Why did Dragon Age have such a successful launch this time around? It was because it appealed to a boarder playerbase. Some may not like multiplayer but it is a big selling point for games and it adds longevity to a title as well.

1)People are influenced by their friends.

2)Cooperative play encourages actual communication with friends. If you're playing a game cooperatively with your friends and talking about the new content whether it be MP or SP related that essentially drives people to purchase it.

It'll add longevity until EA decides to shut the servers down.  Then it's just a waste of code.  Not like, say the BG multiplayer, which can be used to this very day, over a decade later.

And I don't know about anyone else, but I think SP encourages communication to.  "What did you do about X situation?  Who did you romamnce?  I love Y character.  What ending dd you get?"

I play TOR once in awhile.  I play it as single player and it works pretty good.   If the game requires you to play with others, family, friends, strangers, doesn't matter I won't get it.  :(   I don't play well with others.

If ME4 has something set up like TOR I may try it.  If it's set up so I have to be ick social, I'll skip it.  If I want to be social I'll come to the boards.  When I play a video game, I want to ignore everything around me, including my love ones.  :)

If they do both, like ME3 (after it was fixed) and Neverwinter Nights, as long as the two are not entwined I'll check it out.

I would buy ME4 MP only. I have played over 8000 mp games. Sp under 40 hours, mp 2785 hours so far and more every week

I wont stop untill EA closes the servers, too many good friends still playing

OP, have you tried ME3MP?

When ME3 was released I didn't care about the MP at all and I spent the first month or so only playing SP. When I discovered MP, however, I quickly became addicted  :) and it really saved my ME3 experience (despite the terrible ending). I bought all SP DLCs just to support the devs, but I haven't ever played most of them, because I was fully entertained with MP.

Summing up, I played SP for less than 100 hours and MP for over 1,100  Best game investment ever! I still play it from time to time, and it is still lots of fun. Too bad Bioware failed really hard on DAMP, but I hope they recover on ME4.

At its core DA multiplayer is on shaky ground because the gameplay isn't very good and in that series it never has been. Coupled with the instability and the terrible loot mechanics, yeah, it isn't very fun.

For its other faults ME3 nailed the gameplay.

wow thats some deep stuff man

Good for you I guess lol

though its pretty silly to compare your SP playtime with MP

of course MP is going to have a lot more hours since its not restricted (through story and characters)

its just random shooting so even if you enjoyed the ending (and in general the SP) it wouldn't really matter (numbers wouldn't change that much)

So I'm not sure what you are trying to prove comparing those two..

And its also strange that you wouldn't buy a MP only Mass Effect game seeing as MP saved the ME Universe for you

MP has the potential to have more hours because it is endless, but it's not a given. For example, I've spent 160+ hours playing the DAI SP campaign and ~30 hours in DAMP. I'm pretty much done with DAMP as I find it clunky, repetitive and glitchy. It just feels unrewarding.

The SP campaign built the lore that the MP is based on. Without that, there isn't as much incentive to play MP. For example, I'm not interested in Destiny or Warframe because I don't have an attachment to those universes. The next ME SP game will build on the lore of the MEU, which is something I very much look forward to. MP is for shooting people in the face.
