Those were the only well received games of that year.
Oh really. Let's see: Dota 2, Tomb Raider, Injustice: Gods Among Us. There were a fair number of well received games in 2013.
Those were the only well received games of that year.
Maybe because it was the only pearl among the sea of shitty games published the last year?
That really shows the divide between players and their personal tastes, now The Last of Us was a good game, but the other two you listed I didn't care for at all. BioShock: Infinite was far worse then Dragon Age: Inquisition for there was more marketing hype that was untrue and the game turned into a standard FPS with horrible mechanics by the end and well GTA just isn't my thing.
You basically said that it had no competition. I don't own or play most of the games listed, and I don't care about consoles. I just listed what appeared to be good or at least AAA game budgets, which is what you hinged your original argument on. You said basically, "It was a bad year" and "many AAA titles were delayed". The given list is not meant to be conprehensive either. I wasn't going to spend all day going through that list.
I just listed out several AAA titles, and a few very good games. I don't think I have heard one bad thing about "Divinity: Original Sin". Then there are a few at least very good titles on the list like Shadow of Mordor, Age of Wonders III, and Wasteland 2.
So the list given was basically to show you don't know what you are talking about while using the constraints given in your first post. AAA titles (good or not) and good games.
For somebody who claims I don't know what I'm talking about, you should probably have realized that me and the OP are two entirely different people =P
My first post in this thread actually said that 2014 was not all that bad in gaming, but it was pretty bad for the big mainstream AAA titles that GOTY awards tend to focus on. Wasteland 2 and Divinity: Original Sin aren't generally considered AAA titles, as good as they are.

dota 2 was hit of miss, tomb raider faded out and you got me with injustice.
Maybe because it was the only pearl among the sea of shitty games published the last year?
You saying shitty games equal me hearing talk about games that are not your taste.

Yea, I got confused because I read the post by the original poster right after yours. I meant to quote him. Either way, the point stands. The OP included AAA and good games. You say only AAA titles. Do you remember "Walking Dead: season 1" by Yelltale? It won many goty awards and was far from AAA.
Perhaps you and the OP should restrict it more like no real competition from titles starting with the letter D.

Perhaps you should re-read what I posted, and realize that at no point in this thread have I ever said Inquisition won due to no competition. Nor did I even say that no real competition focused only on AAA titles.
I said that GOTY awards tend to focus more on AAA titles. If I had wanted to say only AAA titles I would have said "only look at" and not "tend to focus on". Throwing out one example where a non AAA game won awards doesn't actually negate that point.
Inquisition wasn't my personal GOTY, so it's not like I think there was absolutely no competition.
I like everything about this post except the spelling.
Denail is not just a nail salon in Egypt.
Ouch! In my defense, I wrote it on my phone while listening to an extremely tedious presentation at work.
That's impressive ![]()
Denail is not just a nail salon in Egypt.
I usually hate puns, but I have to admit I laughed out loud at this one.

It's also one in the Bronx.

I did mention that I never intended to quote you back on page 3. Both posts looked so similar. Damn work interrupting my attempt to waste time while at work.
I only brought up Walking dead: season 1 because it was only a couple years ago, and I thought the game should have never won any GOTY awards (smash Q as fast you can!). Screw quick time events.
Screw quick time events.

For frak sake people get over it. Either you liked the game or you didn't. Your liking or disliking a game is actually independent with the quality of the game. You can like a poor quality game or dislike a good game, quality of a product is not actually dependant on your preference. Which is not to say that quality has no impact on whether or not we enjoy something but they are actually aspects that do not have to coincide.
There is a MINORITY that don't like DA:I which is normal a game can't be all things to all people. The game has gotten critical and fan praise and won awards that by any REASONABLE standard shows it is a quality product. Yet some people just can't accept that what they don't like can be viewed by anyone as enjoyable or fun. Somehow their self worth gets tied into their preferences and if anyone disagrees their self esteem suffers. Some people hate peaches don't tell me peaches are bad just because you don't like them.
By all means critic the game for the areas you think it failed but get over this idea that just because you don't like a feature its wrong and bad. Especially when said feature is widely liked.
I personally do not like Guild Wars 2, I could not tell you precisely why I can't stand playing the game and when I talk about the game's design features i more often then not say that I like how that works. The sum of the parts however don't do anything for me so I don't play the game. I don't like it but i have no need to convince my friends, for all those who have bought it love it. I simply don't like it and they do.
Its time people, get over it. You don't like the game, so what? Accept that most people seem to enjoy it. Your self worth is not actually tied to everyone agreeing with your assessment with DA:I. DA:I won GOTY its not surprising to me given the mostly positive feedback about the game. Most people have enjoy the experience.
*snip*
Clock them.
This is not a hate thread, the game is a solid 7/10 for me but I do think that Bioware got extremely lucky with DA:I
it basically won all the major GOTY awards and it had a very successful launch
The thing is though last year really sucked for gaming, Unity and Watch Dogs were huge disappointments and many AAA titles were delayed
(The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight which were supposed to come out this year to name two)
it was a very bad year and as a result DA:I was my GOTY too
So did Bioware get lucky releasing DA:I in such a bad year? Or would the reaction be the same regardless?
Two other Bioware titles which were received very well (DA:O and ME2) didn't get nearly as much awards since they were released with other very popular games
As much as I like the game in my opinion it wasn't GOTY material there were way too many flaws for that (huge lifeless areas, generic fetch quests, short story etc.)
i think so too, and there was very likely some bribing involved, because i cannot fathom as to how so many "professional" reviewers could have given it such high marks, especially considering how they skimmed over the games many very glaring and obvious flaws in their reviews.

perhaps you should take your own advice, you are tying your own personal preference into the assessment of the games success and insisting that everybody else sees/should see it. Where exactly is this supposed critical acclaim from gamers at large? almost everybody i know irl thinks its a boring snoozefest a lot of the time, people online keep repeating the same issues, etc etc. Its obviously a very polarising game. So far all we've heard are ea reps boasting about the awards and release sales, and being very evasive about the latter. Im not saying its a terrible game, just poorly designed in many areas.
Got to love this line of thinking: "They don't agree with me, so they were paid off." More likely, they played on platforms that had few technical issues.
this is actually the first time ive suggested something like this, so no, it has nothing to do with that. The game has very glaring issues, none of which are mentioned in the reviews.

If you look anywhere beyond this forum, and the hive of scum and villainy that is Metacritic, the game has been received fairly well. Even YouTube comment sections are pretty positive.
i see the same stuff being posted on the gamespot comment sections, but let me guess they are also the scum and villainy of the internet? actually very recently there were about 4 articles on there related to DAI and BW, which are full of comments mentioning the same things. My own friends and family apparently are also scum and villainy ![]()
