Because the only big games that were good and well liked were the movie tie in games of shadow of mordor and alien, and then this inquisition game coming from a developer that according to many unsatisfied gamers was on their last chance to prove they're still a good developer.
Hilarious year for the big game industry

I'm not sure what's so funny. Was there a game you truly thought was really good, that wasn't well received, while the movie based ones that were, were actually crap?

I have this strange feeling we're going for another video game crash. Especially PC gaming.
There are very few big AAA games developed with PC in mind, most of them are console ports and many of them are very bad one.
Then there is Steam, pumping out unbelievable amount of garbage through its early access and greenlight program.
Last year was a bad one indeed. One of the best selling series of all time, and iconic PC game - The Sims - got butchered so much that it is struggling heavily right now.
No matter how ridiculous it may sound game industry need another crash. I am sitting here waiting for it to happen. It will be for the better.

If this is just a general rant on the state of the games industry...shouldn't it be moved to the Off Topic section?

I don't see how any of this is Microsofts problem... they're doing well regardless of how much crap is shovelled on to steam... and the steam active user count is growing by hundreds of thousands each year. last Ichecked AMD and Nvidia are in partnership to manufacture systems like steambox, PS4, alienware and xbox, so I guess they aren't exactly worried about going out of business...
You're taking it all a bit personally I think... I'm quite happy with my 200+ game collection on PC.

Good joke.
Not a joke. I am strictly PC gamer, but not blind. PC is getting smashed by consoles and mobile gaming, especially when it comes to sales. There is no argue about that. If you read some industry infos you will find that most PC gaming revenue comes from MMOs, micro transactions and facebook-like games.

Neither do I. Btw, did I mention anything about Microsoft ?

How does AMD and Nvidia developing parts for console like platforms link to my post about PC gaming ?

All of gaming is going to resemble this some day, probably because an industry exec saw how dope dealers do business. give the customer their first try for free, and then extort them through the nose when they're hooked. I think half the people playing Valve multiplayer games are only staying in the game because the random item drops keep on feeding their gambling addiction.
PC gaming was never the biggest, and only started getting closer once the facebook developers, MMO developers and vavle started drugging their customers. Well, now console devs are imitating their ways.

Wasn't the biggest but was never neglected so much as it is now. Basically what we are getting are scraps from the consoles table with "take it or leave" mentality from the devs. but generally I agree with you here.
I just hope for some miracle that will bring PC gaming back on its tracks. Fool's hope probably but still...
Btw, interesting how fast this thread got mobbed, isn't it? People will get out of their ways to get the thread locked instead of ignoring it.
I wonder if those site rules are going to be executed
- Spam: Do not post communication lacking in meaningful content or posts that do not contribute directly to the conversation. People who spam post links to non-BioWare products, or repetitive information also fall into this category.
- Images: Posting single images or animated .gifs instead of engaging in discussion is not allowed. Images will be deleted and users may be banned for repeated offenses. Please note that using images to support your discussion is fine, as long as the images follow the forum rules (no adult content, defamation, racism, etc.).

PC gaming is getting back on track. Digital distribution is giving us lower budget games made by smaller teams, just like during the golden age of PC gaming (the 80s and 90s).

These bloated $100 million games were never a good idea.

I agree with you completely, and as a person who started gaming near the end of the DOS (disk operating system) era of PC gaming I'm very glad to see a provider like GOG to be welcomed by so many gamers. They've done all the retro fans a huge favor by doing all the grunt work for us, and the oldest retro games required massive mounts of grunt work just to function properly.

Something to remember is that unless the stat about PC sales comes straight from the developer of the game, the stat is flawed because it's not including digital sales.

So the problem with PC games is too many games and not enough of them are blockbusters?
