex in the wastes say that mages were brained if gone temp route. Mostly its a reasonable theory backed up by tge guide (though considered "lesser canon" due to inaccuracies)

Doesnt really change much since the lines are drawn and such

"From what I can tell, the templar supporters are still a minority anywhere else but BSN. Remember, the Templar supporters are still a vocal minority and are only talking because this is the first game which doesn't show the faction bad sides while emphasizing some of their good traits. Wonder how many templar supporters would still exist if they were portrayed negatively in subsequent games or if some of the templar negatives were shown if you side with them, such as some templars refusing to help you if you were a mage or a templar raping an inquisition mage."

Excuse me, but the Templars in Origins (not Awakenings) were, for the most part, decent enough. Cullen was, as was the Knight-Commander, can't think of his name. They were set upon by Abominations and most of them wiped out, but the Knight-Commander still gives the Warden a chance to save those mages and Templars who are still alive.

Templars are essentially jailors.  In any system where there are jailors, you are going to have those in authority who abuse that power. Certainly the Kirkwall Circle is a prime example of what happens when authority looks the other way too long with the minions abuse their charges.  But just as you cannot condemn all mages for the actions of some, it is equally unfair to condemn all Templars for the actions of some.

The question is not whether or not there should be mage prisons--some mages are evil and capable of great destruction. They need to be confined. The question has always been SHOULD ALL MAGES BE IMPRISONED simply for being mages? I think the answer is "no," but I also understand why Templars need to exist in a world where insane mages can ignite entire villages or become Pride Demons.

I agree take Morrigan as an example as cold as she is at times in the story I wouldn't exactly call her evil as she like the rest of your team putting her life on the line to help you swtop the blight. Also Haqwke3's father again I wouldn't say is evil either as he used his magic to trap Corypheus and prevented him from causing some of the chaos he eventually does cause in DAI. Merrill too seems a nice person too if a bit naive

I think I recall something about a note on tumblr a few weeks ago but I didn't really pay attention before this. Will try and post what I can remember from that note. Here is what I can remember:

" To all Red Templars,

I don't think I need to inform you about why we can't fail here. Our master may favor the Venatori for binding the minds of the rebel mages but we are still a force to be reckoned with despite our failure at Therinfal.

Remember, guard those smug bastards as well as you can and watch for Inquisition forces. Perhaps harming the Inquisition will be enough to regain our master's favor.

Knight-Captain Hadily"

That's as far as I can remember. Will try and look for it again.

That note sounds a lot like one in the Emprise in the mining canyon if you go Templar.

But it didn't mention anything about the Venatori.

I recall the poster said it was near a bunch of Red Templars in the Hissing Wastes but it wasn't a codex entry but rather a pop up like the signs in val royeaux

Arent you misremembering this one?

My fellow captains:
You know as well as I do that we can't cut back on the red lyrium we're feeding the soldiers. Considering how many knights we lost in our failure at Therinfal, we're lucky the Master still has a use for us. If He demands a small army of red templars, we will deliver.

The Venatori's spies have seen Inquisitor [name] him-/herself heading toward the Dales. Show him/her we haven't forgotten our brothers and sisters lying dead at Therinfal.

To be fair, alot of the red templar notes are written in a somewhat similiar fashion IIRC. I am actually willing to believe that Archdemon_Urthemiel might be on to something.

No codex from me but Dorian does imply that Venatori did somehow force the mages to join their side.

Go to 2:24.

"They made an offer to your mage rebels to join forces, but I'd bet they didn't leave the outcome to chance".

No, I distinctly remember that the image was in the hissing wastes and apparently was in a red Templar camp in the hissing wastes. Apparently there is also a Venatori version of the note if you side with the mages.

If the Inquisitor sided with the mages...
Fellow Magisters:
We have been given a chance to redeem ourselves after one of our own failed Corypheus at Redcliffe. The dwarven relics in the tombs are instructions on recreating the masterpieces of one of their finest Paragons. They are to be excavated, replicated, and brought back for study. The Elder One is generous to let us prove our worth. We cannot disappoint Him.

Do not spare the slaves. Speed is crucial to our success. Let us set an example to the rest of the Venatori, mages and commoners both, with our obedience to the Elder One's will.

If the Inquisitor sided with the Templars...
Esteemed Magisters:
It shames me to notice bickering among some of you. We perform a great work here. The dwarven relics in the tombs are instructions on replicating the masterpieces of one of their finest Paragons. Lady Calpernia wishes us to retrieve them with all haste, and you know she speaks for the Elder One in all things. He remembers a time when this place was not a blasted wasteland, and if He desires its secrets brought up to the light, we shall obey. Gladly. Without strife that delays us.

I trust this will no longer be a concern.

You should also remember that the Venatori perform some type of ritual on the rebel mages in Leliana's version of the Investigate Redcliffe castle mission. Also, you fight that pro-circle mage from the tavern as a mini-boss in the torture chambers during IHS where he kills a chantry priest who wouldn't follow cory and he openly proclaims support for cory. Also, don't forget how the elven mage is mentally broken. That seems to support the brainwashing. Plus, the note from Urthemiel says that the Venatori bound the minds of the rebel mages. Seems pretty conclusive to me.

If this note exist, the mages were brainwashed.

No as a remember that the note was written by a red Templar and none of those are written by red Templars. I'll need to do a Mage and Templar play through to discover but apparently Sidon with the mages results in a note by the Venatori similar to what I posted

Ooh, so we are finally moving away from the "brainwashing"-nonsense only for the rebel-supporters to admit they'll back the rebels in any cause they wish -- even allying with an ancient Darkspawn magister to destroy the world?

Nice!  :)
