I'm not a designer, but surely it wouldn't be too hard to just let us have a radial menu like the first two games! It should have been a higher priority - that is, higher than nothing.

I'm not one either. I just figure that if you change one thing about the system you have to change many. Like tugging at a thread. I think things often are deceptively simple.

But I truly don't know. Given my ignorance, I like to err on the side of caution and not get my hopes up. I could always be wrong of course, but keeping my expectations in check has always lead to my happiness.  :P

Any word on whether one of the new schematics will be the first qunari race specific gear? You'd think it would be included in the vanilla game given every other race has at least one.

I'll be happy when I can give my current Inquisitor a nose job (well, it's not like her nose is horrible - it could be a bit more refined, though :P ).

It's probably not so much that it's hard-- though it would tend to make combat balance even worse than it already is -- it's that it isn't a "fix." The eight-active-ability limit was a deliberate design decision, not an oversight. Bio historically hasn't gone in for redesigning stuff in patches.

That's a really odd glitch, especially since it doesn't seem to be hitting very many people. It's not like a wacky hardware configuration would cause this kind of thing.

So far my rig has played every single game I've thrown at it and played it well. A 3.8ghz quad core with 14 gigs of ram that can play Far Cry 3 and 4 on ultra with nary a stutter or crash. The other DA's with fifty mods each.  The Medal of Honor's?  Easy. The Dead Spaces? Cool. The Battlefields? You kiddin' me?  Any of the Crisis'? No sweat. The new Wolfenstein? Like butta. All maxed out.

DA:I? Crashy-crashy, glitchy-itchy, demandy-andy little b!tchy-witchy.

I'm starting to suspect that elf lady at the Crossroads. She looks at me funny. Thinking through a few aborted playthroughs, that glitch seemed to appear after interacting with her. She'd be there and her list wouldn't and vice-versa, or she'd be there and unclickable or her list wouldn't be clickable. This time around a few requisitions fired off correctly - a couple had to be turned in twice, but they did fire. It is, however, at this point that things went awry every other time.  I haven't managed too far yet, simply because the endless running and pointless fetching wears me down. I will honestly take limited meaningful content over grindy-time-wasting filler any damn day of the week.  It's like anticipating an ice cream and getting mostly cone - and not that yummy waffle kind neither.

:) so good to see people happy about this, although I do wonder what will happen when half the people go right back to cursing bioWare if (and I do mean if so that'd be a maybe or a possibility) this doesn't work out. (I have high hope it'll work out). I'd be nice to have storage and not have to drop sell stuff that I wanted to hold onto. Also now I can change my character's looks! oh the joy as my character never looked exactly the same when I finished with character creation. hope it releases soon but i'm cool with waiting till they work out the kinks. motto: In BioWare we trust! lol

Only important thing in this patch is this: We’re also including the option to adjust the size of subtitles. This is finally one majority thing needed for old gen consoles, to be able to actually read texts in the game. Nice that they included one line in middle of info about it and none even talks about it. Everyone is just more intrested in extra stuff that aren't needed but are wanted.

Hopefully these PC players who beta test the patch won't diminish option to adjust the size of subtitles cause I have heard that PC players don't have any problem with it unlike console and especially old gen players who can't read texts. Especially bad it is for deaf players who pretty much can't play until this option is implemented. So hopefully Bioware still releases that even though PC players might not need it, otherwise Patch 5 is going to be just another PC patch like patches 2-4.

At this point this isn't a matter of design, it's a matter of functionality and making it work with the rest of the game, really. You'd be surprised just how much work could potentially go into something that "seems easy".

On a slightly related note (but not directed at anyone here), I hate when clients go "oh but you'll fix that right away, it shouldn't be too hard am I right?". Yeah, sure, if it's that easy why don't you fix it?

Yeah, but if the FB engine was a little more moddable, a few people would be lining up to fix things themselves.

Perhaps BioWare could lend out the tools to some modders. And I'm certain those tools won't appear on a Torrent site 5 minutes later, perhaps not even 5 seconds later.

My impression was that the whole issue of modding and modding tools aren't just up to Bioware?

Yeah, I was kidding about the handing them over thing. Not happening.

If it was possible though, people would be willing to jump in as has happened with moddable games.

Subtitles are fine and dandy but what I'm really hoping for is the ability to change the size of the (PC) UI.

I'm worried that Bioware won't keep them in patch if betatesters who are all PC players says they don't need them cause they aren't fine in consoles, they aren't even readable sometimes.

Super pleased about the content of this patch. Not only fixes but also actual content for the game  :D

I also like the idea of having Beta testers for a patch this big, that way there shouldn't be too many issues with it post release.

While I understand why Sony & Microsoft have a certification process for patches and DLC, it seems that it makes it impossible for developers to run similar betas for their console patches, it also probably acts as a disincentive to patch smaller issues in games, that might get patches on PC.

I game on both PC and Consoles and the ready availability of patches is a big gap between the two experiences.

Any way can't wait for this patch to be released!

They've still got there own in-house test team who would be testing each build on all systems. It's up to those testers to point on issues the older systems are having. One would hope mentioning the issues on the forum and this thread would help too. Or contact EA tech support so they can pass things up the chain.

This whole initiative is a way of getting more feedback in general, and I guess some of the enhancements are PC specific, so the more feedback they get in those areas, the better.

I don't believe the beta-testers will be a bunch of asshats with only PC in mind.

Because of Console certification and the relative ease of issuing a PC patch, the PC testers are testing it for us all and I'm sure BioWare are conscious of that too.

I think the case for variable subtitles on console, particularly on last gen. has been well made.

Hence it was listed in the Black Emporium announcement notes, I have no doubt it will happen.  :)

Does it matter as long as the ice cream is as big as it always is? If you don't like the cone just don't eat it. When going out for a meal that you are paying for it isn't really bad manners to leave something you don't enjoy.

I hope you are right. It'd suck that finally when they are talking about patching one of major problems in old gen they wouldn't do it just cause betatesters don't need it ^^;

I think you've kinda missed the point I was trying to make, Frank.  The glitch I'm experiencing breaks my game for me. The game refuses to update any mining/harvesting/logging/quarries, so I can't progress and it breaks the game early.  Using your metaphor, if i were to just leave it, I couldn't play at all, because the only way around it - to use your metaphor again - would be to slather ketchup all over everything and eat it anyway.  Basically, to finish the game in the past I had to use a trainer and cheat, which kinda defeats the purpose of an RPG.
