A question comes to mind. How did Warner Brothers Interactive games who published Shadows of Mordor allow themselves to be outbid by EA for GOTY awards?

Warner Brothers Interactive is owned by Time Warner. Time Warner revenue dwarfs EA by a factor of almost 9. In fact Time Warner's net income is more than EA's total revenue.

Surely Time Warner would not have one of its divisions looking shabby compared to the competition.

Here you go.

The 5 stages of grief of a DA:I hater:

  1. Denail: I am afraid there will be no more Dragon Age games because Inquisition was such a failure.  It got 0.2/10 on metacritic and no one bought it.
  2. Anger: Damn you Bioware! You lied to me! The things I saw from pre-alpha footage shot by a non-Bioware employee on their cellphone didn't end up in the final game a year later.  You are history's greatest monster !!11!!one!!!
  3. Bargaining: Ok maybe Inquisition was a financial and critical success.  But it only won eleventy billion "Game of the Year" awards because there was no competition.  If you had released a reproduction of my rose-colored recollection of Dragon Age: Origins, it would no doubt have deserved all the GOTY awards it would have won.
  4. Depression: [gentle wheeping as Taylor Swift songs play in the background]
  5. Acceptance: I have come to realize that, despite the fact that Dragon Age: Inquisition was not designed specifically to apeal to my sensibilities, it is nevertheless a good game that deserves the financial and critical success it has achieved.

What if you stop at the Anger part and never move forward, would that be considered a lost customer?

You're battling a lost cause, Scerene. They've already decided you're a crazy person, no matter how valid your points may be. The pendulum has swung the other way.

Let's look at what's happened. When the game came out people immediately started trying to tank the metacritic score....when the game had maybe been out for a few hours. Since my first run through took my 73 hours to complete I had to call into question the veracity of these metacritic scores, especially since metacritic posters have been known to tank scores out of spite. Then people on this forum started claiming the game was doing poorly despite Bioware saying differently. That argument went round and round in circles until EA started touting DA:I as Bioware's most successful launch. Thats when claims of an EA conspiracy began. Which is also when those GOTY awards started rolling in and even the gamers choice stuff showed Bioware was doing well. So, despite evidence to the contrary, posters continue to create ways to prove the game is a general failure. Thus I think you can forgive people for being a little tired of seeing the same argument dragged out of the grave, stuffed in a fresh suit and presented as something new.

Too be honest, I don't fear criticism of the game, and generally don't get involved in the feedback section when people voice their opinions on things they'd like to see improved in future games. That's fine and I genuinely believe Bioware is listening even if they do not go in the direction some people want (Torment listened to it's fans and still decided to go in a controversial direction despite the desires of it's fanbase and they have even more reason to listen than most Triple A devs). However, what we have here isn't useful feedback, it's become an argument for the sake of arguing.

Kosh: They are a dying people. We should let them pass.
Cmdr. Jeffrey Sinclair: Who, the "Fanboys" or the "Haters"
Kosh: Yes.

Over 200 game of the year award.....That includes player choice award and a dice award.....EA paid of the entire industry?

No, they got lucky because DA:I was the only high profile release that didn't kick itself in the ass

IGN being EA's lapdog is a consistent thing

This is not a hate thread, the game is a solid 7/10 for me but I do think that Bioware got extremely lucky with DA:I
it basically won all the major GOTY awards and it had a very successful launch

The thing is though last year really sucked for gaming, Unity and Watch Dogs were huge disappointments and many AAA titles were delayed
(The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight which were supposed to come out this year to name two)

it was a very bad year and as a result DA:I was my GOTY too
So did Bioware get lucky releasing DA:I in such a bad year? Or would the reaction be the same regardless?
Two other Bioware titles which were received very well (DA:O and ME2) didn't get nearly as much awards since they were released with other very popular games

As much as I like the game in my opinion it wasn't GOTY material there were way too many flaws for that (huge lifeless areas, generic fetch quests, short story etc.)

I have said this all along. 2014 WAS a slow year for gaming. Also Order 1866 and The Divsion was supposed to release in 2014.

