Forgive me if this is common knowledge already, but Inquisition is the first Dragon Age game I've played, and even after some googling I was unable to find answers about the source of the name 'Eldritch', which appears as the name for the mage cross-class combo detonator abilities in the game.

I am wondering what the significance of Eldritch is in the DA universe? Is Eldritch a name that refers to someone or something within Thedas or is it used as a nod or inside-jokey reference to another game franchise? Or is it both? I know there are several little nods to Disney films (in some of Cole's dialogue), other game characters etc. peppered throughout DA:I, so I was wondering about 'Eldritch'.

EDIT: Looks like if anything it's most likely a nod to H.P. Lovecraft. Never mind. I've never read Lovecraft, so it went way over my head. Still, I would like to know about the word's usage in any other capacity if anyone has any thoughts.

It may be simply using is as the regular, established word, to make it sound slightly more fancy than the "magical detonator" that it is.
