Suggestions for Trimming Back on Fetch Quests

I think what made the "fetch" quests so tiresome was that it was combined, IMO, with a ridiculously time-consuming harvesting system that there is really no way to completely avoid at higher difficulty levels.  I mean, even if I war table the collection of Elf Root, I get like six back at a time (good job there, troops!).  As a result so much of the game play can turn to monotony, pick a plant, mine ore, deliver a note, pick a plant...

 

After my first playthrough, I have managed to strike a happier balance (never collect shards, only do fetch quests to locations where I'm going anyway, cap play at "hard" so you don't need to do so much crafting, etc.), but the result is that they spent a lot of time building a 100 hour game, which from my perspective, has about 40-50 hours of good content (or would have if I could get banter consistently).  Now, that's still a fair amount of content and I'm sure some people enjoyed all 100 hours, but from my perspective, it's a lot of resources spent on things I actively avoid in the game.