The whole premise of this thread is ridiculous because the OP makes the assumption that the games in 2015 will be better than DA:I, even though the reason he says DA:I won GOTY was because the other big name releases last year fell short of expectations.

It also assumes that all the fans who voted it GOTY will like a game in 2015 more than that liked DA:I, which may not be the case.

You would need to wait until the games in 2015 are released and then make an argument for a game(s) that is actually better before you say this.

The Warner mail clerk sent the cheques to the wrong address?

I'm kidding.

At the end of the day BioWare can only play what's in front of them. Inquisition does a lot of the things really well. For me it's a game of extremes, some extreme high moments and extreme lows - which have been discussed enough and not much can be done about those now. See what the DLC brings.

So yeah from the 2014 releases I played, it is better than all of them, still a few titles I have to get to though,

DAI is as bad as Unity though. Bioware is just better masking it than Ubisoft and better running from their responsibilities.

I don't really see how Ubisoft ran from their responsibilities. They patched the game multiple times which improved the game immensely. I got a personal apology email from them and was informed I could purchase any Ubisoft game for free since I had perordered the season pass. Bioware's interaction with the fanbase has been non existent since the game launched. I agree DA:I did have as many problems as unity though. I'm actually pretty lucky though since I only experienced minor problems and glitches with both games. Even before the patches.

i never suggested everybody has been payed off, but to think that nobody has is ridiculously naive

I was paid off. They brought me buy selling me a copy of this amazing game they released.

Is it perfect? Nah. There are some issues that I have with the game but none of them take away from how amazing the game is. Not only my GOTY but the best game I've played in a long while.

Funny that, I distinctly remember a certain Bioware writer making a faux pas by posting something like that to the people who disliked DA2. PR nightmare, still has a bad rep over it on other forums and generally did nothing to help the DA team's name.

do we even need to claim IGN is bought off these days?

I thought that was just a general consensus

Not just IGN, I can't believe how people can still trust gaming media in general after this past year.

I meant that it's Bioware that masks and runs. Seriously Bioware should manup, at this point I dont think they deserve game of the year award. Not for game that has disapointed so many players.

I find your ideas intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

But here's the thing:
-Why would EA only payoff the industry for Dragon Age: Inquisition. Why not its other games?
-Why would well funded companies like Bungie allow themselves to be outbid for that sweet "Game of the Year" swag?

I eagerly await your cogent answers.

And even if EA was financially strong enough to outbid for every publication's GOTY against the likes of Activision and WB, why aren't they doing this every year?

Did they really get outbid by TellTale? Did Sony Online really spend its money to get Journey a GOTY?

They screwed themselves out of it by not giving early press releases of the game for review unless the press signed documents promising to positively review the game. Watch Angry Joe's top gaming controversies of 2014.

wow the butthurt level is very high with this one ("I hope they bankrupt")

And I always thought that the TW forums had a lot of Bioware hate (visit them rather often)

but this is of course a new level lol jesus

I actually like Bioware games in general more (especially ME2 and DA:O are two of my favourite games ever) but lately they have been struggling (DA2 had a good story and characters but had reused enviroments, weak gameplay, ME3 had a shitty ending and some other flaws, DA:I has a weak story and too much focus on open world and fetch quests) at least for me

TW2 is one of the best RPG's I have played (after ME2 and DA:O obviously) and I hope TW3 can beat it

and if they really keep their promises (unlike Bioware) and deliver I hope they own Bioware and Bethesda

Butthurt?

Nope only cold hard facts.

Witcher 2 gameplay was trash with a good story, point is that CD project red being the new messiah gained the privilege of having their glaring failure being completly overlooked or dismissed.

Let's talk about butthurt now which imaginific promises bioware broken ?

I have a Witcher 2 play through going at the moment. Dark mode. I'm not finding the gameplay trash. Quite enjoying it actually. Using a mouse and keyboard. Just about finished chapter 1.
Not seeing any glaring failures. Awesome game.

Apart from a pathetic skill tree system put into the game without an actual thought on how it works a combat full of clunky animation and stun lock irresponsive to commands, horrible map designe and so on no nothing bad.

But withcer 2 is a great game, it's the messiah, it's perfect, i'm a troll just for stating the oblivious .
