Well, in the past I won this trial with almost every possible social skill, except "perform", because I never played a bard in the past.

Now, after all these years I restarted the game to play those classes I skipped.

With my bard I am currently at the trial. She has a "perform" skill of 25, so I thought it might be ok, to go the "perform"-tree versus Torio.

What shall I say? I failed in such a miserable way, which not even happened to my fighter-types who had only "intimidate" and "taunt" at their disposal.

She "performed" her first phrase, it was a failure and Torio's first rebuttal concluded the discussion.

Now, that can't be normal. Any experiences with this?

NOTE:

To save the kind persons who answer this some work, please take note of the fact, that I really do not have any problems to win the trial in all other ways. Here it is only about "perform".

I assume your Lore and Diplomacy/Bluff must also be quite high.  25 Perform is more than enough (I think the highest bonuses for the tests require only Perform 15), so it must be something else.  Since you say you can easily win with other approaches, you must have all the clues, etc.  So it can really only be choosing a disatrous conversation choice.  More info is needed (particularly whether you're a thief or a lawman).

I was working for the city guard, am chaotic good and got "success" on all previous choices, including the opening sequence,

when even Sand says "...my, she has a temper...I'm impressed...".

As I wrote above, I never had problems to "win" with any of my previous characters, either by diplomacy, bluff, lore or intimidate and taunt.

Thus, I know, which choices to pick to get a "success". The thing with "perform" starts, when Torio calls my main as "witness",

starting with her "just one" question

"Why did you murder the people of Ember?"

Now the choices branch up to all social skills, I just picked the first for "perform" and then.... see above.

As I recall, you say something like "yes the people of Ember were terribly murdered.  Shall I sing you the mournful song I wrote about it?"

It sounds like the first option that you took is the default cut-to-the-chase option that doesn't build up your bonuses.  You might have to use bluff/diplomacy first before you get to the sing a song option.

Yes, it was that line.

So, unlike the full diplomatic / bluff / taunt - way, the perform-way has to be mixed. I didn't consider that.
