I play a Qunari mage - Inferno/KE heavy build.

 

1) Fereldan Frostback (Hinterlands)

Solace for ice spells

Iron Bull because romancing him

Varric because I didn't have another rogue and was doing more than just dragon killing that outing.

 

 

2) Northern Hunter (Crestwood)

Me, myself and I just because she's the easiest and, I wanted to see if a level 10 KE could solo her on nightmare. the answer is yes.

 

3) Abyssal High Dragon (Western Approach)

Dorian, chasing venatori seems his thing so, he was there.

Iron Bull because romancing

Cole because I like his banter.

 

4) Gamoran Stormrider (Exalted Plains)
Viv because was also doing her personal quest

Cassandra, same reason

Varric because I need a rogue along for locked doors.

 

5) Greater Mistral (Emerald Graves)

Iron Bull

Blackwall

Cole

 

6) Vinsomer (Storm Coast)

Blackwall

Cassandra

Varric

 

7) Sandy Howler (Hissing Wastes)
Iron Bull

Varric

Cole

 

8) Hivernal, 9) Kaltenzahn, 10) Highland Ravager

Generally just who I like in each area, I nab the dragons when I get to them. Only the Ferelden Frostback takes me any team planning, and that's because I like to take her on at about level 6 or 7.

 

The rest, no big deal, just another dragon I need to get the mats off of.

 

Then there was my KE solo run, never took another along at all once I got to Haven - no choice before that. So yes it can be done, just miss all the locked doors and walls that need bashed, and Varrics personal quest since those need non mages to handle. I do wish a KE could do it all, freeze and shatter locks, bash things since, well you have a sword of sort and, some inkling of warrior tactics.

Cassandra, Solas and Varric... Varric always seems to be the last to fall if something goes wrong while Solas is usually the first to die followed by PC then Cassandra.

I've killed all of them with Solas, Vivienne & Dorian. My rogue Trevelyan either got in the way or laid around dead

Whenever I use IB I use him as a dual-wield, because otherwise he dies on me.

 

I don't use Solas because he has no idea not to stand right in front of the dragon's mouth.

I used iron bull on a few dragons on my first PT and always found it hard. Until I learned to take him just once for the approval and then use cass or Blackwall for the guard. As for the rest, it's usually based on the elemental weakness of the dragon

Depending on my level. In general I mostly used

 

Mage Inquistitor

Cassandra

Varric

Solas

 

as they seem to be best integrated in the story. Experimented a little bit later on and spend some time with BlackWall, Iron Bull and Sera. Once I had realized how powerful a tempest rogue is, I kept Sera in my party and let her to the dragon slaying in seconds.

Team doesn't doesn't matter. Every Dragon Battle is the same, me holding down my 1 key until the dragon dies while the rest of my party is lying dead on the floor.
